Not all GT owners dislike us V6'ers.... i was stopped at a red light today and saw a Tungsten GT a few cars back in the other lane, i take off on green and at the next light theGT pulls up next to me and driver says "Hey man your exhaust sounds great and car looks awesome"! we small talked a bit and told him how i had a FRPP muffler, etc. and he agian said good choice sounds great"blah blah blah"

Than on green we went our seperate ways.... No we did not race, lots of cops on this road....... anyhow .. thought it was cool to meet another cool person in a Mustang (especially a GT) giving a compliment to a V6. I think the whole thing about being biased toward one another is retarded anyhow.. a mustang is a mustang , drive which ever, mod However. just enjoy our mustangs. V6 haters shall soon be no more.

The separation will always be there, but I am glad to know that there are some decent GT owners. Most people here are fine examples of such, it just sucks we never see them on the road.

I will ALWAYS give my compliments to another GT owner. At cruises, I won't feel at all disassociated with between GT owners and V6ers. I believe a Mustang is a Mustang, and that's the way a lot of older members here feel. The only GT owners you'll see on this site are new comers that don't have the same appreciation you and I do about cars. They're car fans, not car enthusiasts.

not all GT owners are asses, its just the ones that are make them all look bad. there is a few people on these forums who fill that "GT elitest" group, but for the most part the majority of people are cool.

Honestly, your average person can't tell the difference if you at least have dual mufflers.

LMFAO! Don't get me started.

I was driving on the freeway home today RIGHT after reading this post and was thinking that same thing. I drove around and saw this Mustang and I was like "Cool." So I snagged up next to him on his rear driver's side blindspot and looked at his tail pipes to check if he was a V6er like myself or a GT. I noticed he had dual exhaust so I was like, "Cool a GT" then I looked closer and saw the V6 bumper with a cutout slot. Kind of laughed to myself (because I was no more than 2 days away from doing the EXACT same thing) and got up to his window. Yelled across "Nice V6!" and he looked at me in amazement. He responded "How did you know?" and I told him about his bumper (and I also wanted to tell him about the tribar pony he got from the Pony Package but I figured best not to rub it in :).) He laughed and drove on his way.

I've gotten tons of compliments from other mustangs and other car owners, and have never been degraded because I'm missing 12 extra valves or 2 pistons.

Our cars are classics, and we're bringing full light in the fact that a Mustang IS A Mustang, and we will never forget them.

Also, I loved the way his GT takeoffs sounded, even though they WERE a little light on the volume. I wanted something slightly louder, but I then realized that it was all circumstantial. All the clips I hear are EXTRA loud, they have the camera RIGHT BEHIND the mufflers, and there's NEVER an ambient sound. Here I was NEXT to him, in 65MPH traffic with about 100 cars within half a mile either way and I still hear him reasonably loud and clear. I'm gonna LOVE my GT takeoffs now. ^_^

i think that a mustang is a mustang and we should all enjoy them together, it will be more fun that way. as far as the fact that most people cant tell a V6 and a GT apart is funny bc my aunt has a 2007 Gt and i have a 2007 V6, and they are both black. one day she was over my house and she parked behind my stang and when she went to leave she started to get into my V6, i started dying laughing and then she was like i couldnt even tell the diff. it was hillarious:D

I think it is awesome when someone asks me what kind of car that I even have!!!! I also think it is funny when everyone asks if it is a Shelby. I just like to know that people don't know what kind of car I have cause then I know it is different from everyone elses and thats what I was trying to do from the start!!!

I think real Mustang (or any car) enthusiasts are the ones that appreciate GTs and V6 Mustangs all the same. Guys I've met with GTs, ZO6 Corvettes, old muscle cars too, they've complimented me on my car quite often. Actually, they were usually of older age...say 30+. Younger folks with Mustangs now are pretty biased and competitive. You'll pass a GT driver on the road and if he's older, he'll smile, rev hello or give you a thumbs up/wave. You pass a GT driver who is a youngin', and they stick their nose up, give you a dirty look, or try to race you to prove they are better. We all know stock for stock, the GTs are better. And most of us want one at a time or two. Many of us settle because V6 is financially the best you can get for your hard earned dollar. Nonetheless, Mustang is a Mustang. If you love it, GT or V6, who cares what anyone else says or thinks. And if someone compliments it or appreciates it, be much abliged. I compliment GT drivers all the time on their sexy cars...and they return the favor ;)

i have a couple buddies down here with gt's. all of them respect my car. even one that hangs out with me and my buddies fridays/saturdays loves my car. we had an Ls CRX pull into the parking lot that we were at and i pulled in after and because of the headlights/ duals he asked if it was a gt, my buddie said no its a v6. the kid said "ohhh" and he went on and said yeah but it would hand you your ass hahah. it felt pretty good to actually have a v8 guy stand up for your car rather then yourself do it. most of the GT drivers ive met have never ragged on my car.

What you're saying totally makes sense...because that's almost always the case. Most girls drive V6s because they don't care about the power or don't need it or they are scarred to use it. Just saying, that's the usual case. Now, here is CA, I see a lot of older men driving V6s and younger girls driving V6s. Then I see older women driving GTs and younger guys driving GTs. It's weird compared to everywhere else it seems lol! But I have a V6 because I had to budget myself. Plus, the car...exterior wise...is the same so I was getting the looks for a cheaper price. It does good for me now...but in a few years, a GT will be parked next to it. Because I think both are excellent impressive cars and motors!

if i could have found a gt for sale around here that wasn't over-priced i would have got it for sure...the difference in my insurance would have only been $10 a month....plus i usually only get 20 mpg anyway, so might as well have splurged a lil....and actually i was impressed with the v6.....i figured it'd be a pooch, but not too bad

I've owned "lesser" cars and it sucks. That is why we bought a GT. I still feel inadequate when sitting next to a Saleen or a Shelby or a 500. Any Mustang gets my attention going down the road, then we all look to see what KIND of Mustang it is. You see, not all Mustangs were created equal. So to say a Mustang is a Mustang isn't entirely true. If a 6 banger is all you can afford, or want to afford, then good for you. Just know that GT owners made their decision based on many factors.

It's not too hard to understand that the Pony and the GT are different cars.
In my mind, until we acknowledge this and discontinue our cry that a Mustang is a Mustang, we will always be "ragged on" by GT owners.
I am proud that my Mustang has a V6, which is plenty of power for my purpose.
I like the visual simplicity of a stock V6.
I like that it is less expensive to insure.
I like that the engine is durable.
I like that it carries the Pony emblem that represents over 40 years of the classic American Icon.
I like that the price is a bargain for such an Icon.

And I don't try to pretend that it is a powerful car, or a race car, or a drag car, or a GT.
It is a V6 Mustang with a trouble-free, tried-and-true American V6, built for the common American citizen.

Ahh, I agree & disagree. I love the body style of the S197, but I dislike the V6 trim. I think GT trim has a much more aggresive/muscular feel. I do like the V6 is a great durable engine, and I love the pony emblems over the GT emblems.

However, it is not pretending that the V6 is a powerful car, because it IS a powerful car. Rated as one of the fastest V6 under 20k, and has tons of power. Keep in mind the 4.0 V6 is faster than some previous GT version Mustangs.

The V6 has good gas mileage, and great performance, and I got the body style I wanted. With a few mods I get the car I wanted, I do need a GT, the ONLY reason I would buy a GT is for the sound, and that's just not worth the $$$ in my opinion. If I were to spend the money I would go straight to a Shelby or GT500, and that just wouldn't be worth it as a DD.

Interesting discussion and I find myself agreeing with everyone in one way or another.
But I am biased.
I own a 4.0 pony car and I love it.
Who infirred they are only for women? Must have an inferiority complex. [:@]
4.0's can be converted into muscle cars! Yes indeed! They can whip a lot of stock GT's too and IMHO, they look better than a stock GT any day.
I could have baught a GT. Drove enough of them before I decided on the pony.
Just wasn't enough difference to cause me to caugh up the extra doe.
Now I don't have anything against V8 power or the GT's.
I've ownedseveral V8 hotrodsover the years.
I might even swap out my 4.0 for a BOSS 302 some day. Then again, I will probably keep her like she is and buy another one and do the swap.
4.6 liter. Puhh!Who came up with that idea? Tried and true, the 5.0 rules! :D

I could afford a GT or a Shelby, but I bought my V6 because I preferred the look. I don't like the squarish GT letters and I think the cars look really stark without the Mustang letters along the side. The PP emblems and grille look great to me. It was my preference. I can drive 120 mph in the V6 and that is fast enough for me.

I have to diagree, in fact, I think the GT is better looking. Thought they are still the same, sorta. I like the front and rear fascia and rocker panels on the GT for sure! The only thing I don't care for are the fog lights in the grille...silly I think. I prefer the setting of the GT500 fogs, where they are supposed to be. Anyways, if people didn't buy the GT because they don't like the emblems...and routed for the V6 instead...why? I just don't see how emblems, which could be easily removed, would make your decision on a signifcantly cheaper car (assuming you were able to afford a GT). I would, and plan on in the future purchase of a GT to join my sixer, remove the GT badges anyways. I'm not a fan of badges, I like people to guess what I'm driving [sm=gears.gif]

Just seems like a strange excuse...IMO.

I think the point of the fogs in their present location was tocopy the location of the 69 Stang. This year had the high and low beams (4 lights) and in 1970, they went back to 2 lights. I had a 69 Fastback and in my mind, there was no better styling.

It hasn't escaped me what a Mustang is. By continually crying out that "a Mustang is a Mustang," it connotes a desperation to be equalled to the GT and the rest of the model lines. The fact is that there are differing levels of performance in Mustangs off the assembly line, and many of those who paid more money for higher performance will always have a hard time accepting that those who paid less imply that their cars are the same. True or not, this wish-to-be-equal is an unfortunate interpretation that the GT owners have when they hear us V6 owners say that a Mustang is a Mustang. No doubt: a Mustang is a Mustang, and that always goes without saying. The problem is that the V6 owners are the ones that keep saying it.

Powerband,,,,your missing the pointits not that the V6 is trying to be equal to the GT's power or performance. (in fact i proudly sport a 4.0 badge!)its the fact that the car, the look, the model is a MUSTANG,,, who cares if its a V6, GT, shelby, cobra, stick shiftor automatic... wheather its a saleen, roush or amach, a boss, if its black , white , red, with racing stripes, dual exhaust, single axel back, lowered, tinted .. badged, sleeper, fog lights, modded, stock, chrome wheels, polished wheels,,, you get the point............ its all still a mustang.. We have the "CHOICE" to have a faster version, a color of our choice, slight changes in bodystyle, different size liter engines, different exhausts, and of course the thousands of different looks we can adjust from stock , to upgrades, mods, aftermarket parts.

I don't know anyone who rags on the cars. It's not my intent. It's just when I see a Mustang approaching me, I get all excited and then if it's a 6 banger, it's kind of a let down or disappointment. I don't know....maybe I was hoping for a S or a 500. At least a GT.

When I see a mustang, I'll do the best I can to get next to them. I usually play cat and mouse with them for 10 minutes before I actually get next to them, and I tip my "hat" and drive on. They return the gesture and do the same. Makes me feel damn good.

And it's a let down and a disappointment? lol wow, makes you wonder what happens when one of those s281 saleen extremes rolls up on a GT. See how the cycle goes? Not really any point to getting depressed when a sixxer rolls up? The whole no replacement for displacement died when 4 cylinder's out-of-the-box killed v8's

I am sorry but I was reading over the thread until the whole "seeing a v6 makes me disappointed", kinda took me back to third grade so I wanted to just correct it. I do not mean to come off as vicious, its just rough when all the forums on the internet hold on to the same belief.

... your missing the pointÂ*its not that the V6 is trying to be equal to the GT's power or performance. (in fact i proudly sport a 4.0 badge!)Â*its the fact that the car, the look, the model is a MUSTANG,,,Â*Â* who cares if its a V6, GT, shelby, cobra, stick shiftÂ*or automatic... wheather its a saleen, roush or aÂ*Â*mach, a boss, if its black , white , red, with racing stripes, dual exhaust, single axel back,Â*lowered, tinted .. badged, sleeper, fog lights, modded, stock, chrome wheels, polished wheels,,, you get the point............Â*Â* its all still a mustang.. We have the "CHOICE" to have a faster version, a color of our choice, slight changes in bodystyle, different size liter engines, different exhausts, and of course the thousands of different looks we can adjust from stock , to upgrades, mods, aftermarket parts.Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*

You don't have to tell me this. Tell it to the GT owners, who will always think that we're trying to equal our V6 to their V8 every time someone cries "a Mustang is a Mustang."
We all know a Mustang is a Mustang. No ****. But the more this phrase is uttered, claimed or otherwise yelled in bold capitalized letters, the more it implies an inferiority complex.

It's not a pig in my avatar, it's a cat! A fat cat, just like mine at home. :P

I just don't get the whole V6/GT things, most of the guys here in Houston have GT's that I hang with, I am the only 6'er. And we are always having fun about it. They nicknamed my car V6 of Fury, but they never say "oh its just a 6, blah blah" They all respect me and my Mustang. I am always telling them I will woop their butt's on the track, because they all know I have the fastest car :D (that was a joke)

Seriously though, the only difference between the two are engines, everything else is personal preference. And people have to understand, you dont need a V8 to love a Mustang.

Well the emblems are important. If you drive a V6 and put GT emblems on it, that is dishonest. If you drive a GT and put Pony Package emblems, that is just weird because then folks think that you drive a V6. I like the pony package emblems, and that is why I bought a V6. The emblems are a big part of identification of the car, and as a car purist, I want to have the original emblems. I wouldn't change the emblems on my '66 Galaxie because I want it to be all original from head to toe.

It has one. It says....GT. I feel that the GT badging issubtle, but classy. I have the pony badging (tri bar) on my center caps and steering wheel for nostalgia but that's it. Part of the retro styling. It has to set itself off and be unique from other trims.

I used to be big on the fighting between the classes but I dont really care anymore. Ive started meeting too many of the nice ones to hold a grudge. I still like to pick at the new s197 roush's and saleens tho but they are good natured about it mostly cause we both know if they wanted they could beat the brakes off my lil sixxer. Its just the young teens that I see that are really snobbish about the difference. Its funny racing them, most clutch out at the light or suddenly loose the fire to race when you keep up with their girl in the window in your little 6.

I have received several comments from my car from GT owners. I have raced a few (knowing that im going to lose) but i still do it out of fun. I will give a head nod and we will go our seperate ways. All of the negative remarks i have gotten have come from non mustang owners, just talking trash. Most of which own buckets anyway. A Mustang is a Mustang, the only difference isthe preference in your type of Mustang.I bought my V6 because its what i could afford, im under 25 with a heavy foot. I refuse to pay $1000 a month for insurance (GEICO). I know i will problably own a GT one day maybe even a GT500 (crosses fingers). But for now i am happy with my decision. Im the one who is driving the car not anybody else.

I look at this way, the V6 is the economy version of a legendary car. We could have bought a vast number of other V6 models in the automotive industries, but we chose the Mustang! Why? Because we like driving a legend! Not only that, but with the price of gas these days, the numbers do add up! Sure some GT owners will tell you that there isn't much of a difference in gas mileage, I say even if it's a 3-5 mile difference that's $9-15 in my pocket!

I get on average 25 mpg. ;)

actually this past summer i was out driving around (this was just after i got my wheels and exhaust done) and i noticed a red shelby gt500with white stripes was right behind me the light turned red at the next intersection and i was stopping and he pulls out from behind me into the next lane over and stops a few car lenghts from the car infront of him, right next to me. i knew what it was and was kinda nervous to look over cause i thought he might be like "thats just a 6 isnt it?" but i finally glance over and he gives me the thumbs up and pulls up the few carlenghts in line. it was such a cool feeling!! getting a hat tipped to you from the king of mustangs! it was awesome.

this just goes to prove that a sweet ride is a sweet ride nomatter what its got under the hood. these cars a damn quick with whatever engine option you have. and personally i think the GT is the middle brother who only beats up on the little guy cause he cant touch the big brother. but hey. all our rides are sweet. if its a six or a s/c 5.4. it still a mustang.

True, true all. One of the truely legendary moments is when stangs no matter what year or engine size come and work together. I was drivin my lil 6 around town just for the sake of doing it (yes I know with gas Im a moron but hey who doesnt wanna take their pony for a spin?) and I came across a beautiful blue dodge viper. I mean that thing was loud and looked vicious. Well I admired it pulling up along side it and ofcourse the windows were tinted to hell so I couldnt see in and I just left it at that. Well the window comes down and the guy starts trash talking ford and mustangs!!!! So in my mind im like "wtf asswipe?". So I start poppin off at the mouth back to him being I am 18 and a guy and the driver of a red V6 mustang and I can damn well pop off to a new dodge viper anyday I want. Well we rev (and no, I didnt stand a chance) and take off at the light. I tried but lets face it, aint no way a still almost stock sixxer stang is gonna keep up with that for long. For the first maybe minute half minute I kept up then my sixxer maxed at like 140 and he was still going....well next thing.....outta nowhere......this honest to f*cking God, 1967 All black fastback Mustang comes roaring by on its back two wheels. I mean it was like "holy f*ck are those flames shooting out the pipe!?" Well this beautiful black mustang from hell completely embarasses the viper, slows down, beats him again, slows down and does it again for a third time and just is all over that viper to the point of the guy turned on his flashers and went another way. As we near the end of my tale I very VERY slowly approach this 67 who is now at a stop light revving his engine, shaking the ground and spouting fire from the exhaust. Now going through my mind is "Oh my god I think i just came" but my shock and awe turns to disbelief because when I get dead even with it at the light and look over.....its a damn old man who looks about mid to late 70's sitting there with literally "Bad to the bone" by george therogood (sp?) playing and giving me the biggest toothless grin I have ever seen. Well the light changes and Im between laughing for Jesus cause finally there is one of the old breed next to me and crying for how bad that old papa stuck his foot up that youngsters ass. End of story he takes off again burning rubber and leaving smoke in his wake as he burns off down the highway and at last second I catch on his hatchback a sticker that reads "Hell on wheels".

I asked a simple question and even said please. Now that he has answered the question, the issue is solved. Since he doesn't list his mods, how was one to know his car's potential. It would have been nice if he had mentioned the mods in his story. It would have added something to it. Now, F/O!

I noticed that too, but decided not to comment on it because of the already... testy nature of this thread.

Same here but it's the GT's too. Hell, I know a 4' 9" 40-year old woman that I work with that bought a Mark III custom GT just cause she "felt like it."

Oh, and my girlfriend wants a Shelby GT with an Eleanor kit.

They don't need to know about anything in it as long as it goes fast and they can drive stick.

Great story ChrisRod! The old man driving the black Mustang from Hell with the flames shooting out the back makes me think of the movie "Ghost Rider" with Nicolas Cage. Perhaps that '67 Mustang was a Ghost Rider protecting the legendary Mustang name! I hope you find him someday and get a full story on his car. ;)

From what Ive heard the new V6 stangs (05 and up) are equal with the 04 and older year GT's and Cobra's. This is comparing only stocks tho not all the GT's and cobras and sixxers that have been modified. Ya....id be pretty pissed too if the next year's V6's were just as fast as my V8 and even looked better too. Lol ok bring on the flameage ^-^

On the serious note its not about Gt's and sixxers and all that jazz anyway. Just be happy your driving a legendary mustang. There will always be a car faster than yours and always a car slower than yours, its just the way it goes. You win some, you loose some.

Our V6s our not equal to the older(99-04) GTs. I'm sure we'd all like to think so but it's not the case. The New Edge models were pushing 260 HP/302 ft.tq. We can surely keep up with a stock GT, stock for stock, but by no means keep even or beat one. Now a modded S197 V6 with, let's say, a CAI/Tune, exhaust, and a few minor mods can easily keep up with a stock 99-04 GT. Now to our benefit, the V6s carried about 190 HP :D And thank god, the new GT500 pushes 500 HP...the 2001 Cobra had about 325 HP :(. So all in all, our V6 is very impressive and has a lot more potential. But it's mindless to say that we can beat a 99-04 GT...

I totally agree with you on that but being a man and knowing how many of us think at 30+ or not I am sure your look and the fact that you know the car helped them to open up to you and compliment the car......may not work for women but if a woman compliments my carI take it as such (most of the time) but if a man complimentsa womans car sometimes they have alterior motives and really want something else...if you know what I mean.... besides it is JMO .....J (I am sure they were sincere):D

I dunno man I haven't ever come in any sort of conflict, most people in my area regard both v6 and v8 as the same thing, since the body is essentially the same. So pretty much haven't heard anything besides one lady complain her GT's fuel economy is pretty bad so she stops checking the MPG on her dash. It shouldn't be that bad though right? I'd expect maybe 18 out of it. I'm only getting 19.2 out of the v6. All in all, I know I bought a mustang... what's under the hood is fine with me as long as it isn't a 4 banger in this type of car, I heard those older 4cyl mustangs were slugs.

Oh and on top of all, I had a lot of people checking out my car when it was brand new when I drove it around Blackhawk/Danville (this is where most of the rich people live here). The pony grille really sets off the car and I think people got kind of bored with the GT fogs.

Of course 90% of the people settled for a V6, simply because it was good enough for them, or because that is what they could afford. We settle for things in every aspect of our lives.

Of course 90% of the people settled for a V6, simply because it was good enough for them, or because that is what they could afford. We settle for things in every aspect of our lives.

I mean I could have been an astronaut, but I settled to on planet earth instead :D

LOL. I guess what I was trying to say was, it seems like there are people on here who actually like their V6 because its a V6 and not just using it a stepping stone toa GT or whatever.

I agree. Nothing has changed though. Still settling for 1 reason or another. Hell, I settled for a GT. I wanted a 500 after it.

Your statement made me kinda get the whole V6/GT decision. I could have swung a GT500, but they really dont appeal to me AS much as the regular GT.

So willpeople start ripping onME now? :D

You still are in orbit. Your on Terra, going around Sole, going around Milkey Way, going around Universe. It's all in your own perspective. One mon's "settling" is another man decision.

I know I would go deer hunting in one if I was in that situation, but then again I would not be talking to manequins either :)

True. You ever see The Omega Man? Charlton Heston didn't go around talking to dummies.

Yep, and also Alfred Hitchcocks, Last Man on Earth, he didn't talk to manequins either :) He talked to himself alot... but not manequins, and Tom Hanks only talked to Wilson, he didn't make a full body fake person :D

I've been complimented WITH the bf in the car at one time too though.. Who knows lol :D I get what you're saying though!

ORIGINAL: mygt500

I totally agree with you on that but being a man and knowing how many of us think at 30+ or not I am sure your look and the fact that you know the car helped them to open up to you and compliment the car......may not work for women but if a woman compliments my carI take it as such (most of the time) but if a man complimentsa womans car sometimes they have alterior motives and really want something else...if you know what I mean.... besides it is JMO .....J (I am sure they were sincere):D

ORIGINAL: 05MustangSally

I hope that's not the real reason...I believe some were sincere though :(

ORIGINAL: mygt500

I totally understand what you are saying but I am sure it helps that you are very good looking and are into cars! (myself being 30+) JMO J

My 2008 Pony Package Mustang is completely stock, and I have no intention of making any modifications. I receive at least one complement every couple weeks, either from strangers looking at the exterior, or from friends who ride as passengers.

When I bought the car, I knew I wasn't going to make any modifications, but I didn't expect to receive complements, either. I appreciated my car when I first drove it off the lot, but since receiving the unexpected complements, I nowappreciate it even more.

Love your thread, and I agree with you guy's and girl's A MUSTANG IS A MUSTANG. I enjoy just watching the S197 driving down the road , no matter what make( reminds me of the 60's pony car's) they are. As far as the next generation Stang I hope they stay with this body style as opposed to the Italian version. Me and my wife love our V6 Auto Vert, it has plenty of power and still looks great with the top down, its just fun to drive year round (San Diego)http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z8/redcobrasc/DSCN1884.jpg

I have both a Shelby GT and a V-6 and I like both of them. The V-6 gets really good milage and looks sharp doing it. The shelby is faster but I dont race either one so it really doesnt matter to me. The V-6 gets just as many compliments as the shelby.

Have you guys considered taking the body side molding off of the vert? When ever I see one with it, it makes me think that it is a rental car. I can see the point to help with door dings, but it ruins the body design lines of the car.....IMO.

Interesting. Since you don't race, yours would be a good case study on the fuel economy comparison. What do you get 6 cyl vs 8 banger?

05MustangSally
02-05-2008, 11:26 AM
I hope this question isn't pertaining to compare GT vs. V6 fuel economy. Because if so, it would be inaccurate as far as comparison. Redcobrasc hasa GT500 and a V6...the gas mileage WOULD be different (GT500 worse mileage). Also, consider that the GT500 gets a Gas Guzzler Tax. Not that I'd mind because it'sa hot car!
