View Full Version : Short throw shifter?
zippo2341 02-08-2008, 10:01 PM Im a newb and have a few questions, joined this forum because the people seem to know their stuff, and dont answer with attitude lol. i been thinking about getting a short throw in my 95 gt. does anyone have an opinion on the steeda triax? what im looking for is somethin that will still allow me to use the stock shifter boot, with no mods to the console, as well as have comfortabliltiy for everyday driving. does anyone have an opinion on what is best? thanks for any replies jay
mjr46 02-08-2008, 10:14 PM If you don't want to do any mods to the boot...it'll be hard not to cause most of the shifters at the base have bolt stops which are a little bulky and cause you to have to slice the boot a little......but hurst makes a decent one too:D
CantStopTheFox... 02-08-2008, 10:32 PM Not too sure about the '95, but I have the:
MGW!!!!
It required no mods to my boot at all.......and it is QUALITY!
I never miss 3rd!!
BLK89GT 02-08-2008, 10:36 PM pro 50 i like it
gtpcoupe 02-08-2008, 10:41 PM how do you tell if your car has a short throw? just bought a car that seems the throws are pretty short, the shifter nob is carbon fiber so i assume he was messing with the shifter.
90mustangkid 02-08-2008, 10:41 PM i have the pro 5.0 like blk89gt andno mods done.. very nice shift.. u can switch out the spring on each sode of the shifter to get an easy or hard push left and right when u shift.. very nice shifter.. and i didnt have to mod anything
93_five_oh 02-09-2008, 05:40 AM I have an MGW and love it! I also like that the handle is adjustable.
you'll know it's stock if you take the shift boot cover off... anybody can put a new knob on.
PRO50SC 02-09-2008, 06:26 AM MGW or Hurst, leave the rest at the store!!;) No others compare!!
xxxmustangtxhc 02-09-2008, 07:07 AM i had a tri ax on my t-5 i loved it, and now have a hurst in my tko feels just as good as my tri-ax, so either one is a good choice in my opinon
mantis118 02-09-2008, 07:26 AM I have a pro50 and love it.
jman511115 02-09-2008, 09:28 AM I've got the MGW on my 3650 and it's awesome.
Novipowered5.0 02-09-2008, 10:27 AM MGW....nuff said. :)
LTnone 02-09-2008, 10:59 AM Don't discredit the rest of the Tri-Axes, but I haven't had such a great experience. I bought mine used with less than 200 miles on it, put it in and I can't even tell it's a short throw. Steeda has been none to cooperative in helping me diagnose the problem I'd go with MGW.
AdderMk2 02-09-2008, 11:11 AM I have a B&M ripper and freakin love it... throws are so smooth and quick.... very very nice piece
the only down side is that since the shifter arm itself is one piece... its not adjustable
93_five_oh 02-09-2008, 01:14 PM adder have you tried a mgw?
if so how to the two compare, besides that the mgw is adjustable... any difference in the length of the throw?
zippo2341 02-09-2008, 05:04 PM thanks guys i appriciate all the feedback
92GreyGT 02-09-2008, 06:31 PM I have driven a few cars and they have had a few different shifters. I have a Steeda in my personal car and it's my favorite. I have used both kinds of Hurst shifters, the Competetion Plus and Billet Plus. The Billet Plus is not bad but the Comp plus is very notchy and I didn't like it. The B&M Ripper is ok but the Pro Ripper by B&M is much better. If you are into drag racing you just can't beat the Pro 5.0, it's the most direct shifter but not as comfortable as the Steeda.
benz5800 02-09-2008, 06:45 PM gotta go with the MGW i have one and i can bang it all day without a problem
AdderMk2 02-09-2008, 09:02 PM I have not tried an MGW. I have heard a few complaints about people missing 3rd gear with them. Perhaps I'll try one when I get my T56 installed!
stang8689 02-09-2008, 09:26 PM MGW

86whitepony 02-10-2008, 09:58 PM B&M pro ripper is badazz, makes me NEVER miss a gear, way better than that stock slop of a shifter
