Manual

Gives me the feeling of being more in control of the car than an auto.  I've driven too many autos (other people's cars) and thought WTF, why are you shifting into that gear.  And hey, if I want to downshift and punch it.....I can!!!!

Like somebody else said, manuals = you drive the car,  autos = you're along for the ride.  My brother switched to an auto because he got tired of stop and go traffic - not me .  So to each his/her own but I choose manual!

Guess you never hears of the kick down on an auto. Similar to a down shift....wait, it IS the same. Then there's the OD off button. I always thought the acc pedal controlled speed.

Like I said, to each his/her own.... You have your way and I have mine.

Also, Brendend makes a very good point of having an auto due to an injury.  My wife just tore the ligaments in her shoulder and fortunately it was on her left arm because we both have manual cars and if it was her right arm I have no idea how she would have driven.  It's hard enough the way it is.

This is supposed to be about numbers not what you like. We've had these juvenile responses many times before. Some like auto some like stick, so who really cares what someone else thinks about your choice. And for those who aren't aware, both are 5-speeds.

EDIT: OOPs forgot to mention I have an auto and love it... its a great Mustang.

There are four seats (a fully functional back seat!!!) I have seen threads, serious or not, about the 4-door Mustang and peoples worries about that, or displacement on demand engines for that matter ... don't ever forget what Ford did in the 70's to continue on with the pony history. If a four door Mustang was profitable and marketable, Ford would have two doors back there guaranteed. The mustang is comfortably placed in a nice bracket between the four door Mopars and GM's sport car. And Ford did a great job putting a vehicle in the perfect bracket for sales, marketing, et cetera. So, it is fair to say that the Mustang will probably live on, but in the coming years Ford will adjust the performance/appearance/handling of the car to the law's requirements, their great ideas, and public desires/demands.

If you want to drive a "sports" car made by Ford, get yourself into a GT40.

This is a good thread for showing insecurities of some people!

It's actually closer than I thought. I didn't think that many folks would have sprung for the auto at $645. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Auto babay!

stick. I've always thought of an auto tranny as what comes with a rental car, but to each his own. For instance, my grandma loves her auto Oldsmobile...

For those with an auto, how do you launch at the drag strip? Do you bring the revs up and then just drop it into drive or do you just floor it when the lights change?

One foot on brake, other on the gas, and you use the stall converter to hold RPM without going anywhere.

Thanks... I rarely drive autos, let alone on the strip!

I thought manuals were just for people who cant afford an automatic?

I have never lost to a manual tranny S197 or manual tranny Terminator Cobra.

I find it almost funny how people distinguish persons ability to drive a car by it's mechanical makeup. Keep in mind that there are a few people in this world who do not know how to drive a manual trans. Is a manual more enjoyable to drive or more fun to drive? I have had both manual and auto stangs. I can say one thing. There is nothing worse than ripping up first gear, nailing second, and then missing third gear only to grind the hell out of what some of us call the "Funner-Better" car! I would have loved to get the manual when i got my car but my wife doesnt know how to drive a manual, and i was not about to teach her in the stang! Auto was my choice and have been very happy with it!

Sounds like you need some driving school then...sorry

Automatic and proud of it!! There are reasons some of us drive Automatics. Main one is it's the wife's car and she does not know how to drive a stick shift. Next reason is I hate driving sticks drove nothing but stick most of my life and I hate it, and since i am disabled with bad shoulders and knees it is not fun and would prevent me from being able to even drive. There is nothing wrong with an automatic in this car or any other.
