Is an underdrive pulley worth it? Does it really deliver NOTICEABLE gains of torque and hp?!  I was looking at the price for one and a belt and just was wondering if the money it wanted, actually delivered in return...

Anyone?

*note* Here's a link to the one I was checking out... http://www.stangmods.com/ASP-Underdrive-Pulleys-p/00226-526400.htm

well i think they work but if you ask most people on here theres no bolt on worth the money unless its gears or a power adder(sc/nitrous/turbo). every hp counts no matter how small.

The HP claim is pretty exaggerated... they claim 16HP...  in real life dyno shows about  4 to 6 RWHP gain...   which is no where near 16 HP... more like 8...

I went with the Alt pulley and it was noticable but not "huge" gains. I liked the set I got from Pauls High Performance cheap too.

Alright sounds about what I expected from it. I am just making a "small" list to save up for during the next new year :P

I used to run the PHP alt pulley as well.  It helped a tad.

Noob Question:
Is there any negative effect that an underdrive pulley might have on our cars, like durability, reliability, and increased wear and tear?

They'll make your alternator, air conditioner compressor, power steering pump and water pump operate about 25% slower than their original speeds.  If you have an aftermarket stereo system that increases the electrical load you might have a problem with the alternator not being able to keep up (more so at idle speeds).

Worst case scenario is UDP failure. It might not be common but it happens: http://www.mustangforums.com/m_4435611/tm.htm

I have used them on two cars.  In both instances I have noticed a different.  Was it night and day no.  However, it was more of a difference is both cases then some mods that cost a lot more.
