I think if you plan on modding it no. But if you plan on keeping it in it's original condition then o yeah. Shelby won't be alive much longer so that car will hold it's value if not rise in value!!!!

If it's the best you can do, yeah, get the Shelby GT......if you have anything in your reserve, hold out for the Shelby GT500. As Black Mamba GTT mentioned above......Carroll isn't as young as he once was and I would imagine his cars will continue to have the ability to capture a Mustang lover's heart!
Should you? Don't know.... Do you want to? There is nothing a Shelby GT can do that a Mustang GT can't (for less money).
I know this is the Shelby section--and I autocross one and not a Mustang GT because the way our classing works I can't upgrade a Mustang GT and run the same class as I can the Shelby. That's why we have the car. Maybe some folks like the looks of it better with the stripes. Maybe it's the fact you can own a real live, registered and documented Shelby. All good reasons, and ones to be considered. But I'll tell you right now I can make a Mustang GT handle better for less money (or make it the same for less money if you go with all FRPP stuff).
Do I hate them? No. Am I a realist? Yep. Nobody I know who has an SGT regrets it. I don't regret buying myself a "regular" GT for my use--but I race the Shelby (and win too... Shelby GT #450. 2007 SCCA National Champion).
Potential buyers should know that the Shelby GT is more expensive than an Audi TT or Nissan 350Z and that all the upgrades (not including the stripes and hood scoop, which we don’t necessarily consider upgrades, anyway) are available from Ford Racing Performance Parts for a total of $2656.

Oh Redwarrior, why do people like you constantly understate the cost of this? Here is a list of what I can think of off the top of my head.
01. Grill 02. X-pipe 03. Power Pack Mufflers 04. Handling Suspension 05. CAI 06. Gear change 07. Tuning 08. 18" bullit wheels 09. Silver Striping 10. Hoodscoop 11. Hood Pins 12. Radiator Cover Panel (with pre-cut holes for hood pins) 13. Rear Fascia 14. Front Fascia 15. Shelby Letter Emblem 16. Strut tower brace 17. Hurst short throw Shifter 18. Shelby Sill Plate Inserts 19. Shelby Sill Plate Accents 20. Shelby CSM Plate Banner 21. Labor(my local shop charges $85/hr)
I realize some of the above mentioned are replacement parts so you can't take full price into consideration, but $2656?? I need to know where you shop if you can get all that plus labor. I also realize that you said that pin striping isn't an upgrade, but I disagree with you on that too. It is an upgrade to the paint job. People pay every day for just such a thing.
All this, and not to mention it is a limited Shelby Automobile that will only be increasingly sought after throughout time. I would imagine there were people back in 1968 saying the exact same thing you are now.
I didn't state anything about prices because I don't know much about the Mustang as I stated in another thread I am only gathering information for a friend who wants to purchase a sports car.
If you would have clicked on the link you would have noticed it was an article from Car and Driver so let them know.
Also, I keep seeing on this forum because its a Shelby it will increase in value whenever he dies. That is a misleading statement as not every car will increase in value and his death may or may not have anything to do with that perceived value. Think about it did all Fords increase in value when Henry Ford died?
Special option cars that are purchased packaged away in some climate controlled enviroment is the cars that demand the high dollars. If you want that then fine but you have to understand what your getting into and that is a car that sits giving you no enjoyment for say about 20 years.
Now as far as for an investment, most car investments do not outpace inflation so you might do better by putting your 35k into something a little more guarenteed.
Whatever your decision good luck

I am not betting on Carol Shelby's death. It is the simple fact of "limited" offering regardless of bolt-ons. Every other Shelby in existance holds better value than the stock car....considerable more. I don't see how it can be any different today than throughout Shelby's history.
And yes, compound interest of 35K would be worth a lot more in 20 years than any car bought at that price.

One thing a Shelby CAN do that a GT can't is HOLD IT'S VALUE.
