View Full Version : UPDATED: FRPP Exhaust Videos
ODDYSEY 01-10-2008, 02:21 AM Well I installed my FRPP V6 dual exhaust kit (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=9910) tonight.
The 90% of the install was a breeze. The bumper cutout was easy, and you dont even need to be real maticulous with cutting because it has some cool metal flanges to put over the cut outs. But a few things to note about the whole thing.
1.) You have to cut out both sides of your bumper. The exhaust has 4" tips, so in order for the flanges to fit, you have to cut out your factory hole larger to fit the flange. No biggie.
2.) The mufflers sound great, but I think they need some time to break in, in clip when the engine is rev'd you can hear how it sounds like it is sucking back in.
3.) Midpipes. Wow. Hardest part of the entire install was trying to get the midpipes over the axle. Normally it wouldn't be an issue except for the fact if you are doing it in your garage like I was, you dont have alot of room. I had to put my car on 4 jackstands, pretty high up and put the car in neutral so you can turn the driveshaft. Without the driveshaft being able to turn, you can squeeze the midpipes into place. Unless you have a lift, it will be difficult.
4.) Installing the x-pipe was a cakewalk. It says to give yourself 1.5 inches when you cut, I would recommend 1.75 inches, at least no less than 1.5.
Overall i love how it sounds, I like the look also. I think it will sound 10 times better once they break in, but sounds great now. Keep in mind when I installed my GT take off, it took a good 1-2 thousand miles before it really started sounding good, so I am anticipating these will sound better and better everyday.
Ok sound clip, It is 1am and I am exhausted, my wife was reving the engine and it pitch black outside so don't complain about the video, its a crappy vid with crappy sound, but you can hear it. Anyway I am going to bed, I will post pictures and better video soon.

Yes that is true, I was listening to it alot on the way to work this morning, and it's going to sound awesome when they are broken in. My only complaint is I have a little vibration/rattle if accelerating slowly, but I think its because one of my mufflers is touching the metal flange you are suppose to install.
MrSandman 01-10-2008, 10:51 AM Great! Mine came in yesterday.. but can't have them installed until next Thursday ;(

ODDYSEY 01-10-2008, 10:57 AM Yea you are going to love it. I will post pictures of it tonight as soon as I get home from work, since I didn't have daylight after I was done last night.
One thing I was thining of though, my drivers sidemuffler was down a little and my passenger side muffler was up a little, I think because they send you different muffler hangers than the factory ones, I am going to switch one factory and one aftermarket muffler clamp and see if that balances them out. I will let you know.
project85 01-10-2008, 11:06 AM How much louder compared to GT take off?
More videos plz [sm=smiley20.gif]
powerband 01-10-2008, 11:08 AM They actually sound very good in the video.
Very good tone and aggressive.
Thanks for the write-up and the video.
Enjoy! I'll get mine in the future...

I will get more video tonight after work. The best way I could possibly describe how much difference it was to go from a single GT take off to this setup, is that the single GT take-off sounded like a good movie but sound playing from your TV. While these sound like a good movie playing through your surround sound. It just sounds "fuller" and better quality.
You will love it.
MrSandman 01-10-2008, 12:19 PM Is there any drone on the highway?

ODDYSEY 01-10-2008, 12:30 PM None, it sounds really good on the highway. The only thing was that vibration/rattle (sounds close to drone) but like I said, I actually think that is my one muffler resting against the metal flange on the bumper. I will check it tonight.
tdaddy 01-10-2008, 04:08 PM I applaud you sir, you are the first to put up a sound clip of ffrp duals (I think).[sm=smiley32.gif] I've been waiting forever to hear what they sound like, thanks a bunch!
Rdot9 01-10-2008, 04:13 PM sounds real nice, about how long did the install take you?

Honestly I was scared to death to cut my y-pipe off the car and the rear bumper out. But I read, re-read, and triple read the directions and followed them to a T and I breezed through the install.
If it wasn't for the fact I didn't jack my car up high enough to get the mid-pipes over the axle I would have been done in 2 hours. But it took me rough 3-4 hours to do the whole thing from start to finish, and that was including taking my car down and rejacking back up higher on jack stands.
Nice job, I had a big box sitting on my porch when I got home for the same kit. Those tips on the GTAs do look nice, big, but nice. I don't know if I will install it right away or wait untill I get the CS rear fascia delivered, painted, and installed. Lets see some pics?
apbt426 01-10-2008, 06:32 PM your gonna love them.... i have my Single FRPP muff for about a week now and i love it... the duals gotta sound even more sick... enjoy
ODDYSEY 01-10-2008, 07:03 PM Ok here are pictures. Car is dirty, but im still tired from the install so :P

Full Throttle 01-10-2008, 08:30 PM they sure do look good I can't wait for this install
project85 01-11-2008, 02:05 AM I really like the proper recording of the exhaust...
standing couple feet away unlike 90% of youtubes recordings inches away from the tip
xyster 01-11-2008, 06:49 AM I'm in love with those duals... they look soooo niccceee and sound soooo niccceeee. 50 state drive-by-legal LMAO... I think I might start saving up for those instead of the dual MRT Aeroturbines...
xyster 01-11-2008, 06:59 AM Forgot to ask... Where did you order them from and for how much was the final selling price? I see them by themselves for around $350-$400 for the duals alone without the pipework. With the pipes around $600-$700. Is this correct? Or are there cheaper prices somewhere I haven't checked?
They look really good, Matt! Good 'effin job! :-)

I paid $580 with tax it came out to $620ish? There is a local dealer here in Houston that is a FRPP approved reseller and they have a shop with tons of FRPP stuff in stock. They had the kit in stock and I walked in and picked it up.
From what I was told, you can pretty much just call your local dealer and find out where the closest motorsports shop is. And thanks guys :)
theresa 01-11-2008, 08:27 AM Looks good Oddysey. Sounds good too ;)
hataap 01-12-2008, 06:46 AM congrats! looks great and they will sound awesome once they break in. Make sure to post another sound clip of what they sound like broken in.
Fallout 01-12-2008, 10:02 AM they sounds pretty good..im not sure if im liking that noise when the rpms are coming down, but maybe its just because they are new or something.
@xyster dont throw out the idea of dual MRTs just yet, my car comes out of the body shop on monday most likely, then hopefully either later that week or early the following week, my exhaust will be going in, and i'll be sure to post up sound clips

Are you talking about the popping sound? I could be wrong, but I think it's because the mufflers are new.
Favre4TD 01-12-2008, 11:50 AM the popping sound is becauseits cold, unspent fuel or something, once the cargets warm it goes away
Fallout 01-12-2008, 12:15 PM no, infact this clip only has a split second of popping, im referring to something that almost sounds like a rattle, but only when the rpms are coming down.
it could just be me, i dunno..im just super picky when it comes to exhaust. but this setup does seem to be one of the better sounding systems for the 4.0
BWfVA 01-12-2008, 01:32 PM Have many hours of driving do you have on them, Do they sound much better now that they are getting broke in

It wa a rattle, the metal fascia covers that came with the exhaust were touching on one side causing it to rattle/vibrate. It sounds MUCH better now that I have put some miles on it and fixed the rattle. I will take another video sound clip this weekend and post it.
VictoriaRR 01-12-2008, 11:28 PM Wow! Those look and sound nice! Good job!
I'd love to get that setup.
ODDYSEY 01-13-2008, 06:29 PM Ok, I finally had a chance to get an updated sound clip of my exhaust. This is after I fixed the rattle from the metal flange touching the muffler and they have had a couple of hundred miles of break-in. I think it sounds better.
FRPP V6 Dual Exhaust sound clip #2 (http://www.aeon365.com/uploads/frpp_clip2.avi)
I figure after few more hundred miles on the exhaust they will get a little deeper, but they are sounding great right now and should get even better.
MrSandman 01-13-2008, 06:45 PM Sounds great! You get a much better idea with this clip. Sound damn good at idle. I can't wait!

MrSandman 01-17-2008, 07:56 PM Just got back from the install... man do those tips look good. The shop did a great job getting everything straight.
Sounds really good at idle.. and almost no noise inside.. Keep in mind that I am used to the MAC..
If you want really loud.. this is not for you.
If you want a "refined" sound that is actually pretty close to a GT.. with 0 drone.. this kit is perfect!
I'll post pics tomorrow. The black cutout covers on the black car looks great too.
Also... steeda sport springs made a big difference in appearance too... and I was really happy with the ride quality.
tmsmith 01-17-2008, 08:10 PM Looking forward to some pictures MrSandman.
Also, if you can, some clips would be nice too! Glad it turned out good for you.
I am going to buy the kit pretty soon. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the kit and labor cost you?
MrSandman 01-17-2008, 10:35 PM I paid full price for the kit (price is listed on the website) and $120 for the install. I probably could have saved about $100... but these guys did an outstanding job.. so it was worth it to me. Absolutely no rattles. It's weird hearing my engine again.. with the MAC.. all I could hear at certain RPMs in the car was the exhaust.
Here are some crappy pics in my dirty garage.. it's like 20 degrees right now.. so I'll get better ones tomorrow.

MrSandman 01-18-2008, 11:02 AM Here are some more pics. It might be a day or two before I can get a sound clip.. but the last one posted is representative.. nice and mellow.. and old school raspy when it needs to be.

Also, do you have a GT Takeoff bumper?
MrSandman 01-18-2008, 06:52 PM I really happy with it so far..
it comes with covers for the cut-out sections of the v6 rear bumper.. so no GT rear for me. I actually like the look of the v6 bumper with duals.

powerband 02-24-2008, 04:53 PM Oddysey and Sandman,
Those duals sound great.
I have a Borla single exhaust installed, and I understand it is the same as the FRPP?
In any case, if I want a slightly louder and more aggressive sound, will going dual give me this?
Thanks for a great thread!
MrSandman 02-24-2008, 05:31 PM I really need to find some time to put up another video.. they have changed a little since that day.
It's actually hard for me to describe the way these sound.. but aggressive is definitely a word I would use. They sound very "open" at cruse with a lot of personality. When I say open.. I don't mean open like no muffler.. just free flowing.
The difference between the way a dual sounds and a single.. is basically the difference between listening to music with one speaker and then listening to the same song in stereo. Duals are not necessarily louder.. just more complex.. richer.
I defiantly feel a difference in power on the highway too.

tmsmith 02-24-2008, 05:41 PM I love hearing explinations of these mufflers... and knowing that mine will be here any day now.:D
Give me more details. :) If you get a chance, I wouldn't mind hearing them with some miles on them. ;)
MrSandman 02-24-2008, 06:11 PM Next time I drive out to my parent's house for the weekend, I'll make a video....I'll even throw in a little burnout. :D

Sweet! Look forward to it!
LX200 02-24-2008, 10:03 PM Just got my kit on, sounds great. But, the instructions for the install SUCK. Worst instructions I have ever seen, ever. And I like little touches like two extra clamps so you are never sure which clamps to use where. And instructions that tell you to mount the two driver side muffler support brackets, but then only supply two bolts to do this instead of the required four (the packing sheet even says two hangers, two bolts.... DUH.... two bolts each means four bolts needed, morons).
ODDYSEY 02-25-2008, 08:51 AM The part I was worried about most was cutting the Y-pipe, but believe it or not that seems to be one of the easier parts. And yea I was confused about the clamps too, I ended up using the one that came with the x-pipe because it seems to fit the pipes better and that is why they probably put them in the box.
And you are right Sandman, the exhaust sounds amazing now that it is broke in, hard to explain but it just sounds right for a V6. I don't think you could get a better sound without going to a V8.
Slvrrr 02-26-2008, 05:51 AM Oddysey, thanks for all of the time you took with this thread! Your duals sound fantastic. I just ordered my own set, based off of this thread. Can't wait to get them on!!
powerband 02-26-2008, 11:21 AM If I ever go dual, which I'm certain I will, the FRPP will be the choice.
This thread has been influential in this decision.
Thanks Oddysey and Sandman.
edgespeeder06 03-13-2008, 06:31 PM sounds great, i wonder how the dual mrts would sound with that kit and the xpipe. anyone have that done? i have one mrt and that thing is loud!
tmsmith 03-16-2008, 06:03 PM Got the exhaust put on yesterday and wow it sounds gooood.
I got a video and a few pictures. The Mustang is a little dirty though. :( I'll have to wash her up tomorrow and post better pictures, but they will do for now.
Pictures and videos up sometime today! :D
themac5150 03-16-2008, 07:33 PM Just so everyone out there that buys this kit and installs it themselves. The kit only comes with 2 hangerbolts, but you'll need 4 for the 2 new hangers. Take the bolts from the front stock hanger that you will not use with the kit mufflers. Voila! There's your extra bolts! I hope everyone out there that put on an aftermarket single before going duals, saved their hardware.
MrSandman 03-16-2008, 07:43 PM So.. where's your exhaust clip/video.. ? We want to hear yours too..

tmsmith 03-17-2008, 12:05 AM They are by far not the best videos considering I was at my girlfriends house, and in a neighborhood (as you can tell). So don't give me hell about driving like that through it.[:@] I already didn't want to punch it, but my girlfriend is the one who has the camera so I have to do with what I got.:(
The first one I couldn't rev it cause the next door neighbors were outside with kids, getting ready to go to church. The second one was when most of everyone was at church on the street so I hope they were all gone. :D
They lost quality when I ran them through Windows Movie Maker but I had to shrink them. And I don't have to tell you that they sound MUCH better in person. :) I don't know how many times I had to tell my friends that its a V6. ;) And you know I love it every time I correct them.

awsomeaussies206 03-17-2008, 03:25 PM If I could get the full exhaust for 449.00 shipped... I know thats a good deal. But before I buy it has anyone seen it for cheaper?
tmsmith 03-17-2008, 08:01 PM Thats the cheapest I have heard... Bought mine for 550~ + 80 shipping. Better grab that deal up where ever it is!
Just got back from the guy who installed my mufflers. Seems we have gotten the rattles all out and its sounding great. I've put around 300 miles on it already from Saturday and they sound better every day.
Also, another thing I want to add. I saw a lot of people talking about how restrictive the stock muffler is, and expect a MPG increase. Well, I'm here to tell you, I experienced a 6-7 average MPG increase. I was amazed! Looks like the exhaust will pay for itself over time now with the way the gas rpcies are increasing! :D
slackerkk 03-17-2008, 08:19 PM tmsmith what was rattling and what did they do? Because i have a driver side rattle and think it's the hanger but haven't figured it out yet, i actually have a thread on it as well but haven't figured it out yet. granted the exhaust is only a day old.

That was my exact problem as well. Honestly, it would be really hard for me to tell you what it was or how to fix it. I am not very car savvy and I would explain it like, "its the non-shiney metal part that was hitting the thingy. You have to cut THAT thingy off."
I'll shoot him an email or ask him when I hear from him if he could write up a little note with the things he did. No promises though. :(

edgespeeder06 03-17-2008, 11:40 PM thanks! i was considering getting the gt/cs rear bumper but too overpriced everywhere i checked so i might just cut out my v6 one or get a gt one
i will do, ive been trying to get that company listed in my club's forum so that we could possibly get discounts to it since its like a state away from us but haven't heard back
awsomeaussies206 03-17-2008, 11:46 PM My bad... I don't think the 449.00 was for the complete Ford system. It comes with the mufflers... but I think there different head pipes.[:@] This is what I was looking at

I had a 10 percent off coupon that would have dropped it down to 449.00. But I don't really think this is the right system.
edgespeeder06 03-17-2008, 11:48 PM ahh okay yeah thats the y-pipe version the xpipe one... still not bad i guess i want the xpipe since its 50 state legal too

MrSandman 03-21-2008, 11:28 AM I concur. Now that it's warm enough to roll the windows down a little... I am getting a much better appreciation of how nice this setup sounds.

tmsmith 03-21-2008, 11:46 AM Had mine for maybe a week and I still can't get over that its a V6.
I can't count how many people ask me whats under the hood. In fact, I'm at work today and one of my co workers asked to hear it because he just bought a V6. Looks like I conviced another fellow Stang to get it. :D

edgespeeder06 03-22-2008, 11:34 AM anyone know if u get free shipping, i believe u do over $600 or so, im not sure, confirmation please
tmsmith 03-22-2008, 04:55 PM Free shipping but you have to pay over weight charges or whatever they call it. Most people paid $30 but for some reason I have to pay $80. I demanded a reason but he just said thats what everyone pays... It was a little shady and bull ****.
edgespeeder06 03-22-2008, 06:06 PM yeah that sucks, that'll bring it back to $600, i can get it from toms river for that price and maybe have them install it for a discounted price since i'll buy the part from them and have to drive 1 hour or more to that dealer lol......i'll see

No bull$h*t? If that's true it's amazing. Where do you do most of your driving (city/highway)? I took about a 40 mile drive on the Garden State Parkway today and reset my mpg gauge just for s's and g's, and I got 26 mpg on cruise control at 70mph...my best economical accomplishment with this car thus far lol

Sounds nice man. I love this exhaust system. :)
LX200 03-22-2008, 10:27 PM I am really happy with the X pipe and the whole FRPP setup. I think is sounds really great when it idles, and under power... especially with the XCharger...
placebo4565 03-23-2008, 12:59 AM I am on the verge of getting the FRPP's but am still wondering if Flowmasters would deliver a deeper muscle car sounding tone than the FRPP's. Do the FRPP's have that same deep tone but are just higher in quality and just not as crackly as the flowmasters would be? Or I guess any advice on the compare/contrast between the two would be really useful, thanks in advance.
edgespeeder06 03-23-2008, 01:01 AM i would personally try the frrp kit and then switch the exhaust set up to something else to see the difference and then just swap out the set that you dont want and sell it, like im going to do
LX200 03-23-2008, 02:01 AM The FRPP setup sounds deep and muscular, but is not overly noisy and not overly fart-cannish. Many of the loud muffler setups people put on V6's are just fart cans. You can't make a V6 sound like a V8. The harder you try, the more you end up with loud fart cans.
edgespeeder06 03-23-2008, 07:23 AM yeah i agree, but a single mrt with stock pipes sound pretty loud, so image, two with a xpipe and or an off road xpipe.....it will sound pretty loud and not ricey.
awsomeaussies206 03-25-2008, 12:24 PM Just curious as to the difference between these setups... The full Ford exhaust or this one...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dual-Exhaust-Kit-with-FRPP-GTA-Axle-back-2005-Mustang_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQihZ019QQ itemZ290214833186QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Ninosport told me they would sound the same... but would it still give you the same performance and still open up the car?
ODDYSEY 03-25-2008, 01:24 PM They definitely would not sound the same. One is a true dual exhaust (the FRPP) the one ninosport sells is just a split Y pipe, with some GTA's. And for $500 bucks, why not get the FRPP true V6 dual exhaust that Ford makes?
awsomeaussies206 03-25-2008, 02:02 PM ^ Thanks, I didn't think what they told me sounded right. For a $100 price difference, might as well do it right!

I would not hold your breath on that 6-7mpg increase. Anything you do to increase your gas mileage usually gives your car more power which means you drive faster which in turns lowers your gas mileage :)
I know I "could" get 5-7 mpg more than I am now, but I choose to drive my car more aggressive and my mpg hurts because of it :)
DarkHorse07 05-08-2008, 04:44 PM yeah thats true, after the intake and tune i found it a little harder get off the pedal especially in third..haha

I didn't know if the GT cutouts were the same size as the V6 and if they would fit the FRPP's.
Thanks for the info

Spaunen 07-22-2008, 01:22 AM I'm probably buying the ninosport kit that comes with the dual gta's. I called my ford dealer up and they no longer have the gta's in their v6 kit they have gtb's which are off the bullit. Would the ninosport sound like crap with the GTA's? Theres a video on youtube with a guy who has the ninosport kit and the gta's and his stang sounds amazing.
