View Full Version : Charity raffle of 08 GT 500 convertible
cstunkard 01-17-2008, 09:41 PM A friend of mine told me about a charity that is raising money by raffling off a 2008 Convertible GT500 -black with red stripes. For anyone interested the details can be found here: http://www.centerforenrichedliving.org/The drawing is in April so the winner will be able to enjoy the convertible this summer! http://forum.teamshelby.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/happy%20feet.gif
I bought my tickets, its for a very good cause! Good Luck!

I checked with the charity, the car is Black with Red Stripes. Apparently there were very few "official pictures" available to the Charity so they had to use one that didn't match color wise.

cstunkard 01-18-2008, 05:19 PM Thanks to everyone that took a look. If anyone bought tickets Good Luck!
MustangMan64 01-18-2008, 05:22 PM I thought the Black with Red stripes was a special package for last year only?
wtf? why not just raffle off a v6 mustang? thats usually what people do.. one of my good friends won a 05 v6 in a highschool prom raffle.. they could save $40k and put it in the charity by getting a 6'er? gt500 is over kill for that purpose and not very smart IMO
MustangBatman1 01-18-2008, 08:17 PM 100 for charity, why not
Qusus 01-18-2008, 08:27 PM Sweeeettt. GT500? I'm up for one!
blueherd02gt 01-18-2008, 08:53 PM I gave em $.05 :)

Very smart analysis there...the only thing I could think is that the car was donated by someone...its the only way I see them making $$...otherwise they would have to sell lots of ticket to get out of the red.

Doesn't seem like it.
If The Center does not sell at least 600 tickets, it reserves the right to pay half of the collected ticket money in lieu of the car.
cstunkard 01-18-2008, 09:25 PM Not sure how they ended up with the GT500, I understand the actual car is waiting at a dealership outside of Chicago, and it is black with red stripes.
I can tell you this, I bought tickets, and if I win, I will be glad it is not a V6…. Just not sure where I will keep another one, but I can think of worse problems to have, and it is for a good cause!
2007GT/CS 01-18-2008, 09:45 PM No "real" pictures..... No posting of the VIN.....
A full copy of the rules can be obtained by calling (847)948-7001. Must be 18 years of age to enter the raffle. The raffle is void where prohibited by law.
Why not just post a full copy of the rules on the website?
Maybe this is totally legit but I'dhate to see someone here put up $100 on a 1:1300 chance and then get burned.
DarkFireGT 01-18-2008, 10:13 PM I'll do it when I get my tax return. Even if I don't win, that's money I can claim on my taxes.
dmhines 01-18-2008, 10:25 PM I was at a Mustang show and they also were raffling off a Red GT500 convertible. I asked if the winner could pick their color since I would mine in Grabber Orange ... the guy told me no ... the car is bought ... and the one you are looking at is the one you win ... I didn't buy a ticket.

100 bucks for a GT 500 it could be hot pink I'll get it painted.
dmhines 01-18-2008, 10:38 PM I hear yah .... actually I think the odds are better on this one ... 1 in 600 minimum .... 1 in 1299 max ... I'll probably buy 1 or 3 ... Too bad they don't have a counter indicating how many are left ...
cstunkard 01-19-2008, 06:08 AM I would call the number they have on the website, (847)948-7001,they can probably tell you how many tickets they have sold so far or at least if they are on track to sell 600 or more. I bought 3 so I am hoping they get to at least 600!
ckone0814 01-19-2008, 07:16 AM We're one ticket closer with my purchase. What's an approxvalue of the car?

Well, it's worth about 30k... LOL, JK. Sticker for around 43k I think, but still be sold for 10-20k over sticker, which really does surprise me.
Orion_240 01-19-2008, 12:22 PM remember last year when they were raffling off Carroll Shelby's GT500? The blus coupe?
Well I just saw it here at Barrett-Jackson! The guy who won it is now selling it and it looks like he didn't even put any miles on it!
I think it goes today!
Well, gottas get back to the action!
From Scottsdale,
Orion
cstunkard 01-20-2008, 10:33 AM I have been watching the Barrett-Jackson stuff this weekend. A lot of nice mustangs!

ink003 01-23-2008, 08:47 AM the cause is a really good one, regardless of the raffle particulars - i just bought my ticket! heh, and now i'm daydreaming about that fateful day in april when i get a phone call out of the blue: "sir, you just won a gt500!" haha, i think i'd crap my pants!! :D;)
kenthicken 01-23-2008, 12:45 PM I'm in!! Just bought my ticket!
Watch, it's probably an automatic... not that it would matter all that much! A $100 GT500 is a $100 GT500!!
steveo555 01-23-2008, 02:26 PM You can not write this off as a tax deductible.... I was searching there website and found the rules and regulations for this raffle. The link is below.
http://www.centerforenrichedliving.org/admin/Car%20Raffle%20Rules.doc
Watch, it's probably an automatic...
I am pretty sure GT500's only come in 6spd manual
cstunkard 01-24-2008, 06:57 AM Lack of tax deductibility is because it is a raffle not an outright gift. This is the case for any charity fundraising raffle. So the IRS says [sm=chairshot.gif]
And you are correct all GT500’s are 6 speed stick shfts.
08Steeda 01-24-2008, 07:44 AM I just bought my ticket! Good cause. I did some sniffing and searching and it look's legit. I also called and spoke with them at the Charity.
Man would I love to have 2 Stangs!!!!

aoblak 01-24-2008, 08:20 AM I just purchased my three tickets!
vack75 01-24-2008, 09:48 AM The making of money assumption is in correct.
There is a church in PA St. Micheals that raffles off a car every year, last year it was a GT 500. They made a boat load of money. But they spend alot of time going to car shows and other events to sell tickets
cstunkard 01-24-2008, 11:24 PM I have absolutely no doubt it is legit!
I know a guy personally that is very active with this charity.
I was hoping to call them today to see how many had been sold so far but work always seems to get in the way of me getting important things done!
cstunkard 01-25-2008, 09:39 PM Thanks again to everyone who has purchased tickets!
08Steeda 01-25-2008, 09:52 PM Your Welcome! It looks like a really good charity that does really important work!!!

cstunkard 01-30-2008, 02:01 PM Hope they sell enough tickets.
I see alot of people have viewed this post, not sure how many have purchased.
I bought mine. Good luck to all that buy tickets!

I got a letter from them a week ago and I was only ticket #28.
cstunkard 01-30-2008, 07:55 PM I talked with them yesterday, and while they have only sold around 60tickets so far, they were not surprised at that number at this point. It sounded like from prior raffles that sales pick up quite a bit as it gets closer. Not sure what they have raffled off in the past. Anyhow, if we keep this posting active, more will see it and hopefully buy and get to the magic 600 number!
kenthicken 01-30-2008, 10:39 PM The drawing is still three months away, so no doubt they will make it to the 600 minimum.
ink003 01-31-2008, 07:38 AM keeping this thread active in order to potentially boost ticket sales sounds like a good idea to me. and so, in an effort to do just that, i pose a question/challenge to all those who have purchased a ticket:
question -where is the first place you would go if you won?
challenge - if you do win (think positive ;)!), you must travel to this place, take a pic, and post it on the forums.
ink003 01-31-2008, 08:44 AM oops, i forgot to answer my own question - i would go to the grand canyon, since i've never been there, and snap some sick shots of me in the gt500. here's hoping! :D::fingers crossed::
marcuskeeler 01-31-2008, 10:33 AM I'd sell it and stick the money in a low risk savings account maing, what, 4%. I'll gladly take a picture as I wave it away [8D]
ink003 01-31-2008, 10:36 AM haha, good enough! :Dany other takers?
Chris07GT 01-31-2008, 10:45 AM If I won, the first place I'd go would be the bathroom, because I'd probably sh$t my pants!

i'm thinkin it's best not to take a picture of that trip ;)
ckone0814 01-31-2008, 11:19 AM The GT500 would go nowhere but the garage. at least right away.
Now...how about my current 07 gt vert? That would be on it's way to the local Honda dealer for trade-in on an S2000.
kenthicken 01-31-2008, 01:11 PM One hell of a road trip from Illinois (the location of the raffle) back home to Los Angeles... on Route 66. Can't think of a better way to break it in.
wingman75 01-31-2008, 02:56 PM What would the tax be based on... the sticker price?... or the actual value?
cstunkard 01-31-2008, 05:12 PM Good question. While most GT500’s are still being sold over sticker, I think you could make an argument that the tax should be on the sticker price, as I am sure there are a few GT500’s that sold for sticker.

+ 1. Although, there should be some kind of legal paperwork stating the value of the car to back all this up. If the car was donated by the dealership, they would have to state the value (could be the $43K sticker, could be $60K). Same if the car was bought by the charity.
ORIGINAL: DarkFireGT
I'll do it when I get my tax return. Even if I don't win, that's money I can claim on my taxes.
+1
cstunkard 02-01-2008, 08:22 PM Wow, the Grand Canyon... Illinois to LA on Rt66... both sound like great trips.
If I am lucky enough to win I will go to the travel agent so my son and I can fly to Chicago to pick up the car, then we will take turns driving it on the trip home together!!
And it is likely we will take the long way home as Chicago to Pittsburgh is only about 8 hours (even less in a GT500) and I will want the experience to last a lot longer than that!

cstunkard 02-03-2008, 10:53 AM This post is now over 1000 hits. If everyone that looked at it bought just 1 ticket, they would almost be done selling tickets by now. Lets keep this post active so people see it. This board is so active that posts fall off very fast.

28HopUp 02-11-2008, 01:02 PM Well, the charity is now one ticket closer to 600. I just bought one ticket, to which my son kicked in half the price. That means if I win I have to share it with him! BTW, my ticket number was just slightly higher than 150, so they are getting closer but have a ways to go.
cstunkard 02-14-2008, 09:41 PM A friend of mine bought one today, said they were up to 185.... getting closer!
08Steeda 02-18-2008, 09:11 PM Yeah, I bought mine a while ago and it was only in the 40 - 50 range.
I would have to say my first trip in it would be home from Illinois to south Eastern Michigan all the way around Lake Michigan! I will send pictures of it on I-75 heading south on the Mackinaw Bridge for everyone when I win!!!
I would have to take a friend along who would drive my Steeda for me! Man that will be some trip!!!!
Man, I am sporting some serious wood thinking about owning 2 of these monsters!!! I will even make space in my garage for her!
This summer I am having a big shed built in my back yard for all the garage stuff and kids toys. Then I am putting cabinets up, carpeting the floor and painting the walls. Then adding a Kegernator and some wall decor! Boy 2Mustangs would just make life perfect!!!especially a GT500 that I won!!!
Wow, it is fun to dream!!!
08Steeda 02-20-2008, 12:40 AM Bump for a great cause!
cstunkard 02-21-2008, 02:52 PM Anyone buy a ticket lately? PLease post your ticket number so we know what # they are up to.

Someone has to have tax return money by now! BUY A TICKET!
Share the love! :-)

That's good to know - they're getting closer to the 600 ticket threshold to award the car. Otherwise they'll award half the $ collected.

07AlloyGT 03-25-2008, 02:13 PM so, what do you think the actual tax having to be paid to uncle sam will be if you win the car?
remember oprah? lol
this will be 10x worse

My guess is between $3000 and $4000!
Centurion96 03-31-2008, 03:57 PM Expect to pay anywhere between 28% and 50% based upon your tax bracket. It's considered simple earnings and taxed accordingly. You will be taxed for the ADM as well if they list it inclusive to the donated cost of the car.
cstunkard 03-31-2008, 09:10 PM Unless of course you can show a boat load of loosing lottery tickets….I believe you are still allowed to use gambling losses as an offset to gambling winnings!
aoblak 04-11-2008, 09:24 PM I was thinking about buying three more if they were available, does anybody know what number they are at?
28HopUp 04-26-2008, 12:20 PM I checked their website, and it says that over 800 tickets have been sold. They only needed 600 to award the car, so it's definitely gonna be given away. The drawing is on Monday, 4/28
StangPride02 05-02-2008, 11:14 AM We have a winner:
The winner of the raffle is H. Borows of Des Plaines, Illinois; ticket #90.
