My buddy just picked up a 97 cobra with 5X,XXX original miles on it for 11 grand. I think he got a killer deal, he thinks he could have got it for less but thats not the point. As we speak he should be putting his DR on the car from his built 96 gt he had and we will probably be taking the car to the track this weekend if the weather holds up. My question is a completely bone stock 97 cobra with DRs should run about what? He is a pretty good driver and has good launches, usually 1.8-1.9 60' times. I want to bet him because he says that the car will probably be in the mid 14s, and I think if he gets a good launch he could get high 13s or at least a 14 flat. What should a decent time for a 97 be with a good driver and some DRs?

its possible to get into high 13's but most are around 14.0 14.1 range, hell prob just need a few runs to get use to his new car.. but if your sure about his consistent 1.8-1.9 60 ft, he should be able too

I am positive about the 60' times, every slip he has brought home from the track since he started modding his 96 has been at most a 1.9. That **** launches his cars hard, but he does it well.

A good driver and traction in a stock 97 Cobra shouldn't have any problems getting into the 13's.  Some people do it on street tires.  Putting my bench racing hat on.....I'd say 13.7 or 13.8.

Really? All the 96-98 cobras I have been looking at are at least 11K with twice the miles and no where near as good condition. Any other opinions for the times? If I can get enough people to positively confirm my thoughts then I'll bet him 100 bucks he hits 13s.

Not sure what market you're in, but I would say you did the equivalent of raping someone !  I sold mine back in March for $8400 with 79k.

I know this might be a little off my original topic but, people say an aluminum flywheel lets the engine rev easier because of the reduced weight and rotational mass and what not, but would an aluminum flywheel contribute to some lower ETs if a person is interested in building the fastest possible NA cobra without actually craking open the engine? i.e. gears, flywheel, full exhaust.

Most 96-98 cobras i see run mid to high 13s, to be stuck in the 14s probably means someones not a good driver

Yea but he won't have the 4.10s, which are a big help. And uberstang, his 96gt was just barley out of the 12s but he gets good launches all the time and is one of the better drivers I know. He says that the cobra feels only a little faster than the 96 did stock. I love the car, it is awsome, could defineatly use a little more umph dow low(gears) but on the highway the car is an absolute animal. He still says it feels slow, I guess we'll find out friday. Anybody else have any comments on the flywheel question?

what is done to the 96 gt, those are fast times for a non-pI 2v, because a stock 97 cobra to a stock 96 gt feels no where close

His 96 had ported ARF 185s, pretty wicked cams, a ported intake to match the heads, gears, full exhaust, and I'm positive he did the ignition and fuel upgrades to handle all that extra combustion. The car was pretty sick, he just sold it for 7500 to some kid who wanted to get into drag racing. His father said that on the first pass down the track he put it into the wall hard and ****ed the whole engine and front end up.
Come to think of it, I don't think they were the AFRs, I'm not really sure what heads he had.

I took my bone stock 98 with 102,000 miles and bald street tires to a 2.0 60' 13.7@102. I've got the slip to prove it

Cool, we are going tommorrow night and he still thinks even if drieves the balls off the car he will be stranded in the mid 14s. I'm gunna bet that he hits at least high 13s. He has been practicing his launches in a parking lot and they look really good, almost better than the launches he used to get with the 96.

Stock I ran a 13.79 @102 in mine, set of Nitto Dr's and knocked it to a 13.43, with 4.30's got it down to a 13.19.  For the last time the car also had pullies, an O/R X pipe, Flowmasters, AFM PowerPipe and Mass Air.  Should run high 12's on motor easily with a little bit of suspension...on a 150 shot this summer I made 2 passes w/a bad 4th gear ran 12.2 @ 118.  Will post more times after I have the suspension on....going with Wolfe Racecraft rear suspension kit, QA1 Adjustable rears.

Well since it decided to snow in new jersey for only about 2 hours and get the track nice and wet we have to wait for another day. Anybody know a good day to go during the week to englishtown NJ?
