BabyBlue, the noises you are hearing is exactly what Vfast was talking about. You need to either do 1 of 2 things: grease the upper control arm bushings or replace the bushings. If you're going to do the V-8 conversion, you'll have to change the front end parts to V-8 anyway, so that will eliminate the squeaks. I personally like my six(it's a 170 in my 64-1/2). Better gas milage is a big plus. If you want to pep up the six, try going to Clifford Performance. They have all kinds of "goodies" to make a six as peppy as a V-8. You state you "lack the necessary skill level" to perform the mods, hey we all started somewhere. The best way is to ask questions, and read up on the subjects. Most vendors sell books on restoring our cars and a factory shop manual is priceless. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and have fun!
