View Full Version : In a very frustrating dilemma right now...

I am receiving my Saleen Series VI S/C in about two months, so I figure this is the right timeframe to post this dilemma. I know the Saleen blower had a mediocre whine to it, nothing too special though (definitely noticeable). Right now I am running the o/r H-pipe with the Saleen magnaflow mufflers and it is LOUD! I want to be able to hear the whine sooo badly but I also want to keep my awesome exhaust sound. I know that if I keep this setup, I will never hear the blower [&o]. If I switch back to a catted midpipe, I also lose about 6-8rwhp. So I am really stuck right now. I am going to post some options above and PLEASE vote and maybe give some feedback below. I know it is my choice, but I am asking for your opinions. Thanks so much guys, you are awesome!

I would say keep the exhaust setup. I have an O/R H-pipe and I love the way it sounds. But, then again, I have never heard a supercharger whine, so I guess my opinion is a little biased.

If you really want to hear the whine, don't worry about the 6-8hp. You'll never notice it's gone.

I'd say the exhaust notemakes a biggerimpact, though. Although the supercharger whine is pretty cool, I'd rather hear a deep growling exhaust note.

You still might be able to hear the S/C anyway. Remember....the exhaust is in the back, but the supercharger sits right near you.

Just crank up the boost on the SC and you'll be able to hear it whine

I have the Series VI, with an X pipe and the Magnaflow Magnapaks, which is also loud, but I definitely hear plenty of supercharger whine at about 7 psi

Good to know billg. I plan on switching to the 3.4" or the 3.2" pulley once I get enough money for the supporting mods (i.e. fuel system, etc). Hopefully with 10-11 lbs of boost, I will hear plenty of whine.

You can hear me whine everytime I have to park my car and get out! [sm=smiley19.gif]

How do you guys here that much blower whine. The only time I hear our car is cruising at around 2K. Other than that, I hear the exhaust:) I say keep the exhaust as of now.

Jessie, do you wish you could hear more whine? Does the exhaust drowning it out bother you?

no...not really.. I guess because I know it's there..so I really dont need to here it all the time...and besides I dont want everyone else to know its there either.... :D

Seems to me you should get the SC with the mods and see how well you like the whine...you can then make the decision to make the exhaust swaps if you need to hear more............

Put in sound-dampening mat in your car except at the firewall? This will make the exhaust a bit less loud inside the cabin without changing how loud the SC sounds. Another idea is a cowl hood which would make it easier to hear the SC.

The SC is more about the kick in the pants power than that the whine. That's just bonus. The Exhaust is your growl.

Right now it has a 3.6. As soon as I am done with testing of our new heat exchanger the 3.4 is going on!!

The exhaust is the Saleen/Magnaflow with a Bassani SS catted x-pipe.

I was the same way with the supercharger whine, I wanted to hear too. I have an O/R x w/o cats and it is really loud. I say keep the exhaust. Once you get that SC you might not care at that point. Have you all ever wondered about how the cobra's whine like a MF. Well them guys are running like 2.8 pulleys. I always wanted my car to sound like that but I'm not sure if the Series VI will handle it. What I would reccommend is a 3.2 pulley with the SC but make sure the fuel pump is changed to handle it. I have the 3.4 and I can just barely hear my SC over my exhaust. I think the 3.2 will whine that SC out a little more. I'm going from my 3.4 to a 3.2 probably this spring or summer. Good luck.....GOTTA HAVE THE EXHAUST SOUND....

The reason the cobras whine so loud is due to the blower being a root style blower. Ours are twin screw and are much quieter.

True true, That too.

If you go to the 3.2 pulley, you will hear the whine, I wouldn't dick around with your exhaust, the whine is still audible as it is seperate and distinct. Erik

as i told you on the phone your exhaust sounds badass now, but if you really need to hear it more deal with changing your exhaust AFTER you get the s/c and find out for sure if you need to or not
plus your hood is gonna help you hear it more neways and we know youre crankin it up sooner or later and you need to decide whether your exhaust means that much to you
but you know my opinion... keep the supercar scary exhaust

if you get an intake that has an open air cone filter - you will hear much much more blower whine.

Unless you're deaf, you will hear the S/C whine, but my exhaust is loud and much louder than the whine. However, you definitely hear both sounds. One is just much louder than the other.

the only thing is he has loudmouths *cough *cough

Well if I am running toned mufflers as they come from Saleen instead of just straight pipes, I am sure mine will have better sound and tone to it.
