Goal: To install the turbocharged 2.3 motor, trans and rearend from an 87 or 88 Turbo Tbird into my 89 Must LX convertible. Questions: Many! I love my ragtop but it's a dog! With 130k it's probably generating about 75 HP. I'd like to locate a Turbo Tbird (or other?) rebuild the motor to stock specs and drop it into my ragtop. Are the internals the same or higher compression, hotter cam in the Bird? Motor mounts? Bellhousing - can I use my 5-speed or do I have to use the Bird's? Rearend - is it the same width? I heard they have ABS rear discs - does the EEC IV computer control the brakes too? Would I need the wiring harness out of the Bird? Do the turbo 2.3's take regular or preimium gas? Anyone know of any good articles or books concerning this swap? The Mustang is my commute car and I really enjoy the good gas mileage, however, I need more guts. Lots of questions. I've been a car guy for 40 years. I've got the resources, I just need some pointers and need to <IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">get steered in the right direction from someone who's done this swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
