Please forgive the obvious, but I am a little confused by what I've read here and on the various sites selling the CDC Chin Spoiler for the V6. Can I order it "raw" ($225)? In other words, doesn't it already come in a flat or matte black finish (like the rocker panels) when it's unpainted?? Or do I have to actually get it painted black/textured black ($265 or more)??
Next question - cheapest and best place to buy it?
You can get it unpainted. i dont think you can actually get one painted, you have to take it someplace yourself. i believe textured or matte black is the "colored" option. The cheaper price for all parts is usually unpainted, like in this case. I have no personal experience, but that's what I've seen and heard.
The Unpainted comes the color of the plastic which is ugly brown. A painted one is painted black with a slight texture. It comes out looking like your mirrors. 225 for unpainted, 270 for painted.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Is buying it unpainted and then painting it myself an option at all? Anyone taken that route? Or better to have the pros do the painting?
Get a pro to paint it. IMO, the black would not look good on a Blue Mustang. Buy the unpainted one, take it to a good shop, do the install yourself (make sure you follow the directions) and post some pics of it. I love the painted ones, but I like the way mine follows the retro theme I got going on.

First off, GORGEOUS car!! Grabber Orange was in a close fight with Vista Blue when I was shopping around, but Blue won out as you can see. Not sure I agree on the black not working with the blue though - check out any of the old Mach 1's in blue - a lot of accents in black and they even used it on the 04 Mach 1's. Considering my black stripes, top and rocker panels, I think the chin spoiler in black will fit in nicely while giving a bit of that retro look as well.
I'll definitely have the pros do it though. The more I think about it - why spend all that money and then screw it up trying to paint it yourself if you've never done it before. Now I just have to come up with the extra $$ for painting!
Maybe black would look OK if you have black stripes. Haven't seen a Vista Blue with Black stripes yet. Post some pics of it. I picked my chin spoiler up at the Mustangs Unbridled show in Louisville, KY back in May. CDC had a trailer full of accessories for the S197. It was pre-painted and they installed it while I walked around the show. Cost me $280 for the chin spoiler (installed) and the hood pin appearance kit directly from CDC. They left my car sitting in front of the trailer while I walked around the show. It was like I had my car in the show for free. The registration was $50 and I would never pay that much to show it. Here's a pic of them installing it at the show:
