I am thinking of going with 4.10 gears but I have some questions. My main concern is I do a lot of freeway driving (probably 3k miles a month or so) and I want to know how much of a difference the gears make on your gas mileage and engine wear. This car is my daily driver as well. Any ideas?

at 70 mph mine is at 2400 rpm's. did not notice any significant difference in mpg's. and far as engine wear, i think cruising at 2400 rpm's is pretty dam safe on the engine.

Im running the 87 octane tune anyway so 2mpg isnt much money anyway. I guess I will just have to do it then when summer comes around. That would probably be the biggest problem is winter driving
So I wouldnt see too much of a drop when driving at like 80mph on the freeway?
I doubt you'd see much, you shouldn't be getting all that great of mileage at 80 anyway. Keep it under 70 and you'll see a nice increase in mpg.

Up until I left for Korea, 85% of my driving was hwy and I still averaged 22-23 mpg. But my mileage will proly go down a bit when I move to phoenix next year. But with me doing so much city driving maybe I'll go 4.30s to hold me over till I get blown or sprayed.

And remember although you will be using higher rpm, the engine has more mechanical advantage which means you won't need to step on the throttle as much when going up a hill

I don't see why everyone says 4.10s kill top end accel. I can't speak for a auto, but my manual wth 4.10s pulls strongly through 130. I'm sure it will hit 145-150, I'm just scared to go that extra mile even though 130 is already almost twice the highest legal speed limit anywhere in the U.S.

top speed is what im worried about too. lol not that i drive all that fast i hit 150 once. most my driving is city and accel. is really want i want. i also just want to be able to hit 150 again if i feel like it.

+1 I say this as often as possible, everytime I see a new 4.10 thread.....which is a lot.
I live in Germany and drive on German autobahns with 4.10 gears. I have nearly 20,000 miles on my 4.10s. I break 100 mph all the time. Top end is only killed in the sense that you have to shift from 4th gear into 5th gear sooner (which is at about 120 mph for me). HOWEVER....the extra gearing from the 4.10s make that steep 0.68 5th gear pull better than before.
I've also buried the speedometer several times.

what about with the auto? I notice that when racing or just speeding in general once it gets to about 80-90 it kinda sits at 4k and gradually (more like slowly lol) builds up speed and this is with the OD off..with it on it's worse.Took it up to 140 once but it kinda took forever...120 is just about how fast I could get it up to because of lack of road.
stock auto for now, adding a CAI/tune later on and possibly 4.10s with all the reading I have been doing so far on that gear lol.
