After aquiring an 88 LX hatchback and am in the process of trying to fix a problem with the instrument panel problem but do not know how to remove the speedo cable from the panel. Was hoping someone could give some help to a newb to Mustangs.

They're made to come off with your bare hands, you just squeeze the plastic clip and wiggle the cable until it comes off.

What 5.0 bird said. I havetaken mine off twice and I just sqeeze the plastic and pull it off. Mine usually made apopping sound too, like when you open a bottle of wine...

Whats wrong with your speedo?? 5.0Bird is correct.

I had a problem that sometimes my speedo would stay at 0 and not move for a while then all of a suden jump up.

I had my cluster apart to mess around a bit and found out the little peg that holds the speedo needle at 0 was sticky. I cleaned it off and never had this problem again...

Ford stopped using the screw on speedometer connector in 68 or thereabouts.
