My family has owned five II's over the years. My favorite by far was a 1976 MPG model that my parents bought new. It was two-tone with white top and red bottom and red interior. It was, of course, a 2.3 with automatic. I know it must have been sloooooow, but I didn't care about that. I thought it looked cool!

My parents gave the car to my aunt around 1980 and I have no idea what ever happened to it. Does anyone know of any way to locate a vehicle after this much time has passed? I know it's a tremendous long shot, but I'd love to find that car.

you'd probably have to have the vin number, which you may be able to find from old registration records if your local area keeps stuff that long.

Yeah. I have a few places I can check. We had the car in Louisville, Kentucky and Greenville, South Carolina. My aunt had it in Virginia. I'm assuming it's still there. It may be in a junkyard rusting away, but it's probably there somewhere.

My '78 II had the 4-cyl with an auto. I don't know if it was just because it was so slow and I always tried to keep up with the 35mph traffic, but I couldn't get much more than 20mpg out of it. Not even on a 55mph highway.

If you want another one, I would suggest using a modern 2.3L engine with fuel injection and a little more power at the very least. Running with today's cars, the original setup is a little dangerous.

The car I mentioned in the original post was my parent's car. When I was in college I had a '74 with the 2.3 auto and got 26 or so with it. It was definitely slow, but if I do get another one it won't be something that I drive on a regular basis, so I'm not too concerned about it.

my 78 with the 6 was getting 24 in the city before I threw it up on jacks..good luck on the search, but it maybe a soda can now..

That's my guess. My aunt has no idea what happened to it and doesn't live in the same state anymore. I'll probably end up finding one that looks like it or finding one and making it look like it.
