Welcome!!! I'll stay away from the 86-88 models. The stock '86-'88 HO engine from a Mustang has a speed-density computer setup. It's good for inferring relative air intake, but it's inflexible as far as adding high performance components, such as a healthier camshaft. The best you can do with speed density is a bigger throttle body and a K&N air filter, maybe the rear axle gear, and that's it. Mass air was used on 5.0 Mustangs from 1989-1995 , and it has a more accurate way to measure airflow (meaning better response and performance). In addition, the mass air computer is a "learning" computer, which means you can add a new component, and within a minute of starting up the car, the computer will automatically recalibrate itself around that item. As far as horsepower and mass air: the wallet's the limit!

I would go for a 94 or 95. Thats the last years of the 5.0. That will probally be the best. They are pretty cheap too.

Welcome to the forums!!! I had a 89' lx with 5.0 and 5 speed, it was a great car put lots of miles on it and had no major problems. Good luck with your search!!!

94 conv. is the slowest year mustang is it not? and a camaro with a 350 doesnt say much, if its a ls1 then thats a different story. but then you'd be bs
