Lots of people seem to be PM'ing, or e-mailing me about bad gas mileage so I'll just tell you what you should do in this one post. Bad gas mileage? 1. Pull Codes - http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.html If no codes come up than continue, if codes do pop up, replace.adjust the parts as requested 2. When was the last tune up done? If it was over 6 months ago, might be time to do it again (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, oil change, and fuel filter) 3. FPR The FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) is over 20 years old on some of these cars, and more likely than not has blown its diaphram, meaning it has to be replaced (to test, pull the vacuum line off and if there is fuel in it, replace) 4. Bad/clogged injectors The only true way to check the injectors is to have them tesed at a shop, which will cost you a few hundred dollars, so don't do this step unless your sure 5. Bad MAP/BAP These will more than likely throw a code if they go bad, so replace if they throw a code 6. Bad MAF These again will throw a code, replace or clean with a stock unit. 7. ECT (engine coolant temp sesnor) These will throw a code sometimes, but most of the time they will not when cold. 8. o2 sesnor Tell the computer your a/f ratio at hwy speeds, so replace if your fuel mileage is down on the hwy or if a code is thrown 9. Thermostat This will keep your engine way/warm it up faster. 180* is stock, but I recomend 190* because you'll get more heat in winter. 10. Breaks dragging This will cause your wheels to drag, causeing bad fuel mileage. To check lift your car off the ground, put car in nutral and turn the tires by hand. They should spin with some effort, but still sprin. 11. Under inflated tires Under inflated tires don't spin as easy as properly inflated ones. Causeing less fuel mileage 12. Vacuum leaks Car should pull 18+ inch pounds of vacuum at idle, if its pulling less you have a leak some where or your timing is off. 13. Timing Your cars stock timing should be 10* with the spout unpluged 14. Proper Engine oil 10W-30 for summer, 5W-30 for summer 15. Speed The faster you go, the more fuel you use Add more if you can think of them please
