If it's a stock 351 it'd be fine, if you start putting power through it, you'll either want to beef up the T5 or get a beefier trans.

G-Force sells a kit that will replace a lot of the major components of a T5 to bring it to around a 600hp rating. TKo 500 and 600's are another option, T56 etc. There are certainly more than that, if you wanted a really mad mofo of a trans you could get a Jerico, but you'll pay through the nose for one.

wats another good 4-6 speed trans that would handle that motor with some mods? (not too expensive, possibly a rebuildable used one)

Yeah, toploader 4sp is a bolt-in, and it's about as indestructible as they come. Otherwise, a GeForce T5 is about the only thing that fits in 'easily', but even that requires a conversion kit. A TKO would be a great tranny, but you have to either modify the drivetrain hump (ie. BFH mod) to clear the square top of the tranny, or you have to get a special drop crossmember which can possibly screw up pinion angle.

If you don't wanta toploader, the GeForce T5 is IMO the way to go. Lighter than a TKO, less modification required to the car, and it should hold fine against a beefed up 351.

IMO, the world class T5 seems to get a bad rap. Of course you are going to get the appearance of a lot of failures in a transmission as widely used as this one. The only problem I ever had with one was breaking an internal part during a hard shift. An aftermarket shifter with positive stops has taken care of that. FWIW, mine lived quite happily behind a 351W that dyno'd 394 ft-lb at the rear wheel.

Good luck!

i have a 351 with a t-5, but we built it up with performance parts

few things, you will either need an adapter plate to use stock bell housing(which i dont recomend my clutch was so hard it gave me leg cramps) or use a 85-93 t5 bell housing and get a hydrolic clutch kit(very recomend) you will also need a transmission mount bracket, i got the cool looking tubular one, but it interfers with the exhaustcant easlily run long tubes with it! so be careful there

there are 2 important things to consider.
#1 get a world class t5
#2 dont let people tell you it is strong enough, get a g force built t5 or one rated over 600 hp

this is the trick everyone knows transmissions are not rated for torque and thats what realy kills them! !

my 351 puts out only 332 hp but almost 350 tq stock t5's are rated to 300-320 hp and an equal amount of torque but when you are near their limits then your gonna kill it pretty quick!

the benefits to a t5 are, 5th gear of course!
smoother and easier thajn older 3/4 speeds
when building it you can choose your prefered gear ratio! (based on gears you choose to install )
cons

expensive 1100+ for a 600+ hp t5
need adapter plate and mount 250-300.00
or hydrolic and bracket 525-550
new shifter (stock t5 sits 2 far away and you can never get it to 3rd or 5th without leaning forward)
needs new tail shaft 20-90 bucks depending on new or used
usually needs to shorten drive shaft 150-300 depending on shortened or go with new aluminum

i have 1125 in my conversion and still will spend another 800 for the hydrolic set up
150 2 t5 trans (1w/c 1 n-w/c)
600.00 rebuild kit, new imput shaft and 1-4 gears and everything else for real rebuild
125 trans mount
120 adapter plate
130 new shifter

300 still need shorter drive shaft(aluminum from street or track)
420 hydrolic clutch conversion

is it worth it yes and no,
yes becuse it is 100& new internals not just rebuilt with new synchros and bearings and it is what i want
no becuse it really will end up costing me 2000.00 for it perfect

Is this for someone to do it for you? It should cost half if you do it yourself.
