This is probably old news. But I just came across a very funny negative review of the 2005 Mustang GT. It's from Forbes Magazine.
Here's a snippet:
"The Mustang is, of course, a sports car, and its secret lies in offering high horsepower for comparatively low money, but at the expense of sophistication and, in our opinion, the driver's dignity."
I love those "sophisticated" editors....I drive a Lexus E7niner, drink red wine, and wear Drior jeans with a cute Ralph Lauren sweater vest. (Not to mention I have to ask my wife if its ok to masturbate). I think the Governator put it best....GIRLY MEN

Couldn't agree more Mike!
On the next page he quotes this "...the power's delivery often feeling brutal." No sh*t sherlock, it's a V8 mustang. What a PUSSY!
He needs to go clothes shopping in his "Lexus made by Toyota Motor Company" aka japenese sh*t bucket company, then go have a cup of tea with his boyfriends. Then he shall conclude his day with a round of putt putt at the local country club. Then he shall go home and 'attempt' to have lame sex with his plastic doll wife.
This review pi$$es me off. I would love to shove him in my "ugly crimson" passenger seat and take him for a real ride, pansy. He probably didn't even take it past 3500 rpms... I can just see him curling up in a little ball whining like a little girl.

I had a good belly laugh when I read "We feel the design of the new Mustang is not as successful a resuscitation of a brand name as that of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler 300 sedan. The 300 is a sharp, bold, modern revival of an old name, and it bears contemporary significance. The new Mustang, in comparison, is a trip down memory lane." When comparing 1st year sales numbers, the new Mustang blew the Chrysler 300 right out of the water. Also, I'm sure everyone remembers the GM fiasco when they tried to revive a brand name from the past(GTO) by going with a contemporary look. I bet that a new Mustang probably blew the doors off the author's $50K set of wheels before he wrote that article.

hmm in 06 was the base price of a gt 31k? i know for my model year it starts at 25k right? hmm..... maybe fully loaded 31k? i think he needed to double check his facts..
oh... not to forget.. he does compare it to a 4 door sedan with 272 hp that baseline msrp is 35k thats 10k more than the mustang gt... why not just compare the gt to a corvette? blah blah who would buy a gt when you can just buy a corvette lol. what a tool.

Other than the comment about the red interiors, that reviewer was pretty obviously NOT into muscle cars. Yeah, if I wanted a fancy, uber-stylish car with all the creature comforts that I could take to all the coatillians at the country club, a Mustang would not be my choice. I'd by a Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. This guy obviously missed the point of a Mustang: to be loud, brutish, lots of torque and horsepower, and demonically fast. The Mustang has always had a heritage of being a high horsepower car for less money, making it more available to the masses who like to have fun. It's the "People's Muscle Car", in my opinion. This guy was way off-base, and I don't think he really understands what genre the Mustang is intended for.
I'd have to say that Forbes reviewer just doesn't get cars at all. Sounds like he's too concerned with what he looks like.
As far as that high class comment the reviewer made, I've been dragged to a couple "high society" functions, and every time I've parked my Mustang right between two "luxury" vehicles (No valet has EVER been allowed to drive my car), someone always says "nice car."

Who cares!!! like they said in the end they will sell what they make no matter your review. Makes you think how much some companies(imports) pay for a good review.
I get a kick out of people saying the Mustang is a Sports Car.....To me teh Mustang like the Camaro, T/A, Firebirds, Chargers, etc etc. Are Muscle Cars in a Pony Car class not a Sports Car.
When I think Sports Car, I think the Preps at College in their MG's, or Corvettes, with Cashmier Sweaters tied about their necks, (Makes it much easier for the blue collar boys to drag their punk asses to the ground for a lil wake up call). But anywho the article, and writer, contradicts himself quite a bit in that article. Yeah it makes me mad, but then I think of what a butt plug this dude must be, and the stale, fag bags he probably hangs out with, kinda like the tools that don't like Snowboarders at your local resort. And I have to say, I'm glad I'm not one of them.
Well obviously, as many have already stated, this guy is not into the kind of car that the Mustang is designed to be. Since we've already established that fact, there are a few factual points that he tries to make that are VERY misleading.
For roughly the same price ($31,000 base), we could have an infinitely more refined Lexus from Toyota Motor (we could get a Lexus ES 330 or IS 300) or an Acura from Honda Motor (a TL or a TSX or, for $10,000 less, an RSX).
First of all, if you PAY 31k for a lexus, you're getting one that has NO options whatsoever. The base IS is not better equipped than a Mustang. You're looking at 35k at least for a decent IS. Which brings me to my main point...a lexus or acura or even BMW in that price range is NOT A CONVERTIBLE. The regular GT is, what, 25-26k? You want to compare hardtops (which would still be apples to oranges), you're talking about the lexus being 5-6k MORE than a GT. 10k more if you want it well equipped. Oh you want a coupe? Even more. So its not really for "roughly the same price," you're moving up an entire bracket. Not to mention the Lex puts out about 210 hp at the crank. So exactly what similarities are there between a Mustang GT and Lexus IS that would lead a person to compare the two in a serious review?
As far as pricing the Stang at 40k, lets just be thankful that Ford has a little more common sense than this lame, pseudo-intellectual Forbes reviewer. Ford knows who the people interested in mustangs are. The demographic is made up largely of younger people, and unless you were brought up with a silver spoon in your mouth and mommy and daddy are buying you the car for your sweet 16...chances are if you're young, you can't buy a 40k car unless you're really overextending yourself foolishly. So Ford would end up with a fanbase made up of all young people that really like the Mustang but can't buy one. Yeah, I like Ferarri's too, but they're not seeing any income coming from my wallet because I can't afford one.
What Ford does with the Mustang is provide a "dream car" of sorts. The kind of car that guys like me have loved since we were little kids. and then when we grow up and start making a life for ourselves and start earning our own money, we can actually afford that dream car. What a concept! A desirable object that is actually attainable! Isnt that part of the "american dream" to begin with?
Similarly, if the Challenger comes out, and the lowest base price tag is above 30k, no matter how cool the car looks or how well it performs, it will not be a success. Someone shopping around looking for a car in the mid 30-low 40 price range is probably looking for a luxury car, not a young man's fun car. And a rich man looking for a high performance sports car is going to be looking in the much higher price range, probably for an exotic. They're missing the target completely. Ford gets this right with the V6 Mustang, you can drive off the lot with your dream car and you're paying close to what you'd pay for a freakin' Toyota Corolla or 4 cyl Camry. And they sell about 2.5x as many V6's as they do GTs for that reason...people interested in the cars are generally not spoiled rich pansys. And if you want the GT, its still very affordable. What other car can you get with 300 horses for $25 thou? Even the 350z is gonna run you over 30k for a decent version. Yes, Ford has a monopoly right now on high performance for affordable pricing. Why give that up and charge 40 grand? That would be fatal.
If you step into a Mustang to write a review, and you're expecting to be stepping into a luxury car, obviously you won't be happy. Compare it to similar cars--oh wait, I forgot, the Mustang is the only one that survived. Maybe thats because Ford didn't listen to pansy Forbes reviewers. If you want a luxury car thats quiet and comfortable, and power isn't that important to you, and the look of the mustang isn't up your alley, the Lexus is a fine choice. They're nice cars, if thats what you're looking for. If you really want to start comparing, an IS with comparable power to the GT might be the IS 350, which is going to cost you 10-15k more than a hardtop GT. The very foundation of his entire review is so completely ridiculous that I'm awed that a respected publication would print it.

end rant.
Very nice/thought out post. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. I love the threads where you can kindof vent and say exactly whats on your mind.
