Default Mustang "computer" problems

Hey guys,

I drive an '04 Mustang, V6 2dr Coupe and according to Ford the "Computer" that controls the power output and the emissions just died. The car stalled 4 times before it basically gave up. Now when I start is it vibrates showing the "check engine" light and then just stalls again. It's sitting at the dealership and is under warranty... so that's the good thing.

I just wanted to know, firstly, what part is this exactly? secondly, how does it die out like that?

Thanks!
