Ya I can't calculate that box's volume with the link you provided. My box is not square or a triangle.

pretty sure I covered this before as well but once again....

V = L * W * H

obviously your shape will not fit into this perfectly but if you break it up you can do it.  Take the triangle out of the equation for now and just calculate the large rectangular shape.

Now it has been 15 yrs since I took a geometry class so I cannot remember what the formula is for volume of a triangle but I am willing to bet if you did a search for"volume of a triangle" you could come up with the formula quicker then if you were to type a responce telling us some lame excuse of why you can't do it that means nothing more then you are too lazy.  This is not your high school, we are not required to teach you anything but we have given you the tools to do this.  We are not being mean to you so do not start crying about it(there is no crying in baseball or MF!).  Commin on here is like asking your big brother for help he will point you in the right direction, give you the tools and then try to stop you just before you cut your arm off.  I have another site that is a little more similar to asking your sister and if you want to try that I can give you the link.

http://clubknowledge.com/ (look in the audio forum)

Once you have the volume of the triangle you will need to add it to the volume of the rectangle that you figured earlier.  it really is not as hard as you think it is.

Ok I think I got it. Box dimensions: 34x10x11x.75=1.518
                 Triangle dimensions: 34x5x5x.75=.115
                Total Interior Volume: 1.633

Sound about right?

Is it better to have my subs face the front of the car, or face the trunk opening? Which would sound better with less rattle?

How would I calculate the volume for a box like this. Front of box Height: 16.5", Width 31", Top Depth: 12.75", Bottom would have two pieces. Front piece 10.625", Back bottom piece 3.5". Back of box:11.5" It looks like this except twice as wide for my 2 subs.

It is quite simply a box and then a triangular piece. Take the total area from the side and then multiply it by the depth. If you have forgotten 5th grade geometery here you go.

You have a box on the side that is 10" by 11.25". L x W = 112.5 in^2
You also have a triangle and based on your crappy dimension selection you would calculate that area like this.

c = 9.625"
b = 14.875"-10' = 4.875"
c^2 = a^2 + b^2
a^2 = c^2 - b^2 = 9.625^2 -4.875^2 = 92.64 - 23.77 = 68.87
sqrt(68.87) = 8.3

Area of a triangle = (b x h)/2 = (a x b)/2 = (8.3 x 4.875)/2 = 20.23 in^2

Total area = 20.23 + 112.5 = 132.73 in^2
Depth = 15.5" - 1.5"(thickness of wood) = 14"

Volume = A x D = 132.73*14 = 1858.22 in^3

1728 in^3 = 1 ft^3

so roughly 1.08 cubic feet.

sorry I have been busy finishing my system, where we at with this now?

1.08 is a little  big for a 10, you will need to cut it down a bit.

Buy the custom made box by the seller in Ebay...If u wanna go cheap and make the box, then u are PROBABLY gonna go cheap with the system itself. My 2 kicker amps, boston rears, infinity fronts, avic d3 deck,  Jl Audio subs,and 10 farad capacitor cost me LOTS of money, and i do my searches for best prices online and retail. I pulled the spare tire out of the trunk and had the capacitor mounted in there(unfortunetely u cant see the amazing light show, but its a damn good place for the capacitor). Also i disconnected the crappy sub amp in front because it was POPPING when i turned my car on. Basically, u get what u pay for, i recommend BUYING your box unless u really think u can make it. I bought my box online and got it shipped for 140 bucks, and it came carpeted and fit perfectly..........................

you pulled your spare tire for a cap?  That is the funniest thing I have ever heard of.....  I am trying to find some kind of analogy and I am speachless, give me a minute.

Ok, got one:
It would be like throwing out your in canteen in exchange for a bag of potatoe chips before heading for a trek into the desert.........

it is too bad that you are missing the light show as that is all that cap is good for....

Well I really want to try and build the box myself. Just because I haven't done it before and love  a a challenge. I suck at woodworking so I will go thru alot of wood by the time I get the sub box right. I'm a perfectionist so I don't want some ****ty square box. I think I am gonna use the dimensions I posted earlier just double the width for my 2 10's. I will get the 1.6 cu ft needed by my subs by making the boxes wider. It should work.

Penance I already have my system bought. I just need to build a box and I'm good to go. I just keep changing my mind how I want the sub box to look. By the time I'm done I'm sure it will be crooked and look like $hit.  I'm sure it will blow itself up too, because I forgot to seal it or put the right screws in it or something. Every time I work on my car, something goes wrong. It never fails. But I did install my alarm remote-start pretty easily,I even bypassed my clutch so it would work. Hopefully I will make up my mind and just build a box, that fits in the trunk and looks good. How you doing ttocs. Later man.

using the dimensions you gave for the pic above it is for 1 sub and too big at >1 cu ft per speaker.  Not even kickers like that big of a box.

oh good, you bypassed your clutch.  Nuetral safety?

Well my subs need .8 cu ft per sub or 1.6 cu ft. together. But it can be bigger. I'm sure I won't notice any difference if its 1.08 cu ft per chamber or 2.16 cu. ft together. I just want clean clear bass.To be honest I don't even listen to music that loud anymore. I find it annoying at my age. I can't stand younger kids bumping their sytem so loud. Makes me want to break thier windows with a bat. Ttocs you know Mustangs don't have a neutral safety switch, So of course I bypassed it. TTocs do you got any ideas on a box like that shape that would give me the right cu ft. per sub and fit in my tight small trunk. Thanks

going from .8 to >1.0 is a 20% difference.....  you need to make the box 20% smaller.  I am pretty sure we have covered the fact that I am not going to do this for you, maybe preal has the time and patients to do it but not me.

please promise me you will post a pic of your car hangin out of the garage or what-ever other solid object it hits/breaks when you remote start it in gear.  I know I know you never leave it in gear and you leave the parking break on but I promise you that one day your girl will throw it in gear and the break will not stop that high torque starter, you will be lucky if it slows it down at all.  I do not want to see pics of any children ran over and crushed, if that happens your mug shot will do just fine.  My truck did not have a safety switch so I added one and would not ever consider a remote start on a stick with out one....  Just not a good idea at all.

Well even if my car does move forward, it will only jump a curb and go into some bushes and stop. No kids live near me so I'm not worried about them. Besides I live in Sunny FL and never use my r/s. I've used it once to test it and thats it. I also added extra safety features to the r/s so it won't start in gear. It's to complicated to explain to you so I'll leave it at that.

Anyways with  the box. I think I will make it 34" wide, 13" tall in front, 10" tall in back, and angle the bottom. That should put me close enough to my 1.6 cu ft., plus I'm gonna add a divider so that will take away some of the int. vol. space.

I want to see pics of the box construction too!!!

A perfectionist that is building his own box that can't do a basic volume calculation is going to interesting!!! LOL, JK

It will be interesting preal. Since I will probably just borrow someone elses design and use their measurements for my box. Then I will measure it and cut it and glue it and screw it all together. Then make sure it fits in my trunk and hook up my 2 amps, and be happy from that point on.

humor me, I love to hear how people go around the safety devices in their cars.  I don't think you will go over my head.

a remote start shouldnt even work in a 5spd cause you cant start the car w/o pushing in the cutch. kinda common sense there bud.

and you'd better add a divider and make sure it seals otherwise your subs will sound like ****. you should never run multiple speakers together in the same sealed airspace.
