Bulllit noo these are the official specs. I intend to test it I still have a little more breaking in on the engine only have 3000 miles on it. I intend to put it to the test in the near future . I hope i can run at the specs. So far the engine is running like a purring tiger. I ve mastered the break in. I drove it easy and also did short spurts of horses just enough where its not a thrash and cause any damage. I find that break in is vital for later. Ive learned that racing when with a new engine that hasnt been totally seated yet can be harmful later. breaking a engine in at varied speeds makes for a good performance engine all around. Of course others have diffferent opinions on this i go by my experience which is about 33 years.. What are ur numbers btw

Check your facts on the handling. Motor Trend tested the SGT and the Bullitt. The Shelby did .97g on the skidpad and .76g in the figure 8. The Bullitt did .87g on the skidpad and .52g on the figure 8. That is a huge difference in handling. The bullitt is a nice car but it doesnt handle anything like a SGT. Acceleration is very similiar between the two. In the looks department I think most would agree the Shelby wins hands down. I get more compliments then I ever thought I would. If you want something more subdued in the looks department and still has that straight line performance grab up a Bullitt, its still a great car at a more attractive price.
Nice car u have.. I APPROVE !!! One thing the others dont say is the handling comparison , Sure the buillit and gt500 have more power an are faster in the straight. But in the curves Shelby gt destroys both . I am amazed how nice and flat my shlby is in the turns, As far as the ride i love to feel the road and this car diffently does that. It aint a floating cloud lol.

Hum... The Bullitt Package for a $3000 price tag or the Shelby GT package for that same $3000 PLUS an additional $7500
Comparable power improvements Comparable suspension improvements Much better cold air intake on the Bullitt Most of all MUCH better gears 3.73/1 in the Bullitt Straight line or in the corners, The Bullitt will flat spank the Shelby GT!
Bunch of RICE looking scoops, stripes and cheap hood pins and redundant gauges glued to the dash on the SGT Very clean, stealthy Bling and Rice free look and much better seats in the Bullitt
The Bullitt package 54B – Bullitt Package $2879/$3310 Bullitt Total $2879/$3310
The Shelby GT package GT Upfitters Package $2140 Shelby GT Package $7390 Gas Guzzler Tax $1000 WTF is that? Shelby GT Total $10530
This looks like a no brainer for me. Pay $7500 for the Shelby name and a bunch of less than tasteful bling, or pocket that $7500 and drive a very stealthy factory Mustang that will spank and stock Mustang GT or Mustang Shelby GT.
How’s that for an opinion?
I would like to apologise in advance for what i have to say, I cant resist. Please this isnt meant to be for the mature and respctful user that posted here.
Black do you allways talk out your a--hole?. You comment about the bullit slapping a selby GT in handling is absolute nonsense. First of all living in texas where a left and right turn at the light is all u have in curves dont qualify as terrain for road racing. Where you live its flat and straight. Lets have a real road racee on mulholand drive in S california which has lots of curves. I've lived all my life here and have 32 years of hard core road racing and im damm good. Lets see you get slapped when i leave your pathetic brain in the dust. You will end up slapping your self. The Shelby GT will kill your GT500 and also the bullet in a out right road race with lots of sharp curves. The suspension is not a slight modification it considered a major mod and carrol designed the suspension to meet ford road racing specs.Man talk about being retarded you take it.

Thanks for all this great input. Specially from the ones that actually have driven both...... I love my car. I've had many many american muscle cars over the years, Next to the Vette , the Shelby Mustang, now that Ford has finally got the styling right...Is a sharp looking car I want a sports car that not only turns heads but PERFORMS. Not just a straight line but in the curves. I consider my current C6 a "gentlemans GT" In that its an automatic. The paddle shift is cool but i'm old school prefer a stick.. The Heads Up Display (not offered on a stang) is awesome but an unnecessary frill. My next sports car will be more spartan interiorwise. Just more stuff to break down. Who NEEDS heated seats??? What I'm getting at is "less is more" Mmy car will put up skidpad & acceleration numbers comparable & exceeding that of a Shelby GT 500. So why change? I miss shifting What I know & am learning about Vettes, Mustangs & the upcoming Camaro..My ideal car would be .. a Corvette Z06..drop dead gorgeous & best stats. The price factor rules out a car costing $50k plus ( which would aso include the GT500)
After further review & careful analyiss, the perfect Mustang FOR ME, would be a Shelby GT / SC Supercharger stripe delete rear spoiler add Hertz style hood ( i know, I know non functional but cool looking. I like the rear side slots for brake cooling too) Add an aftermarket 6 speed tranny ( last two vettes i had were 6 spd & turn around 1300 rpm at 80 mph.. the 5 spd mustang in shlby OR bullit cant offer that kinda mileage) the above mods -6 spd & super charger are not cost effective to arrive at the same performance I already have...
Therin lies my quandry.. I think the Bullitt is really neat but the 3:73 rearend will get me from gas station to gas station qucker. The Shelby GT is approx $6,000 overpriced just becuase of the name...but what a name! resale value is paramount. I'm used to having to avoid speed bumps or cross them diagonally on account of low clearance...Stiff ride is not an issue for me at all I consider it a price we pay for good handling. I may just put mine on the market & look for a bargain ........leaning first toward the Shelby GT then the Bullitt... Although a plain jane C6 Z51 manual tranny with a wide body kit might just be best comprimise.......... Again, I appreciate the input.. I just bought my daughter a 06 'stang v6 It feels pretty nice although the parking brake is in a strange location.
Mike ive driven all the cars you mentioned. You sound like me. My advice is to go with the Shelby GT the handling is amazing IM CONFIDENT you will be blown away at the flat in control handling in the turns. Its night verses day.

Nice run !! Even if i lose in the straight I will still have a big smile on my face. I bet if you ran it in dry hot conditions you would perform better. Logically humid air hurts overall performance i would think. I may be wrong maybe. What is your opinion.

Back at cha!
My odometer just click 14K. I drive the crap out of my Shelby. It is a blast to drive and on the open road or mountain twisty's, I just cant seem to get this smile off my face......
I wish i worked 5 feet from my bed. Cut down on some cost thats for sure.

I hear ya there.
The best i personally have ever gotten was 26 highway and 19 city. The worst was 16 city which about what i average now LOL. But, i don't care. I bought this car fun and not MPG, and so far, it has delivered in every way......
I would guess that the bullitt's 3.73's you may lose 2-3 mpg highway. There are several here on this forum that have 4.10's and in 5th, you only are 2-300 rpm higher but, with those gears around town its going to get you to pump faster then our 3.55's. But like i say, If you bought your Shelby or Bullitt for Mpg, then your not going to have any fun with it.
......In my opinion ford did an absolutely awful job designing the looks of the bullitt. Way too boring, looks like an ugly v6. SGT FTW.
Dude..did you ever bother to look at the original Bullitt Mustang from the movie "Bullitt"? Ford could not have gotten it any better than they did with the 08 Bullitt as their goal was to capture the true essence of the way the original Bullitt Mustang from the movie looked. That was the entire purpose for making it "drabbed" down which is what gives it "look" value. The Bullitt is merely the flip side of the "looks" coin from the Shelby GT but both are equal cars when it comes to ownership of one and looks.
Man, you missed the point of the Bullitt's design completely.
And BTW..I own a 2007 Shelby GT so I am certainly not prejudiced in my view.
A Bullitt has what few cars have. It comes with an aura. I'm an engineer by profession and I am definitely not given over to 1970's hippie superstitions, but the Bullitt is exactly what I always wanted in a car. Ford provided a car custom designed exactly for me and people like me, only they did a better job than we would have done had we been given a team of designers and engineers at our disposal. I thought the Bullitt was going to be about a paint job and a couple of tack on aluminum bits. I walked past it in the lot and almost didn't give it a second glance.
Then I got to the front of the car and noticed the wheels looked awfully good. Then I noticed something else. This car meant business. There wasn't anything tacked on to it. In fact, anything useless was stripped away. There was nothing left but the essence of a what a Mustang is really all about. A lean car, not overly small, not overly low, with room for an engine up to the job of the business of driving. No flash necessary. This car doesn't brag, it just pulls you in.
We got in. The aura was stronger now. The interior was great. It was dark. The seats were special. I got back out. What did they do to the seats? These aren't the same as the ones in the GT, but that must be some sort of trick. Ford wouldn't put special seats in the car. But they did. I got back in. Yes, that settled it, they did. Then I noticed the shifter. A ball shifter that was in the exact right spot and had exactly the right feel. Now I was wondering. Did Ford put a different gear box in this car? Everything felt right. My wife was in the other seat. She was sort of squeeling with excitement. 15 years of driving Saturns and a 1 ton pickup never felt anything like this. I wanted to find something I didn't like about the car. We started out shopping for a convertible and this was a coup. I made up my mind. I didn't like the dash. It would blind me or distract me or something. But it didn't distract at all. It was part of the aura too. So, big deal, the seats were good and the shifter was fine. I still wanted a convertible. But, no sense in not driving the car. We needed the keys.
I started it. The aura no longer was part of the car, it enveloped me too. The sound was incredible. Not loud, not annoying, just enough to remind you that it was ready when you needed it. I pulled out of the lot and headed down the highway. Wait a minute, I can feel the road. But its not beating me up. Time for some throttle. The car came alive. I passed 3500rpm and I know what the Mustang is all about. It's not a sports car that makes you one with the road. It's not a luxury car that protects you from the road. It's a pony car that let's you escape from all the other people poking around while eating, smoking, talking on the phone, doing anything but driving.
This pony is free! I headed onto a sharp clover leaf ramp. I shifted, I steered, I drove, I tapped the throttle. I double clutched it and down shifted to see what would happen. The aura was complete. I double clutched it again for no reason at all other than to hear the sound. The third time I double clutched it, I traveled back in time. It was 1968 and I was looking for a black Charger. The fourth time I double clutched it, Steve McQueen appeared in the rear view mirror and nodded approval.
I love the Bullitt. I like the stealth. It's exactly the way I want it. The 20 year olds can have the hood scoops and spoilers and plastic. Give me a set of 3.73's, a taught but not harsh suspension, a fine gear box, a perfect shifter, nice seats, and a great sound any day. The Bullitt can sneak up on poking BMW's intent on impeding progress while the owners play with their hair or fiddle with their phone. The Bullitt doesn't attract their attention at all, until you drop it in third and slip in front of them to the freedom you deserve. There's nothing they can do about it either but go back to blocking the progress of other drivers.
This is what the car means to me. It's up to you to figure out what you want. Ford makes a Mustang for all of us. You can get a V-6 convertible, you can get a Bullitt, you can get a Supercharged GT500.
I'm curious about another Bullitt, to sit in the garage for special occasions, maybe add a supercharger, wider tires, the stiffer suspension kit.

Houstons_Problem, My sentiments too! I ended up liking my Bullitt so much that I recently traded my GT500. The ride, the clutch, the shifter and the stealth-look all suit me better.
If you are looking to buy one,PM me as there are a few in my area available at or below sticker with different options and I could point you in the right direction.

I just got my 2008 Bullitt and am surprised how much I like it. I got it as a daily driver, but it's such a hoot I've got to find a way to autocross it.
