Too many people are hooked on Civics, little do they realize most of the cars on the road weigh 3100lbs or more. No one takes into account that there Mustang GT weighs only 150-200lbs less. 100 horsepower eaisly makes up for that. It's kinda like those who say the 99-04 GT weighs so much less than a 98-02 F-Body.....

FWIW if GTOs have ****ty launching then what do you call F-Bodys launches?? I see far more GTO cars with 2.0 or better 60fts than I do solid axle F-Body cars.

ORIGINAL: scg87 I personally LOVE GTO's. I love their clean, understated looks, and their interior is one of the nicest you will ever see in ANY GM car. They're good all around cars. Pretty good mileage. Decent handling. And tons of aftermarket support. I really don't see what there is to dislike about them, apart from possibly styling, which is subjective anyway..... Like most I think they look like turds. A muscle car wannabe that won't give-up its Family sedan roots. Still like them better than Magnums though....can't stand a wagon/muscle car. Weak!

Got my 2006 premium gt for $25,600, the gto didn't sticker for $30,000. I feel sorry for the gto owners that paid sticker. I'm 7 years older than you and I don't like the gto, but there are a lot of kids on here that own new mustang gt's so i'm not going to dwell on your statement. The rear end on the gto's is weak and gm won't even work on it, LOL! If you want to swap gears on a gto, it will cost you a pretty penny assuming you can find someone willing to do it. Some serious gto drag racers have swapped in a solid rear axle, same goes for cobra owners. I don't need to drive the gto to not like it, i just don't like it and adding scoops to the hood didn't help it. Just look at it. I don't know what I hate more, the grand am front end or the huge side window. quote:
ORIGINAL: c6z51 Truthfully I cannot see why so many Mustang kids hate the GTO. If you go sit in a S197 then a GTO then drive both how can you dislike the GTO? I will admit though the 2004 was a bit bland vs the 2005-2006. The pricing might have been a factor also $27,000 vs $30,000 but then again alot of premium GT's went for $30,000 and many red tagged 2006 GTO's were less than $26,000. In the end my GTO ended up just like my 2003 GT, it was clear that it was only going to be great at one thing and only good at others.

Actually most GTO owners upgrade to a Diff Techs assembly. Adding a solid axle to a GTO would be a headache and very expensive.

I like them. I took an 06 for a test drive with a dealer installed SLP performance package and that baby was quick! I honestly think it was faster than the C6 coupe & ragtop I test drove!

Is your assmeter within calibration specs? The maost powerfull SLP package is the Bobcat455 and a base C6 would still lay waste to one of those. Now if it had the brand new SLP head/cam package I would belive that.

But that still your point of view, for the record i paid $ 16k for my gto with 30k miles on it. If everyone would have the same point of view as yours, then this world would suck. Looks is subjective imao so we dont take your opinion as objective or a fact. Let me put it this way. You like the mustang and u bought it, it works the same way for gto owners. I ve heard many times the new mustang gt is ugly as sin, do i think its true of course not, but that was their opinion.

ORIGINAL: c6z51 What to many of you fail to realize is that the 2004-2006 GTO has been alive as the Holden Monaro since 1998 in Europe/Austrailia. Over there they have everything from a 3.8 Litre to a stock Harrop S/C VXR model. Incorrect, the Monaro started production in 2002. It wasn't in the UK right away either. They had a v6 model for two years. There was never a Holden Supercharged VXR. That was the '06 -- and in the UK only What they did leave in Europe however was the cars original sport handling suspension the American GTO was a sport/touring car here. With this decision softer springs from the sedans were installed and soft bushings were added. True, but they found it didn't negatively impact the handling at all, it still pushed .89 G's stock. As for weak points: - The driveshaft is a two piece design that utilizes rubber u-joints - Wrong again, no U-Joints. - It's rear end left a little to be desired you know quiet operation and stuff like that Strong, but occasional gear whine issues. - Like all IRS cars the axles become a weak point with added power - Wrong, there are plenty of stock axle cars running really fast numbers. - The front suspension suffers from crap sturt and radius rod bushings '06 There was a small recall, due to a manufacturer change for the front struts.

I think so It had SLP headers, and full exhaust...and intake, pretty sticky tires but I don't recall the brand, and I'm not sure about the cams. Lets put it this way, it's one of the only cars that scared me it was so fast! The vette was fast, but the GTO was noticeably faster! It definitely wouldn't lay waste to it! that's just being a fanboy

alright lets put it like this, the new GTO wasnt truely designed from the bottom up but when i first saw it back in 05 or so i loved it. the new GTO may look like this or that but face is, it is a very well put together car IMO the powertrain and drivetrain are great. the interior is truely the best part of the car, i honestly would not mind having one as a dailey driver because its interior and seats are tons better than my 01 GT. the weight is one thing but the car has it for a reason and its not a bad one, also its 400ft.lbs of torque *LS2* moves it very well.
