AOD Transmission

Ok, so I wanted to get a manual tranny set up...but I can't find anything in my area, so I'm lookin at other options. My question, will an AOD set up fit in my car? I figure some extra space will need to be made for the bell housing, but I"m not so much worried about that as I am the length. Will it fit to the drive shaft without having to get that adjusted? The engine I bought has an AOD flywheel on it, so that should fit w/out having to be adjusted. Let me know...Thanks! :-)

your going to need a different driveshaft, a "custom" tranny crossmember, and a sledgehammer to make some clearance between the bellhousing and the firewall. [:)] if you really want overdrive i would look into a 5 speed stick, but for most of us just cruising around town a C4 gets the job done quite nicely. btw, i have a C4 M II bellhousing, block plate, and torque converter - but i dont have any more flexplates

I checked the dimensions on the C4 and the AOD and they are both the samelength...so I take it the output shaft is different? I would like overdrive, and like I said, I really wanted to go manual, but I can't find any reasonable options around here. What about a 4 spd top loader? I've been told you can get them at a reasonable price...I just have yet to see it. :-)

4 speeds dont have overdrive [:)], i was pretty sure there was a length difference but maybe i was wrong. there is something different about the two as far as fitting them in (other than just the firewall clearance)
