I just got 4.10's and my friend has a 99 Z28 6Spd. This may be a stupid question but who do you think would win in the 1/4 based on if we are both average drivers? He has JBA Headers, lid, Hypertech, and exhaust. I have what is listed below. Thanks.

I hope I dont bum you out, but he has a good advantage over you. I would still race him though, there are other variables like traction and skill that can overcome horsepower. You may lose, but then you could possibly beat him too, but remember to have some fun doing the racing.

I think your going to be disappointed. The 96 Cobra just doesn't have the umph in stock form, even with gears to contend with that Z28, IMHO. I used to own a 96 Cobra before trading up into what I have now. However, if you get a great jump and he's a lousy track driver, who knows?

IF the Z28 is an LS1 engine, they have remarkable torque. Jumping on the pedal in 4th (6 speed has 2 overdrive gears) shows unbelievable roll-on capacity.
I am not sure when they changed from the steel block LT1 to that all aluminum LS1 vette engine, but it was around that time.
Have a look at the engine. If the block is aluminum and each cylinder has a coil on top of the valve covers (or under plastic covers over the valve covers) then you'd need to get the jump on him.
The LS1 Z28s are actually better stoplight racers than the LS1 vettes, which are very long legged and better at paralegal speeds.
If it's the older engine, then you stand a chance. The old engine design dates back to 1955 and it's not all that efficient.

paralegal speeds? You talking about speeds where you need an attorney to get out of jail?

Ya, that would qualify.
Had to laugh when I got pinched in Vermont. The back of the ticket said fines for that infraction can range from $78 to $4000. If I was in a position to get a $4000 speeding ticket, they are fooling themselves thinking they would catch anything I'd be driving at that speed.

Burn him from a dig!!!!!!

Honestly it could go either way, I'm always pullin for the cobra, and you have gears and his are stock. They have crazy top end, beat him out of the hole and you have a good shot.

good luck

The Z28 can almost fit an additional full soda bottle in that engine.
The old saying is "There's no replacement for displacement".

You do have the rev advantage especially with 4.10's...your 3rd and 4th should be pretty lethal....

the 99 Z28 is most definitely a 300+ RWHP LS1. With his mods, he is probably putting down 350 HP to the road. You are maybe 280.

The Z will devour you from a stop, a roll, or a run. You have no chance LOL, but race him for fun anyway

I beat some 01's when I was bone stock in my 96 cobra, honestly people 96-98 vs. 99-01 = drivers race. If you don't believe me and you have a stock 99-01, look up a 96-98 in your area and go for it, prove me wrong lol.
