Was wondering if anyone has bought a GPS for there car. I'm looking into getting a GARMIN and was just wondering some opinions. Currently I am looking at this one:
well generally people put it in the middle of the dashboard...i put mine all the pay on the left side like near the left side mirrors...the only problem with putting it there is that the cord isnt long enough (or would get in teh way of ur steering wheel) to put in the lighter so u cant charge it....thats garmin one is really good though
no im using a pioneer portable one sorta ike yrs...but i kno this is the best one that garmin has its actaully pretty good my buddy has it...but for that price ur better off with an dual dvd and nav in dash navigation
pioneer is usually pretty good i never had a bad experience with it...they have teh new double din one which is perfect for our mustangs pioneer avic z2 thats the newest one...alpine has pretty good ones on there site as well u shoudl take a look at it....also kenwood has a few...but alpine and pioneer are basically the best...cuz if ur gona pay that much might as well pay a bit more and get a dual right..
I just don't see the point forking over another 400~ bucks for a DVD player... If I'm going to watch any DVDs, it wouldn't be in my car. Other than fitting more songs on a DVD, I don't see the point. And with an Ipod, that is sort of useless... I would be neat to have it in a convenient spot, in the dash but not for over $1000.
Love to hear what you end up doing. I'll probably just stick with the Garmin. Was doing a little research once you posted.
ya the garmin one is actually really good...its one of the best portable ones...the best one garmin has as far as i kno...i just dnt like that its not in dash....but either way it does the job right...its a good nav
theyre good systems, but i too would prefer the indash if possible. i think the garmin we got was around 500 and an indash was only a couuple more. but if you want a portable one you can take from car to car go with the garmin. thats the only thing that stopped us from going in-dash cause my dad takes long trips in his business and needs one too. but yeah. garmin is the way to go.
I had a Garmin in my last car but haven't yet added it to my Mustang. When window-shopping, I like www.crutchfield.com; you can plug in your year/make/model of car and it'll tell you what fits (ie: if you're going to upgrade your factory head unit or whatnot). Good variety, good support, occasional sale prices, but you can sometimes find the same product elsewhere for a better price. Otherwise it's a decent site to see what's out there and what will fit, across brands and features...

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 250W and won't travel without it. Like the poster above, I didn't need all the extra stuff, just needed to know how to get from state to state without getting lost. I purchased it from Costco Online.....very good deal!

djpdx, did you have the door molding put on your car or did you buy it already there? You know you can take it off without damaging the paint......it would look soooooo much better too! Many rental cars have them on.
I have this exact same GPS system...I bought it on Ebay about a month ago for around $550, so you can definitely get it for less than $700. I mount mine on the window hovering just above the dash, and I think it looks good hanging there.
I'm also really happy with the purchase. The user interface is pretty easy to use, and the GPS itself work great. I bought the more expensive Garmin unit as it had the Bluetooth and MP3 functionality that I wanted. I haven't had a chance to play around with them too much, but given that my phone is bluetooth compatible and I have a ton of MP3's, I thought it would be nice to have. I will say, though, that if you want the bluetooth, go to Garmins' website and just verify that your phone is compatibile, as just because you're phone is bluetooth compatible doesn't mean that i's compatible with the Garmin device.
I got a Nuvi a few years ago, I think it's the 350. I love it for it's portability because I travel quite a bit and when in another city or state it's great. But I don't think you should have to pay 700 bucks for a Nuvi, look around for a better price. And +1 on the DVD in the dash being useless; what does anyone need a DVD in the front seat for, I thought those were for keeping the kids quiet in the back seat.

Well I started this a long time ago, but I wanted to ask.
I am a neat freak when it comes to wiring wires, meaning I like for them to be nice and hidden. Anyone find a convenient place for them, and how did you do your wiring?
