Just finished my oil/air separtor today. I used the Moroso unit because that's what was in stock at Summit when I went there on Saturday. Used all the same parts except I reused the stock factory couplings, they have a nice o-ring set up on them. Mounted the canister the only real place that was available (on the cold air intake surround).
Thanks for all the details and parts list. While running the engine I undid the cap slightly and there really is a lot of vacuum holding against the cap! Should keep things nice and clean in the intake.

Once I cut them off the original hose I dipped the end in oil and pushed them right into the hose. I wrapped the ends with a little electrical tape to keep the wire ends from pokin out. then used a small hose clamp as insurance. Looking at the o ring on the end of the fitting it should seal in the new hose fine.
Now I have to decise what mod is next! decisions, decisions............

i like the factory couplings to and i plan on reusing them also....i wonder tho if those o-rings survive the very tight fit......
can't wait to do mine, just waiting on the stef's can.

So is the Moroso can 10an in and out?
If so what is the part number?
Any pics?
How much hose did you use?
Thanks,

The Moroso unit is 12AN, and i can't for the life of me figure out how to convert the 12AN fittings to a 5/8" (10AN) slip on hose with clamp cleanly! Can you post a write up and or pics of how you did this? THanks.
The Steeda unit has 1/4 NPT to 3/8" hose fittings. I looked and lookid and can't find any 1/4 NPT to 5/8" hose fittings. Moose, how did you convert it?

Thanks onederful, but how do you convert a threaded AN fitting to 5/8" hose slip on with clamp?
if you look on page 3 of this thread, moosestang has a pic of his in the engine with the clamps on so i guess it must fit.
I used the -12an hose and fittings. The hose compressed fine over the stock push-to-connect fittings by just using a standard worm type hose clamp, but I was planning to step up the stock fitting by using another piece of 5/8 inch hose or even 1/2 inch over the fitting and slipping that into the 12an hose and securing it with a hose clamp. Not the best way, but easier and cheaper than stepping down from -12an fittings to 10. The best way is to just buy the stef's can with -10an fittings.

Moose, you wouldn't happen to have a list of the parts you used for your setup similar to modaddict's list, would you? I'd like to know how much your setup came to, as well as what fittings you went with on the stef's can. I think I like your method better, but this thread has my head spinning.

Yes that will work, but using reducers is going to give you less options on where you can mount your can. If I had used reducer it would have made the fitting to long and hit the radiator hose. If you're mounting the can in a spot with lots of access at the bottom then it won't matter.

Part # Item Box Qty Price
MOR-63401 BRACKET 1 $6.95
MOR-85471 SEPARATOR TANK 1 $96.95
SUM-220704 TWIST-TITE -12 END STRAIGHT 1 $8.06
SUM-220714 TWIST-TITE -12 END 90 DEGREE 2 $30.52
Ignore the extra 90 degree fitting because I didn't use it. I didn't know where I was going to mount mine at the time so I covered all my bases. $127 was my total not including $20 for the hose from napa. I would get the Stef's can instead with -10an fittings and buy the -10an straight and 90 or whatever kinds you need for your mounting location. Then use the -10an or 5/8 inch hose. The fittings will be cheaper because they are smaller and the hose will fit better over the stock fittings.
All this assumes you are going to cut the plastic tube and remove the stock push on fittings. The whipple instructions have you do this anyway.

I will give you the part number tonight and pictures. The Moroso can is size 12an out. I bought the two adapters (12an to 10an) recommended in the earlier thread. I used 3ft of 1/2" (10an)hose, Russell brand. I took me an hour do this mod and with the wire braded hose, stock fittings on the intake and valve cover plus the AN fittings it really looks nice and functions great.

Theres a shop near me that has the Greddy unit, and it's 15mm, so i won't need any AN fittings or adapters at all. For $85 it seems like a good deal and should work just fine. I'll try to post pics next week when it's done. Here's a link with a pic

The clear hose they show with that can bothers me. The hose that came with my cheapo can from ebay was pure crap. No way could it be used with any form of vacuum. As far as I know the greddy can is just like the others, empty can with no filtering media. I also don't like the quick connect fittings on the side with a clear plastic tube between them for a sight glass. The one I had at first was like this and it just made the thing look cheap.
Leave the greddy can for the ricers. Speaking of ricers, there are some nice air/oil seperators made for the evo and sti, but they are $150+.
