758cobra 01-23-2008, 03:43 PM Hi everyone hows it going? I just got my mustang cobra 2 months ago, i have a 1996 mustang cobra with mystic paint. its number 758 out of 1990. was wondering any suggestion with liknks if possible on and intake for my car. i want to be able to here the nastiness of my car. make it loud and proud. any thoughts would be great thank you
Ehmark 01-23-2008, 05:04 PM Do you want pretty or cheap? I love my bbk but if it wasnt as pretty as it is it would have been a waste. The best one besides JLT would be a k&n filter with the air silencer removed. This way cost you about $60 my bbk was about $300.
Ehmark 01-23-2008, 05:05 PM Sorry, I forgot there is another cheap yet functional intakemsde by densocharger. Hope that helps.
758cobra 01-23-2008, 05:13 PM Where did you buy your bbk intake? does it make it sound and perform better, im not worried about forking money out, whatever sounds the best works for me. im DJ thanks for the help, if you wanna see pics of my ride go here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2989163
baino 01-23-2008, 07:07 PM I have a JLT setup on mine and I was very pleased with the performance. For a 96, they claim 16 rwhp gain. Currently I think they are sold out but I highly recommend waiting to get the cold air kit instead of the ram air from JLT. The 96 cobra site is: http://jlttruecoldair.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_7_18 Hope it helps
Noveds 01-26-2008, 04:51 AM I highly rec JLT. I didn't dyno compared to the MAC CAI I had, but JLT wins in my book. Proly only a HP or 2 anyway.
They will match your paint scheme if you wish.
758cobra 01-26-2008, 11:22 AM it would be tough for them to match the paint on my car, i have a mystic cobra bud. expensive paint. but i am going to go with the jlt cold air when i get the money to buy one. thank you all for the input
darcnytemare 01-26-2008, 07:04 PM JLT FTW....and yes they will match the pipe to your paint. I've seen them on 04 mystic chrome cobras. Just give them your paint code.
758cobra 01-26-2008, 09:46 PM thanks again
Ecstasy 01-26-2008, 10:39 PM yea, it looks nice only thing is you have to remove your strut tower brace when you install the jlt. because it wont fit.
h0micide 01-27-2008, 09:33 AM well 758cobra if you have the strut tower bracing bar and dont want to get rid of it the wms high velocity intake is the one to get!
ive got it and love it. http://www.wmsracing.com/pgi-ProductSpec?WMS-HVI

Ehmark 01-27-2008, 06:34 PM I have my strut brace with my bbk and All I had to do was grind a small part off of the brace and now it fits fine.I love my bbk it looks and sounds great but I havent tried any other intakes.Im going to try and put up a pic of the bbk. I think it looks way better but thats just me.http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w192/ehmark785/BBKINTAKE.jpg
Ehmark 01-27-2008, 06:36 PM Nice mystic BTW
SVTeeshirt 01-27-2008, 10:59 PM JLT cold air, BBK on a cobra is almost pointless, Unless you wanna pay 300$ for a shiny chrome intake, Go with JLT 4" CAI they are not that steep price wise, look SICK and actually make a diffrence in performance.
Ehmark 01-28-2008, 09:22 PM BBK looks better lol.
Ecstasy 01-28-2008, 10:57 PM well i was looking at the hpm performance strut tower braces, theirs curve towards the front bumper and up so it looks like it would clear but if anything ill get a custom one made, id rather the jlt though. thats what i have. and they will not paint match the mystic. they have the mystic-chrome paint which isnt the same paint as on the 96 mystic cobra, mystic-chrome = brighter. and the mystic paint isnt as expensive as it useto be. youll have to call them personally and give them your paint code.
Ehmark 01-29-2008, 08:02 PM Like I said I only had to trim a small part off the edge of my strut tower to put the bbk on. It only took 5 mins to trim it down and its alot cheaper than buying a new brace.
baino 01-29-2008, 08:13 PM I emailed the guys at JLT awhile back to find out if they knew of a brace that would fit my CAI. They said that they didnt know of one that would fit mine, but they told me the name of one that would fit their carbon fiber setup. Dont know the differenceand cant rememberthe name of the brace, but might be something for you to check into.
xx9gt6xx 01-29-2008, 09:39 PM Not to be a downer but no intake will give you a big increase in performance. I was really dissapointed in my JLT. I was all excited because the hype was so high on these intakes, but all I noticed was a little better throttle response, that's it. No increase in overall power or seat of the pants feel. Defiantly not worth $230... Yeah it looks good and an intake is good to have because it's one of those helper mods, but don't expect anything more than that.
When buying an intake, stay away from any metal or chrome intakes. They attract the heat way more. Any plastic/rubber style intake is optimal. I do admit my JLT keeps cool all the time because of the PVC material it's made of. Good luck...
758cobra 01-29-2008, 10:41 PM thanks for all the input guys its helped me choose wiser now
JayDs Ibanez 01-30-2008, 03:56 AM JlT probably the best IMO
Ehmark 01-30-2008, 07:02 PM I must disagree about the metal intakes being hotter in some circumstances its the opposite. I have a hood scoop so the CAI is actually quite cold when I drive fast .The EGR is going to heat up any air in your intake manifold so dont expect a huge difference.
Noveds 01-30-2008, 11:05 PM I haven't seen a CAI yet that you can actually feel in the seat of your pants. My judgement is based soley on how loud the SCsounds between the MAC and JLT. JLT whined louder, but acceleration felt the same. JLT wins. Louder whine=more air=more power. I'm wrong all the time, this wouldn't be the first.
758cobra 01-31-2008, 10:08 PM i will probably get the intake when i get my tax check so i still have time to choose but im leaning towards the JLT
