Just wanted to stop in and say hello here. I hope this first post isn't too offensive.
I had been shopping for Mustangs since last year. I was mainly looking at GT's at first, but I could never find one that really tripped my trigger. Here at the end of February, I went through a local Ford dealer's lot and saw what appeared to be a plain-jane V6 Mustang. I walked around the car, and lo and behold it was a Bullit! Man, you coulda knocked me over with a feather. I really liked the understated looks and the lack of a rear spoiler. I looked at the sticker, and there was a $1500 addendum on the car. I emailed the internet guys and they told me it was to cover the $1500 Mustang GT rebate going on. That pissed me off!!! I'm not paying full sticker plus tax for ANY car.
On a Saturday, I went to another dealership where I knew one of the salesmen. He told me that Ford just issued a fatter rebate on the Shelby's. After diddling around for about 45 minutes I was driving off in my new Shelby GT.
Here's the bottom line: No one is even going to give you a second look in a Bullit. I get nothing but people staring at this car no matter where I go. The Shelby is where it's at. Like it or not. I got mine for $7000 off sticker. Now, if you could get a Bullit for like $5000 off sticker, that might be a cool deal, but it still looks no cooler than a V6 Mustang, and actually some of the V6 Stangs look cooler than the Bullit.
I do like both cars, but be truthful with yourself. The main reason we buy these cars is for pride of ownership and getting attention. The Shelby gets all the attention.

Personally,
I bought mine for the whole "Package". Everything i would have done and was planning on doing to an Gt i had at the time. But this was a Shelby.......
The attention part i did not think about until i noticed everybody was wanting to take pictures and cruise along with me. This car is a people magnet! The Bullit is a nice car for sure. I can honestly say though, If this Bullit had been out before my Shelby ever appeared, It would have been a different story because "Bullitt" the movie is what got me into mustangs when i saw it at a theater with my sinced departed father when it first came out. I dreamed about that car. But the cars prior to 05 did nothing for me. Sorry guy's but, no appeal. But this reto look from 05 and up is the best looking mustang since the original Bullitt mustang or mustangs in general of the late 60's. It's basically up to personal preference, but if you like both or mustangs in general, I dont think you can go wrong eithier way. Its what you want, its what you payed for, its what you will enjoy for maybe the rest of your life or until life changes. But enjoy just the same.....................
Well i just thought id say this.... I love my NEW BULLITT. I have driven both cars and i was a preVious owner of 01 BULLITT and a 06 GT. I also have a 66 coupe and a 65 fastback 289 hipo... So obviously i LOVE mustangs and respect them all... But when it comes down to it who cares what anyone says when your looking to buy a car, go with ur gut tells ya and get what u want bc no matter what u get being a bullitt or shelby you can still make it into the car you want it to be and it will still be a shelby or a BULLITT... I love the sleeper looks of my BULLITT and im not one who needs a flashy ride... i think both cars are amazing so get what YOU want!

I'll never understand why people let other people's personal opinions bother them... I could maybe understand if you designed the car and someone says it sucks or it's overpriced, but even then, my response would be, "OK, don't buy it".
It's all about personal taste; drive both models and buy the one that's best for you. Once you do that, why would it matter how anyone feels.
My cost for the 2008 Bullitt $30893.98 My cost for the 2007 Shelby GT $48985.00
First of all, as a GT500 owner, you should understand that dealer markups don't mean anything. GT500's are not selling for the 15k over that their sticker carries. I audit Ford dealers and can tell you the prices that these vehicles are going for are alot closer then 18K!. I know you knew you were using fuzzy math when you wrote that, if you didn't then you are extremely ignorant or stupid. Dealers are selling '07 SGT's for under cost which is just under 37k. Less Fords current $3500 cash back and you can get a SGT for 33k before taxes and fees, I've seen less. The Bullits are going for about 30k before taxes and fees. So the difference is a few grand. After that its personal opinion.
I myself like the SGT. I could do without the hood scoop and strips but I love the back end. The double edged tips, spoiler delete and CA Special style rear valance look awesome. I like the look of the Bullit alot but don't think I could put up with the "metal turned" dash day in day out. I've driven both cars and believe that power is to close to call. Handle definetly has to go to the Shelby. The Bullit handles well but the Shelby is in a whole new league. It's possibly the best handling Mustang Fords produced, maybe the '00 R has an edge. When it comes to value, anything with the Shelby name is going to be worth more in the long run.
Either way they are both great cars...

That would explain why this dealership who still has a 2007 Shelby GT in their showroom with this $48,000 ADM sticker on it and won’t budge on the price yet will sell me a Bullitt at $1000 over Invoice? Not!
When I drive in to their dealership in a 2008 GT500 and ask them if they will sell their Shelby GT for MSRP and they refuse to budge off of their $48,000 ADM, it is a pretty sure bet that is indeed their price.
As to your comments about being ignorant or stupid, perhaps that would apply to the dealership pricing these cars or yourself, but I didn’t make those numbers up. This same dealership had a Ford GT with a $50,000 ADM sitting in their showroom for over two and a half years.
You might think you know it all but you missed the boat on this one. If you were doing more than woofing **** I would give you the dealerships phone number and you could call them yourself. My numbers are true and actual numbers for 2 different cars at the same Ford dealership still today!

Nicely put. I always love when someone posts some B.S. numbers to prove a point and gets shut down.
As for you marshallmadman, have you got some real numbers from a real verifiable dealership to actually refute what I said? I didn’t think so, you might want to sit back and drink some more Kool-Aid.

HaHa! If that dealer really wants that much money for a Shelby GT then they are out to lunch. You are also out to lunch if you were dumb enough to assume that that is the going rate. I've done tax/audit work for about twenty dealers over the last three months and have never seen **** like that. There is a reason why Ford is offering a 3.5K cashback rebate. They don't do that on vehicle's going for more then MSRP!
P.S. Give me the number for that dealer. I have a feeling its going to be a '08 SGT Vert or a SGT CA Edition and not a SGT coupe.
Yeah wouldn’t that fit right along with the rest of your Bull$hit. Not!
It is a 2007 SGT, you got caught with your foot in your mouth calling me a liar or idiot when ultimately you are a big-mouthed blowhard who doesn’t quite know as much as you think you do.
If you actually do work so closely with so many Ford dealers, you can find this car with its VIN. I doubt you do, but if you indeed do you can locate this car now. This method allows you to prove you were not overstating your connections with Ford dealers and prove you don’t know everything there is to know about SGT pricing all at the same time. Give them a call; I’ll wait for your public apology posted here.

You finally backed your story up!! You're cool with me now. I was fixin to post a pic of my sticker to show how much they are in the real world. I can't believe these tools marked this up 10000 bucks. They'll be waiting a long time for someone that foolish.
Mine was $40,985 w/the package and the gas guzzler tax. I paid $34,788 plus tax for it. If you recall, I originally went looking for a Bullitt, but since they wouldn't budge on the $32,500 sticker it made the SGT very attractive at the price I paid for it.
Enough with the haterizin', we all love Mustangs. As far as Kool Aid goes, I only drink Sugar Free Kool Aid because I am old enough to have owned more variations of Mustangs than you can shake a stick at.
You have skid pad performance information for the SGT and the Bullitt? Is there a big distinction? Can you see that skid pad performance distinction in the real world? I guarantee you can see the distinction with the lower 3.73:1 gears.
Hum… Over $7000 extra for the ability to slightly edge out the Bullitt on a skid pad, and still have to put up with a bunch of funny looking stripes and fake scoops and redundant gauges that LOOKS like they belong on the track not the street. Yeah that is definitely worth it.
Why spend $1200 on The Ford Racing Mustang Handling Kit (M-2005-FR3) and have a Bullitt that has identical handling to the inferior SGT when you can get the Shelby package for a mere $7000? After all the Bullitt would still only have much better gears, better seats, better steering wheel, better cold air intake, better tune (better throttle response and higher redline), a much better sounding exhaust, better shifter than the Hurst in the SGT, and most of all a MUCH BETTER looking Mustang that does not look like it just escaped form a race track, and cost $5500 less.
To each his own You are obviously happy with your SGT choice, for similar reasons Ford sells so many GT California Special Packages and V-6 appearance packages.
But flat out BANG for the BUCK it is NOT a better deal than the 2008 Mustang GT Bullitt Package.
GT 500 said: Straight line or in the corners, The Bullitt will flat spank the Shelby GT!
What you been smokin Willis! The Shelby out corners most cars on the skidpad. See the post after yours about the motortrend article.

The Shelby did .97g on the skidpad and .76g in the figure 8. The Bullitt did .87g on the skidpad and .52g on the figure 8.
Real world or not a person just needs to be happy with their choice. I am and I am sure you like your gt500. Others like the bullit and some do not. I made the choice to buy the Shelby name because I like the looks and the pedigree behind the name. Whatever floats your boat as they say.
I did not worry about getting the "bang for the buck" because I have the resources. However I respect the fact that some folks do have to watch the wallet. I certainly did when I was bringing up four kids! Was driving a used ford Aerostar van at that time! Now that the kids are out of the house it was like getting a raise!
