View Full Version : What are cams? Slteath 04-24-2003, 01:04 AM im trying to learn as much as i can about these engines so if someone can explain cams to me itd be much appreciated jeep45238 04-24-2003, 03:00 AM Cams are basically sticks inside of the engine (or on top, depending on set up) that moves the valves in and out. By getting cams, you change when the open and close, and by how much. Slteath 04-24-2003, 06:12 PM thanx for the info. how do people improve their cams? and is that a good mod for a 00gt? stanglover 04-25-2003, 09:11 PM lt depends on how you'll use the Mustang. People improve their cams by getting a higher duration/lift cam. lf your car is for the street, don't go higher than 260-265 degrees of duration. jeep45238 04-27-2003, 04:14 AM Translation (since you probably have no clue what he's saying): Look for street or street/strip cams. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine-cam.htm That is a SOHC (single overhead cam) set up. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/camshaft.htm This'll help you see what he's talking about in more detail. |
