I have an appointment to get my windows tinted in 3 weeks(13%, I like them dark.).  The place is very professional and we've had a lot of vehicles tinted there without any problems, and they are always willing to replace tint if it messes up.  Here's my question, do any of you have your windows tinted without using moleskin/felt on the seal?  Seems like everybody uses it, and I wanted to as well, but the manager assured me that they've had no problems with the tint they use and nobody has came back yet because of it, and promised that it wouldn't scratch at all.

I think it has to do with something specific to the Mustang that causes scratching. I asked my tint place to put moleskin on because of that and they did.

well, if you want to take the chance that it might scratch go ahead and do it if they promise it wont scratch but, i'd play it safe and either install moleskin yourself or ask them to do it

I completely agree with you guys, I think it's much better to be safe than sorry.  But the tinting place said that they haven't had a single problem at all out of them, almost made it sound like it's the quality of the tint that matters.  I'm still pretty skeptical, I'm in college and don't want to waste my money on something that's going to look like garbage in a week.

I would tell them to just do it. It doesn't hurt.

Thanks everyone, seems like I need to get the moleskin.  I just wish that the tinting place would put it on, but I don't think they will, considering the owner himself said with 100% certainty that their tint won't scratch at all.  Looks like I have myself a little project to do when I get home this weekend.

You definetly ha to get the moleskin. I've got top dollar tint on mine and I had some nasty scratches and had to get my driver's side redone because of it. If they won't put it on then go to www.tintprotector.com. They sell kits with instructions and everything. It's an easy install all you have to do is take off a couple of bolts and pull the wiper out of the track.

Just went to a local tintshop, and they wouldn't install the moleskin either. Guess I got another project to learn how to do...

I know the feeling tmsmith, I got the same thing.  They say that it's the quality of tint that matters(I'm pretty sure they use 3M), and so far they haven't had a single problem.

Place I went to uses only Llumar. They claim that it is better than 3M. Said they stopped using 3M because it was so hard to ship it to them... (?)

Well after reading about all the tint problems with scratching, I went out to check my newly acquired 2008 Mustang Premium/Pony and lo and behold, there is felt adhered to both sides of the window track.  Appears that all the concerns have made a difference and now Ford has finally listened and applied felt to where it was needed.  Has anyone else checked their 2008 for this application and has anyone had issues with tint on their '08.  Appreciate anyone's comments, as I am having tint applied next week and hope that the Ford felt is adequate.
Thanks

Yah the ford felt should be more than adequate. I doubt that after all the complaints theyve received that theyd skimp and use bad crap.

When I got my car used 05 it was tinted already and on the drivers side it has 2 slight scraches on it that run the height of the window I thought that the last owner must of put the window down to soon but I see now it must be as all have said here so I think you should do it. I have been thinking of getting mine redone but its just not that bad. You can only see them from inside and I just have not been that bothered by it.....till NOW... THANKS YOU LOL

Can anyone confirm that Ford is now including the felt in 08 models?

I too am about to get my windows tinted 35%  because I'm really not trying to have some pr**k cop slice them off and that's the legal limit in MD.  My gf bought me the thing for Valentines day, I don't know if they'll install it at the place where she got it or not.  If they don't how hard is the install, im pretty bad with working on my car...had to get a friend to install my CAI
