I'm wondering how many of you have seen the original interview and not the video that John so diligently put together.
Might I suggest check out my site, and then watching the original video for yourself. I've been called out SO many times on the $90k figure that it's just... well.. funny now. I also wonder how many of you know that the video was taken almost 4 years ago. Here's the link: http://www.2000transam.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core:DownloadItem&g2_itemId=28038
$90k included the PURCHASE of 2 cars... during that interview, I was asked to use round numbers, and the total to get me to those numbers.
My GTP was bought new.. Aug of 96... Paid about $27k for it. Right off the bat, I was interested in competing in SQ+ and sunk a huge chunk of change into the GTP. MOST of that $90k figure is due to the GTP. My wife and I met in Feb of 99. Years after I had put the money into the GTP.
My T/A was bought new in Nov of 99. Paid about $27k for it as well. At that time, the TOTAL amount of money I had into the T/A was probably around 10 grand. And not even all of that was 'currently' on the car. I'm sure that some of you can relate to broken parts.... a lot of that figure also included fixing or replacing parts that had broken.
From the day that the show aired, I've only had 1 major purchase on the T/A... I replaced the engine due to 2 broken pistons. If you fast forward 2 months after the engine was replaced, the TOTAL investment on that car has been less than $500 in 3 years, minus tires, oil, gas and brakes.
OMG! 6k for heads and cam? WOW!... yeah.. but, $6k included dealership tear down of the motor, a tow from Dallas to Houston, GTP heads, GTP cam, headers, other exhaust work, tune, dyno time, etc.
$2500 a month? Well, hell yeah! Add up all your gas, insurance, general fix ups ( oil, brakes, whatever ) and multiply that times 3... I had 3 cars between the 2 of us.
Also, if you guys are interested, pay attention to the video edits... Jenie has never, ever, ever been in my car while she was pregnant.. EVER. And my step kid has NEVER been in the car while I've been racing.. EVER. Watch the edits, and tell me that you *truly* think that the audio and video fits... It doesn't.
I'm not here to defend myself against stupid **** that I did years and years and years ago.. to a bunch of mustang guys no less... Hell, I admit.. a lot of it was stupid, but, a good portion of it was blown WAY out of reality, and edited to make TV ratings. I've watched that video enough times to laugh at it, and myself, more times than I care to admit.
Other comments like.. 'I could have a 6 bedroom house' is another one of the hot buttons that people like to talk about... Hell.. we lived in a 4800sq/ft 4 bedroom house! What’s 2 extra bedrooms?!?
I bid you all a wonderful day..

that 13.1 was basically from idle. he didnt launch it hard. his reaction was probably bad and he probably didn have all the mods he said he did them. even then i know of a firebird that would toast that. get your facts straight before flaming please.
reaction has nothing to do with your ET!
That is true your reaction could be 40 secs. and your ET could still be 10.3 or whatever .
I just watched the whole interview, he didnt "blow the doors off of the Supra" lmao I dont think the car is 10.3 fast, and he said "The segment was taped on a blown motor running 6cyls" why would you just drive around with a blown motor, thats doesnt sound to smart.
*yawn*
Read what I typed in that SVT thread.
I had blown the drive shaft on the car the launch before... I wasn't aloud to go backwards in the pits...
The 1/8th mile time on that run was something like a 9.1@52-ish... I was taking it easy as it was a 300 mile trip home from that track. I went WOT in third gear the rest of the way down the track and picked up damn close to 70mph in 1/8th of a mile.
Does that video help my case? No, not at all, unless you know the story behind it.
Last comment for now... The supra video.. my car wasn't anywhere close to running 10.4's... best time I had previous to the showing was 11.3@123 running on all 8 cylinders.
Running the car with the blown motor may not have been the best thing for it, but, what did I care? It was already in the crapper and I was in the process of having it replaced anyways.

It doesn't really matter, cause the LS1 guy is still a total tool, and still totally full of ****.
And as I said in my first post, it was blown way out of proportion. Glad to see Chris finally came in to straighten it all out. It's always easy to bash someone only knowing one side of the story.
It must be nice to be 17 and have a good reaction time. Fact is, why dont you focus on getting through high school, then worry about talkin ****. Instead of trying to sound tough against someone that has been drag racing for a long time. So go home, tell mama that a old guy did you wrong and talked bad to you on the internet, and that you got a A- on your report card.
P.S. TA guy, your still a tool, no matter how much you try and defend yourself.
Chris Johnson what do you mean to a bunch of Mustang guys no less...?
Nothing other than the fact that I'm a Pontiac guy on a Ford site... I'd expect more **** from Ford guys on a Ford board... that’s all.
FWIW, I'm not defending myself.. like I said, this is all just funny to me now... ALL of this crap has been hashed over for years now.. none of it is original and none of it is stuff that I haven't heard before.
My intention, however prosaic it may be, was to just tell a part of the other side of the story.

We all know what you mean CJ about the media blowing thing out of proportion because the truth is not always interesting.
Just have 3 questions though.
1. Alot of us were like why did you tell him you were gonna race him and not come out?
2.Why did your wife when she was asked by the reporter(who by the way seemed kinda dumb) "Let me get this straight, you've actually been in the car pregnant and hes gotten into a highway race and you've ask him to stop and he wouldn't "and she said yes? I believe that you wouldn't be dumb enough to do that though, you don't seem like the type.(I hope)
and 3. Do you think the Cobra would beat you?

#2: it's an edit in the tape.. watch close. I don't remember any more ( I can ask her if you REALLY want to know ) what she was replying to, but it wasn't the answer she gave when she was asked that specific question.
#3: I've offered over and over and over for John to come out to one of my PCA events and we'd run ALLLLLL the way down the runways... he's never shown up, and I refuse to race on the street anymore. I would have made the ONE exception that night to just shut him up. See... I just don't care if I'm faster, or he's faster.. it's childish. I know, without a doubt, that I'm nowhere near the fastest person in the world, and I've never claimed I was. See, a lot of this rage from him comes from the fact that I called him on his race videos. You may have seen the them. The one that I called him on, he was racing an 'All bolton LS1'... well, I sure as hell hope that he'd beat the crap out of it.. I suggested that he run someone more in his league and that he was looking like a fool for running stock, or just bolton LS1's. He took that to mean that I wanted to race him.
I don't drag race any more.. in fact, I honestly find it boring. I've gotten into legit, sanctioned 'road racing'. My car isn't set up for drag any more.
BTW, that brings up another point... Street tires, and his so called myth. Yes, my 10.4 times were done one 'street' tires.. 315/35/17 GS-CS's and was backed up fairly closely with 275/40/17 555RII's. I still can't figure out why he has such a hard time with that... it's not like they are pep boys street radials... If you do your research, they are road race 'slicks' that I drive on the street with. Maybe he can't distinguish the two.

Well if your pushing 700hp, 10.3 sound's possible because my Uncle has a 72' Camaro and he has about 1000hp(with a 250 shot of NOS) and even though the car is heavy he running 10.3 on street/strip tires.

What does he trap at? I find that strange 'cause the twin-turbo Cobra (roughly 1000 hp) ran a 9.13 @ 149. So if the Camaro is more than a second slower, I'm wondering maybe if it's trapping really high.
wow i started a riot in here LOL. anyways im glad to see chris come and defend himself, regardless of how fast is car is or isn't he still said some stupid things in that video. i know it was edited and all
