people just don't understand how fast cars can go and how easy it is to lose control. I'm just glad I didn't die the one time I wanted to see what my car would really do on the open road.
and what is the deal with John Travolta's house??? how is that information important here?
thanks red, im kinda surprised we agree on something
harsen, wtf man? got what he deserved? u honestly think someone deserves to die for that? to run it on a closed strip says nothing of his level of respect, thats somewhat of a leap there. alot of us with fast cars drive them fast. i bought my own car and respect it very much. doesnt stop me from romping on it from time to time, thats why i bought it

but with 4 other people in the car, and he obviously didnt know the place too well seeing as he went off the end
with that being said I work hard for what I own.... and if his parents want to buy him a 100K+ car fine... not his fault, but to take a car that was given to you and not respect it for what it is and be a dumbass little teenager... he got what he deserved, it's a sad occurance don't get me wrong, but sad for the fact todays youth is nothing but a bunch of pansies that get served on a silver platter and then expect more
I guess you guys also missed the news about how he's had 2-3 tickets within 6 months that year
just because you have a soft spot for people that had life by the balls and decided to piss it all away with major stupidity doesn't mean everyone else is entitled to that opinion
I fully agree.
However, I also agree with the idea that the at least one of the other people in the car was probably telling him to slow the fcuk down. This is why I don't get into my friends cars if I do not trust them as a driver.
and yes, I loled at the john travolta's house thing

Somethings telling me someone told him to chill the **** out. or were they like "go go go go" the truth is we will never know. We all know what happens when we Assume.

you guys should know that the car was his, several news broadcasts say it was his but it's in his fathers name... he also owned a 2008 535i and another 2008 letterbox bimmer.. all payed for by his parents... he lives in a housing unit with it's own airstrip, is it that hard to figure out

Like red said how many times have we done this ourselfs. I know I did it when I got my GT. The kid just wasnt as lucky as we were.
I did 150 in my stang... by myself, on an empty road
that is the gamble you have to take... but being smart I took it on my own accord
every one of my top speed runs have been with a car I have bought myself and with only me in the car and on a vacant road..... these kids have the vacant road thing down, but after that they are idiots, just 5 spoiled brats thinking they cannot be hurt, and to other people saying the passengers were talling him to slow down... my friend owns an M6 and he was doing 80 and it felt like he was doing 20.... I doubt the passengers even felt the speed to even worry. 150 in our stangs feels nothing like 150 in an M class, the suspension setup with the low torque makes for a very smooth acceleration, at 150 I bet that M5 felt like it was doing 60-75MPH

i've done 130 or 140 in the new stang on a 2 lane road once, but i KNEW the road. i've done over 140 in my II once, but i KNEW the road.
you dont go that f*cking fast when you dont know what is coming in front of you. plain and simple. plus you know these were popped collar fagboys who thought they were cool in daddys car, with everyone inside going "yeah dog, f*ckin right.... wooooo!" right until they saw they were screwed

Good point actually, I forgot about my ride in an S500, doing 70 in that thing really felt like 30.
I can somewhat agree with that. Doing 100 in my stang compared to my girls 06 Sonota Is waaaay different. I can assure you someone had their eyes on that dudes speedomiter. either way man the kids are dead be respectful. the reponses we are getting on here are crazy its complete douche bagery. I know I dont live next to any vacant roads with private air strips and crap. So if anybody can find a truely vacant road then more props to you. Your obviously were a little smarter than these kids so since you are I think you have every right to take shots at them for their own demise.

another thing that baffles me is why the kid felt the need to brake and turn very sharply unless he was trying to do a powerslide.... the M5 has world class 4 disk ventilated sport tuned 14.7 inch brakes and the most complex traction control and suspension out there... the car could have stopped just fine, even if he hit the grass it would have just been a bumpy ride for a while untill the car came to a halt..... at 150MPH you can see something coming at you, espessially the end of a runway, turning sharply and braking doesn't improve your braking capacity, the only time you turn while applying the brakes is to avoid something in front of you... otherwise just stomping the brakes will perform ALOT better for you, and being on a runway I highly doubt bigfoot popped out of the cement and scared him to the point of veering off to the side while slamming on the brakes
IMO the kid was trying to show off at the end of his run and flipped the car as a result
maybe that's why I'm a little cold hearted, but as you said... we will never know

and you can't know the things you are saying either... you have your opinion and I have mine
but I by no means think it's a joke... it was a really nice car, it's a shame it got destroyed
but do me a favor and think about it.... it's a runway, you know when it ends, and can see VERY clearly when it does regardless of speed, therefore you would know when to safely come to a halt
why was there a need to swerve and apply the brakes at the last minute on a runway?

at 140 mph, i'd imagine any reaction would be too late, except for nailing the brakes...but wtf, this was a half mile airstrip right? can that car stock reach that speed in that short distance?

V-6 is for real drivers. Go buy a Jetta if you want gas mileage and a chicks car. Buy a V-8 Mustang if you have no driving ability and need the extra horsepower to compensate and feel like you''''''''re fast.

1.5 mile airstrip... and yes at 150MPH any reaction would be too late.... on a split second
does nobody else grasp the fact this is a runway?
that would be like me going 130MPH down a 1 mile tunnel and a big hot pink brick wall with strobe lights attached to it was sitting at the end of the tunnel, and then theres me looking right at it the whole way down and then when I get 10 feet from the end go "OH CRAP A PINK WALL! I DIDDN'T SEE IT THERE!!"
it just doesn't add up

i said we shouldnt say these kids deserve it, that alot of us (which u confirmed) do the same thing, and that the passengers were other people from that forum who also owned m5's, there was a thread linked. my info seems much less speculative.
as for the swerve, allow me to speculate the same way u did, maybe a small animal like a rabbit, squirrel, deer, or alligator (they were in florida of course) came across the runway?
or maybe he braked too hard? i dont care what the car is, there are ways to defeat its safety features. I dont know. either way, i dont think the kid deserved it, i dont think we should spit on his grave or his parents, i think the kid did make a mistake, but i think its a mistake that is much easier to make than you people give him credit for. especially if the car feels like its going much slower, a side effect of bmw. this is why when i have kids i will buy them cars, because my dad got me my first one, a 98 corolla, and like that, their first cars will be bad handling and underpowered so they know what real limitations are. I agree completely that kid shouldnt have had the car, it pisses me off when i see that, there is a freshman here at my school with an m6 and he tools around in that thing everywhere he goes showing off.
but 5 people died, so although my irritation stems from a mixture of logic and jealousy (which come on, nobody here can say that jealousy has nothing to do with ur feelings when we are talking about these cars... or u can.... but ud be lying) those feelings are pretty damn petty when the results are taken into consideration

yeah, it should be plenty open with nothing obstructing the view of what's ahead. what may also have happened was they were going a little faster than 140 mph, then they realized it was time to slow down when it was way too late, and somehow the driver nailed the brakes instead of easing on them then pushing down further on the brake pedal, which may have resulted in loss of control.

that's true... but you have to admit, my theory shouldn't be discredited at all
everyones entitled to an opinion and I'm not saying yours is wrong... but that is just mine
also keep into affect runways are fenced in... every one of them have to be in the US, it's a saftey regulation just for what you described

You are also giving the kid too much credit there. He was 18. He posted a goddamn thread asking why his car shifted so "hard" when upshifting in the harshest modes the car has. He was not ready to handle speeds like that, or knew what to do in a situation like that.
