Exhaust Help 911 !

Well to ring in the New Year, I went and got a pair of cutouts installed.
Where I went wrong was taking the opinion of the exhaust guy installing them.
He convinced me to remove my reverse Y set up to TRUE DUAL set up, which means no crossover, one pipe for the left, one pipe for the right.

Welded up beautifully... Started up horribly! RICE CITY

Sounded like complete ass driving home..

When I got home I opened up the cut outs, and they sound sick nasty (GOOD!).. But the resonance in the cabin is UNBELIEVEABLE!

Anyway, I need some help here! I'm definately going back to get my exhaust sounding right!
Should I get an H pipe welded in, X pipe, go back to factory Y?

I'm not looking for LOUD out of the mufflers, thats what the cutouts are for.
I'm just wanting a nice deep rumble throughout the RPM band.

If you used JBA mufflers, I can understand why it would sound ricey. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they are fine mufflers, but if you're going with straight pipes, you want something more conservative. Aftermarket brands tend to have bigger diameters which allow for more airflow, meaning more resonance, meaning more RICE-sound. I have GT takeoffs on mine and they're great. Sounds amazing at startup and pretty good across the RPM band. I'd say a tiny bit throaty at 4k but not ricey, though, even then and I go to school in Pennsylvania and if you've ever been there, you know it's probably only second to Cali as rice capital of North America. This definitely is NOT a rice setup. Straight pipes are workable, if you're willing to work around with them. If you're keeping those mufflers, an H pipe I would say is probably easier for them to install and would probably give you more of the sound that I think you're going for but an X is supposedly better for forced induction. Whether or not that's true or to what extent, I have no idea, I'm not a mechanic. Keep your cats on for sure and either add the crossover pipe or change out the mufflers and you should be good to go. I'm sure the place you brought it to will probably work something out if you say you don't like it. Most places want to know that their stuff sounds the way people want it to and practice is always good for them. I was told that if I didn't like the straight pipes on mine that they would throw the H on for $80. They never got a call from me. go with an xpipe and stock gt mufflers. the cutouts will allow you to vary the sound level output. if you have electric cutouts you could mount them at the muffler inlets and point them to the outside. that would cutdown some of the interior resonance. you could also install a pair of glasspacks off the xpipe to clean up the sound without impacting performance.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I'm going back Thursday and look at my options/prices.
I would consider changing out mufflers, if I didn't buy my JBA's only
a few months ago. But I think so far the cheapest route will be welding in
an H connection. I don't want to spend more on this exhaust system than
I have to, 4.10s and a T-lok are on the way!

Just to update!!

Got a an H connection welded in...

Sounds great with the cutouts closed now!
Quite a bit deeper and louder than the reverse Y I had.
