My carb failed the CA Smog, and my Holley carb has been rebuilt to many times, and to boot it fails every smog test, so the mech said let's just replace it.  Well now he's having a hard time finding a holley carb.  Holley told him that they don't rebuiled them anymore, they just sale the rebuilt kits.  I don't want to put the VV in there cause we all know that was a bad carb.  It was suggested to me to use a Motorcraft 2150, but I'm told that my not be appv by the State of CA.

The guy at Holley told me that my came w/a VV 2700 and that I would need a motorcraft 2700, but there is no such carb.

The state of ca smog dept has been of no help on this question, they tell me the ppl that sell and install the carbs should know.

I did find one holley carb, but there asking $490 what a joke.  I think they jack the price up since the state ref you to this 800#.

Thanks for your help
Vickie

A good VV carb is actually very good.  They just start sucking when they wear out.

You should be able to get a waiver if there is no replacements made anymore...or sell me the car and I'll have it emission legal in no time.

didnt they come with 2 bbl autolites anyways?

can you do a 4bbl swap and use a smog legal holley 600 (or maybe the 570 street avengers are smog legal?)

Getting any type of answer has been a challege.  As to what I can put in my car.  The mech says only the Holley or VV.  A guy at work told me as well would be good if I could put a 4bbl too, but said I would have to chg a lot of other stuff as well?  I'm staring to get into grounds that I don't know.  I know my car, but this has been such an issue over the last 22 yrs that i've had it.

I bet you would like my car, ppl wanted my car b4 I even had it repainted, and in a week or so, the inside will be redone.  Hope the CA sun doesn't get to it again.  I have a portable carport, that should help, until someday I can move and have a garage for it again.

FYI the only thing you would have to change to use a 4 barrel carb is the carb itself and the intake. if you stuck with a small vacuum secondaries 4bbl like a 570-600 cfm you will retain great gas milage when your puttzing around town because your only running on the front 2 barrels, but when you kick it in the ass the back two barrels open and you gain alot more power.

upon futher investigation the holley site says even their C.A.R.B. legal (california smog) 4bbl's are only legal in cali for cars that originally had a 4bbl as factory equip or an option for the car. the II's only came with 2bb's, and their 350 and 500 cfm 2bbl's do not say they are carb legal.

you may be stuck with the factory autolite.

are they looking at whats onder your hood or are they just sniffing your exhaust? if they are just sniffing, you should be able to use a CARB legal 4bbl even though your car was never equiped with one.

My car is under a TEST ONLY, so it also has a visual.   At this point I rebuild my holley carb yet again, for the 4-5 time ) : or go was a VV 2700.  I just recall I had a problems abt 20 yrs ago w/a 2700.

How can I found out what year motor is in my car.  I was reading if the motor is say 74-76, I might be able to have this smog BS waved.   But I will have to wait until Jan/2008 to try for the waver.

A referee should be calling me Mon/Tues I hope he has the answers I need.

Thanks
Vickie
