blizzaks are your best friend i got mine this year because i moved to a area that has more snow and i love them

junk. there were usless here in SW PA.

i use deep lug winter retreads. they look like truck tires but damn they go through the snow. not all states can run retreads though. they are cheap too at $30/tire

mine have almost identical tread to these

i tried these too and they sucked a$$
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/225-40-18-PIRELLI-WINTER-210-ASIMMETRICO-88H-PORSCHE_W0QQitemZ320214740673QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320214740673

here are blizzaks
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bridgestone-Blizzak-Snow-Tire-WS-50-215-70-R15-Qty-4_W0QQitemZ250212764942QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250212764942

the deep lug winter retreads are the best. blizzaks are good on Ice but have poor snow traction compared to the winter deep lug retreads

i have used these before and they are decent too
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2COOPER-WEATHERMASTER-SNOW-TIRES-235-75R15-S-16_W0QQitemZ290202732191QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290202732191

these are good too and this size will fit on a mustang. they are alittle tall but are almost the same as a 225/60/16 in diameter which fits a stang but alittle big. no rubbing though. this is really a good price too

250 lbs in the trunk is overkill lol..
when i had my 91 lx.. everyone told me to put sand bags in the trunk.. so i went and bought 2x70lb sand bags.. it was too much!  when you locked up or went sideways on bad roads.. the weight just helped to throw it into the ditch!
with my 2000, i dont bother with weight.. save your suspension and rear end.. just invest on some good snow tires.. as long as you have some decent retreads or some studded tires.. you have no worries.

agreed. extra weight is hard on the suspension

Best combination I ever had (on a Fox Mustang) was running narrower tires up front (less contact patch = less snow resistance) and some weight in the rear.  Tread patterns & winter snow/ice tires be d@mned.  With the correct throttle control, I could easily make the rear track with the front or slide out to square up a corner (if necessary).  The common enemy is ice ... no FWD/AWD/traction control is going to save you when you need to slow down.
