Does anyone know how long the manual transmissions currently used with the 4.0 has been manufactured.  A salesman today told me 30 years.  Knowing this tranny design versus older ones, I really doubt it.

Thanks

About 25-30 years is right. I think this is the 5-speed used on the old (starting 1983?)Fox body Mustang GT. NOTE: Our 7.5 rear was also used by the Mustang GT till 1985.

Thanks.  I did some research and the basic T-5 has been around since 1981.  It has been used in various makes and models over the years.

I wanted to ask about mine. It feels rough in 3rd gear almost like a bearing is bad. Is that normal?

T-5 and smooth are not synonymous.  Nor quiet.  Sounds like a bingo ball dispenser sometimes.

While my 5 Speed has been noisy... She has developed this annoying habbit of "fading" out of 5th gear. It just seems to happen randomly after running for around 40 minutes at 80mph. She just slides on out of 5th. Zzzip.... neutral. Slide back in and keep on rolling for another 30-40 minutes. Dealer tell me that they can't find anything wrong with her. After they drive it around town for 15 minutes. Anybody have similar troubles? My 36month expires in 3 months.

Sal
