Default DOHC in 66

Before I get some "You're Crazy" responses. Realisticly, how difficult, fabrication and money wise would it be to put a DOHC motor (4.6 or 5.4) in a 66. I have to do all new body work anyways, so if replacing sheet metal can happen. What am I looking at, outrageous or possibly reasonable.

Oh heck, give me all opinions good or bad. Cause if they're all bad it will keep me from doing something stupid.

Do you have 6 grand or more to get the engine in the car and running you have to cut out the shock towers and replace the suspension the mustang 2 are a bad idea http://www.rrs-online.com/ coil overs and shock tower notching kit or http://www.griggsracing.com/index.php to keep the mustang to handle good.Why a mod motor tho i really don't like them a 429scj makes more power is the same size and no ecu or wiring to mess with.

Yeah, the mod motors are fat bastards, you'll have to cut quite a bit to get it to fit, and good luck finding headers for it. Plus the Mod motors themselves are expensive, and pieces of crap for performance. They can make power, but it costs them 3x the money to make the same power as a 5.0, and they're vastly more complicated. Pushrods are still king really, look at the GM LS engine family, such as whats in the new Corvettes and going into the new Camaros. They cost far less money, are very reliable and make more power for less money. If you want power you can build a nice 302 or 351 that will fit in your car without issue(except a 351 can be a bit snug in a 66) and make way more power for the same money than a Mod engine will.

Besides, the Modular family is on it's way out the door as it is. It can't meet the emissions standards set for 2010, so the Mods are going to get replaced by a newer engine family. Supposedly the new family is going to be called the Boss family. At least that's the word circculating around at the moment.

He is talking about the DOHC Cobra motors. If you are saying that they are crap for performance, then that is just nuts. For about $1200 you can get well over 500rwhp from these (i.e. pulley, intake, and a tune.) It WILL be a PITA to fit this motor in and VERY expensive. Like mentioned above, you WILL have to eliminate the shock towers and mustang II or AJE front suspension. If you have the money, then i say go for it!

look at http://www.dvsrestorations.com/products.html i don't like the mod motor for many reason the egr holds water they like to blow out the spark plugs the coils are pricey and blow by.I can build a 429/460 making the same power or more for mess money.The link you posted they shoe horned the 65 body over the 03/04 cobra subframe.

Yeah I know. There is a 1966 coupe that has the entire terminator drivetrain in it. I couldnt find it but I think its in Mustang Monthly. Its white and has molded in fender flares, but they look like they should be on the car, not the HUGE and gay ones that I've been seeing lately.

If you are serious, give me a pm. You have a lot of work ahead. Towers will have to go. I think a 5.4 will require some frame rail mods for the exhaust. It will require very good fabrication skills and its not for timid. Add a Supercharger or turbo, then the 500 HP barrier will easily be breached. Not to mention the fact that it will sit in traffic and mind its manners.

If you have some $$$$$,Fatman Fabrication has a front clip kit you can buy already set up for mod motors. 4.6,5.0 and the cammer. I'm considering it,I think it would be a show stopper and definatley something different that you don't see everyday. I say go for it!

open your pockets and butter your cheeks cuz is gonna be an expensive and rough ride!

If your going classic go with big block. If your going to make a 150k show stopper and have the money and time to spend, GOOD LUCK!
