Love them or hate them? I normally don't think too much of a cloned saleen mustang and truly am not impressed. Just wondering how do you guys feel when you see a "fake" saleen?

Nothing wrong with that other than it is a FAKE SALEEN!!! Why wouldnt you get the sticker for the bumper its only a couple of bucks? if its not made by saleen its fake.....

Well. I guess you could consider mine a "fake saleen." However, the only way it's not real is that is has no bumper serialization. So to call it fake may be a stretch.

Another thing is...as far as modifications/speed go...in my opinion you can get more out of an engine and have the Saleen look without spending the money they want.

I for one did't have the money, but does that mean I couldtn have the Saleen look and I was out of luck? No, instead I took it into my own hands and bought the things to make it look the same...I saw nothin wrong with doin this.

It's hard enough for me to explain the #11 on my stang since only ten were made, to have a fake serial number would just be plain hate. But as far as side graphix, I would go for it. It'll make people turn and look.

Don't worry Dave.

Saleen NEVER produced a bumper number #06 car EVER. No error on their part. No SA-10 # 6, or SA-20 #6 either. Number 666 showed up in 99 and or 2000, But if you see a number 6 car, it's a fake!

i am considering putting a saleen kit on my car and the stickers on the side, and saleen across the front windshield.. but i think i may try to find a t bar roof fox body and do it to that one instead.. because to me saleens look best, and ive always wanted a t bar roof stang..

There's a reason for that. Try making a steeda clone instead.

I think saleen clone are better because are project cars and can have better modifications than a real saleen have for a better price. Also if they are clone and have all oem saleen parts why not installing saleen decals on it.

There are quite a few of them here where I'm at - but I don't consider them "clones" or "fakes" since they enter them in the 99-03 GT class or street modified class. They have added the bumpers to their cars, which say Saleen by default (molded in) - so its not like the added the word Saleen as a cloning afterthought. I'm sure they added the bumpers and wheels to their projects because they look damn good Now going as far as to put a fake bumper number, dash plaques and such on (including the Saleen windshield decal) - I would call that a clone and have to wonder why.

How many 67 fastbacks have you seen that are either eleanor clones, or GT500 replicas? Almost everyone I have ever seen. To me there is nothing wrong with that. Have you ever seen a Fiero dressed up as a Ferrari? I have. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, it's just what the owner likes. I personally like to see these things, to me they are different, and a part of the owners style and personallity even if it is borrowed. As long as they admit that they have a replica, and not try to pass it off as something else, but I think they are cool. Why would anyone be threatened by this? How insecure do you have to be, they are clones, replicas, fakes as you say. Doesn't hurt anybody. Because I have a shaker does that make me a Mach1? Absolutely not. I just like the style, and to be able to have a functional scoop. Plus remember imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

I couldn't agree more. If you like the look, by all means, go for it! But please don't try to pass it off for what it is not. I would love to own a real 289 AC cobra! But, do you have $400,000 for a real one? I sure as hell don't. I think it would be sweet to have a cobra kit car. If someone who really wasn't into cars asked me if it was real, I wouln't lie.

I get enough crap from people saying my S351 speedster isn't real because I have no dash plaque on the center console. Of course, when I pull the new plaque out of the glove compartment or show them pictures of my car from The Saleen Book they quickly apologize

I have differing opinions on the matter. As a Saleen owner, it is a little unsettling to think that someone would go through great lengths to build their own if there is an agenda of deception behind it. However, I believe most of the "home-built" Saleens out there are harmless products of an admiration for Saleens and a tribute of sorts.

I have a fox body that I would like to install Cobra R rims on. I came to the conclusion that I would rather pay the extra cost to get the factory rims. But, I can certainly understand if somebody would think that I am spending money needlessly and could, instead, buy aftermarket wheels and some genuine center caps.

In summary, I guess I am saying I wouldn't personally build a "fake" but have nothing against those who have or will, providing they do not try to deceive anyone in a sale etc.

That is the KEY statement to the clones/fakes issue right there. As long as its done for the owners personal tastes and not shown or advertised/sold as the real deal - then all is good
