Default Degreeing the cam?

Y'all:

I am installing a cam and heads on my 91 5.0 vert to go with my BBK intake. The speed shop guy says that I really need to degree the cam.

Is this really neccesary?

Of course its better to but i bet most people with 5.0's don't
