Changing wheel sizes, what should I be aware of?
I have been lurking around for while and have been able topull a lot of valuable info from this forum so I figured that I should finally join to get some more of your guys' expertise. Anywho, my question is:
I have an 88 2.3L Hatchback that I am looking to get some newwheels for. I have found a good deal on some Pony Wheels and am wondering what I need to be aware of when changing wheel sizes. I have the stock 14" and am wondering what the difference will be.I measured my brothers255's on his GT and found that they are about1/2"larger. Is this goingto create much of a difference? Also by going to a larger wheel size am I going to lose any hp? Obviously I need all that I have so I cannot stand to lose much. Right now the Pony Wheels are running 245/50/16 on the front and 255/50/16 on the back. I have found mixed results around the forum as to whether or not these will rub or not. They are coming off of an 87 notch so I am guessing that they would fit my hatchback, am I correct on that assumption? I obviously do not need Z rated tires ortires that are too wide so I was thinking of going with either 225's or 235's when these wear out. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
