like it says, i want to lose the cats, but i dont want the horrible smell, i did it on a 95 mustang a few months ago and it was terrible, when you pulled up to a stop light it would almost make you pass out and everyone around you was pissed at you, but it sounded awesome and ran like a bat out of hell. even my 71 mustang doesnt smell hardly at all, is there something i can do(get the computer tuned maybe) to make it not smell so bad

my '91 vert is catless and has a side exhaust(will be changed as soon as I can afford it....) I dont notice too terrible of a smell other than an average smoggy smell when at a light with the top down or if its been sitting a while. I still have my smog crap hooked up... so I dunno....

My friend has an 87 with no rubber sift boot, or boot cover. and he has a little exauhst leak where the mids connect to the headers...lol. I literally get high in his car. that carbon monoxide cant be good for me. His car sounds pretty beefy though. But I have the same bbk x-pipe with cats and it sounds exactly the same...so I don't know.
If the cats are not in place there is no way to really reduce emissions to federal standards to avoid the smell.....removing the cats won't reallt affect a/f mixture on your car cause the o/2 sensors are before the cats so there is no real effective way to lean it out unless you had a stand alone tuner to constantly monitor a/f to keep it in safe levels

The only difference I felt was in the pedal. It wasn't really louder but it had more of a rumble to it. If you stood next to my car and I rev'd it to 5k, you would feel it in your chest lol...
It's worth it.. they're cheaper and add horsepower. Right there I'm sold. I obey the laws, but cops let the damn motorcycles haul ass down main roads and then try to ticket me cause my car sounds badass and your jealous..
i didnt smell it until i didnt tighten the mid pipe up all the way and didnt smell it until u looked under the car, then my eyes watered lol
all i did was gut my cats out.

Get a set of hi flow cats. I got a Magnaflow off Ebay for my beater...$55 shipped, IIRC. I have the Prochamber w/o cats on the stang and like the smell, but it's not that much different w/ the stock H on (1st set of cats gutted on the stocker).
I've been thinking about adding cats to the Prochamber just so I don't have to switch mid pipes for inspection. Also, hi flow cats don't hinder performance much at all....MAYBE 5 hp....

Yeah that's true, they did a test and high flow cats vs catless was almost identical.
I've wanted to add cats to my prochamber too, what I wanted to do was buy the arms with the cats built in so i could just bolt them in, they're hard to find for a reasonable price though.
I'm gonna blame it on an exaust leak too. my 93 is catless and my buddies 98 is catless and we don't have a smell, except with my top down at a red light I can smell it a bit. Of course if you have to live with yearly inspections, (we don't in good old SC) you might as well get high flow cats, I don't know much about them but if they are as good as gspfunk and OnyxCobra say then it's the easier choice.
