i replaced my distributor on my 95 mustang 5.0 , i put the new one in EXACTLY like i did the old one, it looked identical to the old one too, i did not move any plug wires so that is not the problem, and i tried timing it, rotating it in both directions and the rough idle never went away completely, it got better and worse but not gone. what could i be doing wrong? (new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and now distributor) it was all running flawlessly before, i changed it because sometimes it would die, and sometimes wouldnt start and have no fire from the coil, but i could go back later, not touch anything and it would start just fine, and im tracing that problem and came up with a new problem, the rough idle

I'd say you need to bring engine to TDC and restab the dizzy. That's really the only way to be sure it's right.

I would check the ignition wires and make sure they are i the right fireing order. I know a lady that worked at my store and she had some mexicans in the carwash next door change her spark plug wires and it didnt run right like what you are saying and it turned out they mixed up some wires.
