Why should the Camaro be worried? If the new LS3 goes into the Camaro then you'll have a 435hp engine vs a 400-425hp 5.0. Sounds like a good match up if you ask me.

There's alot of if in this topic right now. "If" the new mustang engine is the 5.0 with 400 - 425 hp and "if" the new 435 hp ls3 goes into the camaro, then you would have the Camaro with 20 hp advantage, but the Mustang coming in a few grand less in price and 200-300 lbs less weight.
that might even make the Mustang a tad quicker with the horspower to weight adavntage, "if".
That's alot of "if", but how it would work.
If.
I think they will both be great and I'm liking the new Challenger as well. I'm not liking all the dealer markups that everything will have, but supply and demand.
I dunno, the closest we had to a camaro over the last few years, was the GTO. The first models with the ls1, 350 hp, were the same speed as the Mustang GT, becasue of weight differences. They came in 10k more in price though. The ls2 models were slighty faster, still burdened bu the weight and irs. Also coming in easily at 10k more.
The only time where it was worth the money in performance, unfortunately for the goat, was when the last models were being sold at slashed prices, anywhere from 25k to 21k, becasue they would not sell. About four or five months ago, I saw a 2006 still sitting on the lot with $22,000 on the windshield, brand new.
They were well built machines, just not that attractive.
"If" the new camaro gets the ls3, with 435+ hp, it might justify the performance for the price, as they look better than the last GTO anyways.
Well if GM was smart then they would just try to come close to what the Mustang has in sales rather than beat it. Just getting the car back on the road seems to be more than enough of a problem. Get the damn thing on the street!!

I agree LT1Runner. It shouldn't matter to GM at this point if it can beat the Mustang by .5 seconds, they should want it to stay competitive in sales. If you have money, you can make whatever faster, they just need to be sold first!
Maybe GM will see the light, although the stupid e.p.a. is making them rethink their rear wheel drive standpoint, which unfortunately added more cost to the Camaro platform.

Regardless of which car is faster, lighter, ect. it is still damn good to know that after all these years the american muscle car is still alive and well. And while I must admit I'm not a huge fan of the Camaro's looks (past or present) I'm glad that Chevy brought it back. Especially now that imports are all the rage.
