I have both a Shelby GT and a V-6 and I like both of them. The V-6 gets really good milage and looks sharp doing it. The shelby is faster but I dont race either one so it really doesnt matter to me. The V-6 gets just as many compliments as the shelby.

Love your thread, and I agree with you guy's and girl's A MUSTANG IS A MUSTANG. I enjoy just watching the S197 driving down the road , no matter what make( reminds me of the 60's pony car's) they are. As far as the next generation Stang I hope they stay with this body style as opposed to the Italian version. Me and my wife love our V6 Auto Vert, it has plenty of power and still looks great with the top down, its just fun to drive year round (San Diego)

Have you guys considered taking the body side molding off of the vert? When ever I see one with it, it makes me think that it is a rental car. I can see the point to help with door dings, but it ruins the body design lines of the car.....IMO.
The City I live in has 152k people , my county has 3.M people 20 miles south is Mexico and 90 miles north is L.A. with this many people around my Mustang Im thinking of getting something like this.
yeah i don't like those door side mouldings either, makes the car look cheap for some reason.. if mine had them i wouldn't have taken delivery til they got removed.

Interesting. Since you don't race, yours would be a good case study on the fuel economy comparison. What do you get 6 cyl vs 8 banger?

I hope this question isn't pertaining to compare GT vs. V6 fuel economy. Because if so, it would be inaccurate as far as comparison. Redcobrasc has a GT500 and a V6...the gas mileage WOULD be different (GT500 worse mileage). Also, consider that the GT500 gets a Gas Guzzler Tax. Not that I'd mind because it's a hot car!

My error. I thought he had a 4.6 Shelby. No, the GT500 wouldn't even be a fair example. I have heard other posters with a 6er claim to have horrible mpg and I suppose it is driving habits.

The Shelby GT still couldn't be compared with the V6. It's also rated at a higher HP (325 claimed, but dyno at 319 for most). I get great gas mileage on my V6! I had a 04 Nissan Sentra I sold to get this car...this car gets the same gas mileage as the Nissan (est. 25 mpg average b/w city and freeway). My buddy has a black GT, he gets about 19-20 average (he doesn't drive hard like I do either ). All mpg ratings depend on the driver, the altitude, weather (heavy wind), mods, etc. You have to notice that some sixers have higher gears added, more body parts added (GT front/rear fascias), dual exhaust, etc...all adds weight and strain to the mpg the car gets. So yes, in this case you could compare the MGP of a GT with a V6. But a stock V6 in most cases will get a significantly higher MPG rating than a stock GT, especially and modded GT.

It's basically a GT engine with a CAI and mufflers. A little closer to the compaison that I was after.

I have a shelby gt and a V-6. with the same driving (aprox 65-70 mph) the shelby gets 22-23 mpg and the V-6 gets 27-28 mpg. I might be able to squeeze more milage out of either one, but it would require driving less than 60mph.

That's where my mileage excells. The speed limit around here is 55 so I drive 58 to get my mpg. Up above 60-65, it drops off pretty rapidly.

what kind of mileage do you get?
Well, this has been a source of heated debate, but in the 70 miles all highway that I drive each day, it averages 27.2 mpg. I have gotten as high as 32 on a different 90 mile run.

That's damn good if you ask me. I forgot to say that the shelby has 3.55 and the 6 has 3.31 and they are both manuals. I drive 100 miles round trip, mostly highway. I have driven both cars the same way on the same route and fairly consistantly the 6 gets about 4-5 mpg better. It could be the gears have something to do with it.

My 3.31's play a huge roll I'm sure. Also, the auto shifts conservatively in the optimum rpm range where as a manual drive may tend to over rev.

Used to be autos didnt do as well as manuals but since all the high speed computers have come into play it is hard to beat a refined auto. by the way all my figures are done on paper. The computer reads about .5 mpg higher on both cars.
