Hi, this is my first post on this, or well, any forum. I am thinking about getting the windows tinted on the 'stang and I am unsure about all I need to be aware of before I let someone do anything to it. I have a list of about five places close to where I live and I am planning to call and ask each one about estimates, gurantees, and amount of time it will take. Do I need to ask about anything else and is there anything I need to be aware of before I do this? Thank you.

You should find a place that will give you a gaurantee but also has low prices(I got all 5 windows for $150). Also, you should find out the legal limit in your state if you plan on keeping the tint legal. Other than that, there isnt really anything you need to be worried about.

I finally found a place that will do all the windows for $139.95 and they have a life time warranty. They have been operating out of Orange Park for 16 years so hoepfully everything will be ok. Thanks. Hopefully they will know the legal limit though, I don't.

139 is a good price. I have 5% all the way around + the windshield strip (even though the pic is shatty and you can't tell) cost me 150 bucks. I got a guarantee as well. The darker you go the better it looks IMO. Just be careful, if they enforce the tint laws in your area and you go beyond the limit you will get cited. They don't enforce it here in Florida.

Yeah I had to take my tint off cuz i got pulled over and i got a written warning to take the tint off within 30 days. I just got it redone, I got 5% limo in the back and 35% in the front.... Im not sure where you live but in CA its illegal to get ANY tint in the front windows.. But It looks better if the fronts are tinted too... just my opinion...

Emann007, out of curiosity are you in NE Florida? I know they do enforce it here. My mom is a tattoo artist and had tint on her windows and then the name of her company in the top 4 inches of the window and they got her for both, also had a co-worker get pulled over for his tint. I have no idea on regulations though because I have never heard specifics.

When I went they asked if I wanted Virginia legal or darker. I went with 20 percent all around, nothing on the front, which is darker than legal. They charged me an extra 20 bucks for it not being legal and gave me a lifetime warrenty. $160 for the job, took an hour, I love it.

ps, I didn't do the front strip, I sit so high in the car I'd be look through the strip the whole time.

I paid $100 for 5% all around, later on I did my front windshield 35% for $60. I love it!

This may sound stupid but, explain the tint percentages. The higher or lower the darker or lighter sort of thing. I am obviously new to a lot when it comes to sprucing up the'stang but that is why I joined a forum. Thanks.

The number is the percent of light the tint allows through. 50% tint allows 50 percent of the light through. 5% only lets 5 percent through so it's much darker.

The less percentage the darker, the more the percentage the lighter it is, 50% is the lightest you can get and 5%-2% is the darkers a.k.a. limo tint, however not many people have the 2%, but I know a couple people who have it... and its DARK!!

Ok, thank you. Now I won't feel so dumb when I get there and they start talking about the percentage. Thanx.

i got pulled over for tint being to dark a couple weeks ago. didnt get a ticket because the cop said he didnt have his device to test it. i think he said the limit here is 35% for sides and rear windows here. told me mine was at least 5%. i know its dark enough that i gotta roll my windows down at night so i can back out of my driveway. i think he really wanted to just look at the car though. he talked to me for about 20 minutes about it.

i called a few shops around here and its gonna cost me around $150-$175 so i guess the average all over the place is around that.

HAha! I gotta do that too. Can't see crap out of the back of mine with the 5% doesn't help that the convertible has the mallest rear window ever! Almost useless. I have been pulled over at least 3 times where I ended up talking shop/parts/performance with a cop and he didn't ticket me. All those were for speeding though.

In case nobody else answered, or I missed it, the Dot matrix is on the back window and I hear alot of people saw it has to be sanded down to get a good tint job and I have even heard some tint places refuse to tint it. If you hear that from the guy who is installing your tint, move on and find someone else. It's not hard. Just have to know what you are doing. I got mine done, no problem no whining form the guy and it still looks brand new and that top goes up and down all the time.

Just had mine done yesterday. Did 15% on the back window, 35% on the quarter windows and 55% on the driver and passenger windows. A cop friend of mine said tinting is ok on the driver and passenger windows here in CA but could not remember how much. I figure I am safe with what I have done and I know enough cops that would sign off on any fixit ticket it may get.

Almost forgot, paid $180 plus tax.

yeah, you're good with that. Speaking from experience, most cops worry about the driver/passenger windows because you can't see the person when you approach the car...like mine. For anyone, it's best to roll your windows all the way down as soon as you get pulled. If it's night time, turn your interior lights on too. Unless you got something to hide

Is it harder to drive at night with the windows tinted? Like changing lanes and using your side mirrors? I have a problem with headlights as it is and should be wearing a certain type of "night sunglasses" so the bright headlights don't hurt my eyes. So I guess it may even help a bit. I am excited though because this is the first thing I am doing to the car and there is a couple of things I do want to do.
