Why do you think the Mustang has made it through the hard times and the Camaro was canned?

Camaro in it's final years was a lumbering monster in terms of body styling and handling. It had a long overhang up front that was difficult to guage distances with, was slower in the slalom from the factory and the V6 was outdated and slow. If you look at the Mustang I believe 60-70% of sales are the V6. Plus there was a bit of a wash in the Brand-name recognition. Pontiac Firebird/Chevy Camaro. Same car different badges.

While I think Camaro has/had a lot of potential, they stuck with the old school thinking of 'if you build it, they will buy it' mentality. The same thing that has been killing GM for years (Chevy SS Truck, Pontiac GTO 04-05, Buick LaCrosse, etc.) They didn't listen to their buyers that wanted a more nimble stylish car that would stand out in a crowd or be easily recognized in a parking lot. Granted the Camaro does stand out...but IMHO, it looks like a monstrous spaceship. I'm sure the Mustang has similar dimensions, but it wears it's size more gracefully (stylish).

In GM's defense, the Ford Thunderbird was a flop and so was the Dodge Prowler...build it, they'll buy it mentality with no real definition of what the car is or its intended market audience. Just my two cents.

For all those that are ready to jump down my throat, he asked an opinion. Many similar opinions = a consensus= consensus dictates action = camaro died...obviously it's more than just me that feels this way so don't make a bigger deal out of my post that what it is. a single opinion.

Also the factory that the camaro/firebird was being built in at canada got torn down. they legally cant make another camaro or firebird until 2007. but yeah hes right above me, the sales also killed off these cars. even tho the mustang v6 was 10hp less and the gt was a good 45 hp less than the camaro/firebird, the styling, ride quality, and price made the mustang outsell the camaro. I heard that for every 3 mustangs being sold, there was one camaro being sold.

I think it was for every 3 being sold it was one either Firebird/Camaro. I don't have the stats but mustang outsold the Camaro/Firebird combined 3-1...You would think they (GM) would've woken up. That's okay, when they bring it back it will be a much better car I'm sure (hope) and motivate me to buy a new mustang

I dont think anyone will jump down your throat. Seems that there is mutual respect between the two makes. I owned a 91 Firebird with a performanced suspension installed from the factory. It was more fun to whip around corners as the 305 V-8 was essentially a dawg! Is it true the 2005 Mustang only came out in a V-8 version?

mmm...nope. And the V6 still leads the way in sales between the two engines. The GT only comes with a V8 that might be your confusion. They used to have GT and non-GT V8 back in the 80's and early 90's (i believe) but as of '94 GT is V8 only.

That does make sense. When I was a junior in high school my neighbor let me drive in brand new 5.0 to homecoming and to the prom! What a sweeeeeet car and it was convertible to boot!! I did find out at that time, even if you have the car in nuetral, it won't start unless you have the clutch in.... hmmmm Boy did I feel like a dork in front of my date!

the camaro/firebird/and trans are all the same car just a lil bit diff looking that is it. and for the money to what you get a mustang was a lot better than all 3 of them. and mustangs look a hell of a lot better, but i will say i did like the 2002 ss camaro
