HAS ANYONE HEARD HOW MANY GT5OO'S WILL BE PRODUCED FOR THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. ALSO, IS THIS GOING TO BE THE ONLY MODEL YEAR FOR THE 'GT500' OR WILL THEY STILL BE PRODUCED OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS?

The last issue of MM&FF's had a caption about this. They said that they verified that SVT isn't going away anytime soon and just because there isn't going to be a lightning or a focus that there will still be a cobra... If you guys would like me type the whole artical out I would be glad to do so.

I heard the number 7000 a year for a few years. But I haven't seen anything official yet. I will post it when we get the news here at the dealership.

Lol it seems you dont know about the GT500 cobra. It is official, the cobra is coming out, it was unvieled at the auto show.

Its using the GT40 engine which is a 331ci 5.4L s/c motor putting down an underrated 450hp, which is probly 500 -550hp.

i assume you're talking about the ford GT engine since the gt 40 hasn't been made since the 60's. and the '07 GT500 is NOT using the aluminum ford GT engine. it's going to be a derivitave of the 04 cobra's 4.6 I.E iron block, aluminum heads, 4 valve, roots-blown. but it's going to be upped to 5.4L. NO independant rear suspension either. and it is being made by SVT in association with carroll shelby. so SVT isn't going anywhere. Hau Tai-Ting the cheif engineer for the '05 mustang just took over at SVT so i expect some pretty interesting stuff in the near future.

If it is not in hot rod or popular hot rodding i havent herd of it. That i have seen, they have said nothing of a new gt 500. The first time i am hearing of it is in this thread. it sounds sweet though.

I think you're correct 'bout the iron block, but the blower is a screw type, not roots.

I wouldn't want an aluminum block in the first place. You don't see many of them making 1000 hp without cracking wide open.

i have a dumb question lol
why would it be cast iron if the o4 mach 1 a suposed lesser model had a 4v aluminum? i mean i could be way off but a guy i work with said his o4 mach has a 4 valve aluminum...so why would a cobra have a cast iron block if it weighs more?

strength. the iron block isn't really all that much heavier. but it is significantly stronger.

Okay information nazi. Supercharged 331 in the GT500 and a Supercharged 331 in the Ford GT. Basically its the same engine.
