i never said the svo was in perfect running order either did i?  my buddy has been building it, and he's in the process of getting it tuned.  I mean, it sounded like it was ok, but he was only running about 9 psi boost.  and he doesn't have 5th gear.  If he can't get it into the 15's before the end of next month, he's scrapping it, and putting a 3.8 into it.

Right there is some important info.  He's running 5 psi less than stock, I would consider that a car not in proper tune.  And without 5th gear the car isn't going to go much more than 105-110 mph or so, so your run to 120+ was pointless.  It would be like racing a new sixer Stang and bragging yours is faster because you passed him on his limiter at 115 a mile later when you finally caught up.

Your "friend" is a complete jackass if he is even considering a 3.8 in an SVO.  I will repeat, a BONE STOCK SVO will run mid 15's.  If he can't manage that he is completely retarded.

3.8's are honestly a waste of time, supercharged theyre fun. but WHY supercharge a 3.8 when a 5.0 is just as easy

No, but you didn't say it was running like a dog either. I ran a 69 Buick GS with a 455 and beat him 3 times, but his crappy quadrajet was having problems. I told everybody that it was having problems because I'm not a douche...

Here's the facts:
1996 Cougar 3.8
140hp
215 ft/lb tq
4r70w automatic
3.27:1 axle
weight 3559

1984 Mustang SVO 2.3T
175hp
210 ft/lb tq
T5 manual with 4.03 first gear
3.45:1 axle
weight 2992

Oh SNAPZZZZZZ!!!!11 your cougar has 5 whole more torque, that must be why you have total ownage on a crappy running SVO

now looking at the stats its pretty close but the svo still should have won. Some ppl may believe you are b/s'ing but i think the bottom line is this thread needs to be locked before it gets out of hand like they have before...

i wonder if a split port would be better than a supercoupe motor?  i wanna hit 300 hp, but i gotta get my GF into the states in May.

all i know, is when i put it in low, and stomp the gas, both rear tires lose it really easily..... i really think they underpowered them on the dyno sheets for insurance purpose... cause this car feels like more than 150 hp. id say around 180 and 250 torque... my mark vii had a 5.0 HO in it stock, and this car would take it no prob and the mark vii had 225 hp, 300 torque, and 3.08 posi trac. AOD automatic

loooool this is like that one kid in the OT who claimed to have a Ford GT and 2 Mustangs and he had lots of pics of it but people found out that its actually his neighbors and all he has is a 06 v6 stang. there was a 40pg pwnage thread about him in 3.8mustang.com OT section. It was funny, people made a **** load of pics of him....

now 92lx, you dont want this to happen to you? would you?

The fact is you did not beat/race an SVO and if your "friend" had one we would have heard it from you a long ass time ago along with other BS stories. You either get a video and i wanna make sure its actually you and make sure to talk so we can hear your redneck voice.

How the fluck do you get 180hp and 250tq?

SVO gets its full tq at 2500-3000 rpm. Also, it makes a little more than what everyones saying. Also, the SVO would PWN your cars ass, 500lbs is .5(maybe more) off the 1/4 mile

Doesn't matter.  At the speeds you are claiming your 10-20 advantage in torque would not make up for the horsepower difference in a race.  If the car was only running 9 psi of boost, and had no 5th gear I can see you winning.  This has been beaten to death.

This is where driving is important. If youre able to ride the clutch properly, and keep the rpm's up, load the engine to boost it, and come out of the hole, youre in peak torque, and youll never drop below your peak torque when you shift.

Beating a poorly running SVO is like fighting a kid on crutches.

lolz that is true tho... but heres the deal guys... he bought it in non running condition,  he knows little about cars, and is learning as he goes along... i've told him that it could be pushing more.  i think the wastegate actualator is messed up... but yeah we only raced to see how his car was coming along... plus i wanted to finally open mine up a little.

but i'm sure he doesn't know about riding a clutch... let alone keeping it in his power range.

well all i can say is, that i want to race a STOCK svo in good running condition.

i've already had to prove it to the 3.8 section that my car goes 0-60 in approx 7.5 secs vs the 9 seconds they run.... theres like a 10 page thread on it... but i proved it, even if they don't wanna accept it.... the video doesn't lie... its the one everyone else has seen of me driving the cougar.
