So my boss is buying an auto'00ish WS6 tonight with 47K miles. Known mods include: 3000rpm stall converter, 3.40ish gears, CAI/tune, throttle body and apparently LCA's, relocation brackets, subframe connectors. Looks to be a nice car, adult driven, custom paint...I think he's getting a steal at 13,500.
He had an evo9 a few years back which became aC6...He's since sold the vette and bought an Outlander and now this LS1.
What are my chances from a dig and roll? My mods in sig.

i thought WS6's had 3.73 gears? my friend has a 01 WS6 and his manual said 3.73? why would anyone down grade to 3.40?
Post that page from the manual. All autos came with 3.23s, and all6-speeds came with 3.42s. No other gears available from the factory.
It is quite common for someone with an auto WS6 to put 3.42 gears in it, I know a coupla guys who have. They also installed torque converters and headers and ran 12.2 and 12.4, respectively.
Anyhoo, an LS1 with steeper gears and a stall (neither of whichI have BTW) will run quite deep into the 12s even without the benefit of headers.

Tommy careful with blanket statements. I dont know how much capability to research you have but a friend of mine ordered a WS6 LT1 TransAm with MN6. I cant remember which year for sure. It believe it was a 1995. The MN6 kept going on hold. Finally the plant manager got tired of him calling up their and asked him what they could do to get him to take an Auto. He got 3.42's in an Auto from the factory. It came with some BS Sticker on the Window about not for highway use. Doesnt matter as the state doesnt know one MSO from another. I have often wondered how the factory did that. Would it have been unofficial off the books or would the production records show the 3.42 Auto combo? The car would have been delivered sometime in 1995-1996 in Decatur AL?
My point is that the same thing may have happened to an LS1 Auto at some point.
